Can't drop root group privileges
Hi all,
I need your insight. I've been testing Dovecot on an AIX 5.2
system. Compiled and running fine. We have some users on an
AIX 5.1 system, so I'm working on installing it there, so we
can do further testing.
I'm using Dovecot 1.0 RC15 with OpenSSL 9.0.7e, configured to use
port 10143 (imap) and 10993 (imaps). The error I'm seeing in the log is:

[PATCH] permanently_set_uid: Don't try restoring gid on Cygwin
Hi,
the below patch solves the same problem for gids as has already been
solved for uids. Windows has no concept of permanently changing the
identity. It's always possible to revert to the original identity.
Thanks,
Corinna

Having problem getting Asterisk to work on CentOS 7
Some background information.
I have used Debian with Asterisk for several years. Have encountered zero problems.
I am now trying to setup an Asterisk on a CentOS7 box using VMWare Workstation. I am brand new to CentOS and RHEL so I may be missing something obvious.
I am installing CentOS Minimal Install and Asterisk from Source. (I have installed Asterisk from Source on Debian hundreds of

Porting OpenSSH 2.9.9p2 to Dynix V4.4.4
Hello Porters,
I am attempting to compile OpenSSH 2.9.9p2 on a Dynix V4.4.4 host.
I have set USE_PIPES and BROKEN_SAVED_UIDS (the latter because there are
no functions for set{eu,eg}id() that I can find). I configured with
"./configure '--with-libs=-lnsl -lsec'".
Each time I attempt to login, I get this error:
No utmp entry. You must exec "login" from

PATCH allow_zero_gid option
Hey,
Well, that was easy :-) Patch against CVS follows:
Summary:
Created a boolean option allow_zero_gid, when set to yes it will allow
logins from users whose group id is zero. Tested with KMail 3.1.1 on
FreeBSD 4.8. I'm not sure if my method for passing the boolean via the
environment is correct, it looks a little on the ugly side.

execute sieve command - fails to notice script has exited
Hi,
Running dovecot 2.2.27 (c0f36b0) on Debian GNU/Linux stable (version
9.6), I'm trying to use the execute command in a sieve script, with
direct execution (not service socket).
The script is executed, and returns (the process exits), but the
dovecot-lda process seems to not notice, and thinks the script did not
terminate. After sieve_execute_exec_timeout has passed, it sends a

uidswap
All,
Could someone explain the purpose of the uidswap functions with
respect to ssh ( the client ). From what I gathered , ssh installs as
setuid root and swaps ids when reading potential key files that may be read
only by root. Also , I think when binding to a privileged port ssh swaps
id. Is that so? What are the consequnences if you do not install ssh setuid
root? ( As far I as know no uid

openssh for UWIN
I am enclosing a context diff of the changes that I made to get
openssh working on UWIN. UWIN is a UNIX operating system layer
that runs on Win32 systems. For more information on UWIN
go to http://www.research.att.com/sw/tools/uwin/.
I also ran configure using -with-cppflags=-D_BSDCOMP=2. I don't
know where that information would go with the source code.
Let me know if you need more

[PATCH supermin 0/2] helper: Implement device trees.
This two-part patch for supermin implements device trees (for ARM).
The first patch introduces a more rational way to handle command line
arguments in 'supermin-helper'. See the commit message for details.
The old style is still supported for compatibility.
The second patch adds an extra supermin-helper --dtb parameter
specifying a wildcard. A device tree file which matches the

Hacked?
This morning, I noticed in my security email, that my entire /usr/bin
directory had setuid diff's set on them.
I think I've been hacked. So I installed chkrootkit from ports and ran
it. It showed not infected for everything,
except NETSTAT. NETSTAT showed infected...
I ran chkrootkit for another machine (at my office), and it showed not
infected for everything.
Both machines are

test49 Authenticate PLAIN disabled stops pop3s
Unlike test47, test49 refuses to authenticate pop3s

The connection is being made with ssl so it looks like
the plaintext auth preventer is broken.

quota-status returns quota_status_success when email would put user over quota
Hi list,
I am attempting to get quota-status service working, so I can deny email
at the initial smtp dialog instead of generating bounces with lda.
I can't seem to get quota-status to return quota_status_overquota, even
when an email would put an account over quota.
Quota in general works fine:

Inherit Permissions addition
Gentlemen,
I was delighted to read about and test the "inherit permissions" feature of
version 2.0.7 for myself. This is a wonderful addition to Samba; thank you,
David Lee, for your fine work.
After initial testing, it became apparent to me that inheriting the 'group'
permissions on a subfolder within a share without also 'forcing' the group
ownership on the new files

I would be interested in both, if possible: To confirm that it's not
only my machines that exhibit this behaviour given my settings, and to
see what can be achieved with your tuned settings.
Thank you!

imap dump-capability fails Dovecot 1.1.6
Hi Timo,
Dovecot fails to start after upgrading from 1.1.4 to 1.1.6:
Fatal: userdb didn't return a home directory, but mail location used it
(%h): %h/mail:CONTROL=%h/control:INDEX=%h/index
Error: imap dump-capability process returned 89
Fatal: Invalid configuration in /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf
Adding a fake home directory to args in
