public folders grayed out
Hi folks,
I have configured a public folder as described on the
Wiki (more or less; see below), but in TB3 I see the
"Public" folder grayed out. I cannot subscribe. Toggling
the subscriptions flag doesn't help.
What did I miss here? Any helpful comment would be highly
appreciated.
If this is a TB3 problem: Which MUA would you suggest?

Imap notifications in IDLE
Hi,
could you please tell me if there is a way, to make dovecot notify my
mail client of new messages in inbox subfolders?
I'm using fdm to fetch mails into maildir and proper subfolders. So far,
when idleing mozilla gets a notification when new message arrives in
INBOX, but if mail is fetched into other folder I have to click on it to
see if there is a new message. I've checked

Upgrading from 1.2.8 to 2.0.6: INBOX not selectable in Thubderbird (greyed and italic)
I recently upgraded from 1.2.8 to 2.0.6, I am using Maildir, and
Thunderbird is showing the INBOX grayed out and in italics, and does not
show new messages in it (it shows messages previously downloaded). This
occurs when Thunderbird is restarted (if I upgrade dovecot, TB keeps
working fine until I shut it down, and at next startup it greys out the
inbox). All the subfolders of INBOX work

using mbox but, can't create subfolders
Hi,
I'm using mbox format w/ dovecot 1.0b3. I tried moving over my mail from a uw-imap server. Everything works fine except I can't create subfolders. Is there something I'm doing wrong or is this a limitation of dovecot? How can I fix this?
Thanks,

Problems with subfolders in Thunderbird
Dear All
Server:
dovecot-1.0.beta8 (compiled from source)

Client:

Using maildir
Normally (with the current UW-IMAP) I can create a folder
which may contain only messages or only folders.
If I create a folder which will contain only folders,
it is listed in thunderbird in light-grey italics. Subsequently

with mbox format doveadm ignores subfolders of inbox
Hello.
After we switched the format from mbox to mdbox on our dovecot
(version 2.1.9) servers last week, some of our users were missing the
subfolders of their inboxes. So far we thought that with the mbox
format it is not possible to have mail folders containing both
messages and subfolders. Now we know that there is one exception from
this rule: the inbox. With mbox format dovecot

INBOX subfolders not showing up
Hi,
I have a problem with INBOX subfolders and subscriptions which I can't
solve... Maybe somebody has seen this, too...
I can create regular subfolders (not in INBOX) and (un-)subscribe to
them with Thunderbird. If I create subfolders in the INBOX with TB this
seems to work now in v31 (just found this out), but with v24.6 neither
INBOX subfolder creation nor subscriptions worked. When

Break up massive INBOX?
I have inherited a 10+ GB mailbox which dsync converted to maildir very
nicely. But 15GB in tens of thousands of messages is too much in one
INBOX when used in webmail.
I guess it's best to divide the messages into subfolders for date.
Is there a server-side way to safely move messages into new subfolders
so that Dovecot indexes and UIDs won't break? If I write a shell script

Creating IMAP folders/subfolders with Thunderbird
Hi,
I have dovecot-2.2.15 on fedora21 with Thunderbird and having some
difficulty creating subfolders and deleting folders.
Creating subfolders results in a folder at the root with a caret instead
of a slash called folder^subfolder with an entry in .subscriptions with
that name, instead of a new folder under the directory.
I'm also unable to delete any folders. The command from within

Thunderbird IMAP woes
Hi,
I'm a new dovecot user. We've actually just migrated our email system
from Courier-IMAP to Dovecot (2.0 rc5) cause we were choking on IO and
resources, and dovecot's cache and indexing really seems to help, not to
mention the awesome amount of options, tweaks, and extra features, so
far, I'm lovin' it. However, we're having a few issues with Thunderbird

folders are not under INBOX
hi guys,
I hope it's common trouble, but I'm not able to find a solution:
- i'am using courier imap and trying to migrate to the dovecot
- on courier I have all folders as subfolder of Inbox - i.e. Inbox.Sent
but on dovecot the folder Sent is not subfolder of Inbox, but its on the
same level.
Please is there some possibility to have the subfolders the same
behaviour as in courier?

Subfolders of Inbox with LAYOUT=fs
We've just converted to LAYOUT=fs. Some users had subfolders under Inbox,
and for those users some MUAs no longer show those folders.
The directory structure is that the cur, tmp and new folders are in the
'location' directory, but the subfolders are in
$location/INBOX/$foldername.
I am suspicious of this:

Dovecot doesn't seem to report all subfolders to Thunderbird
Hi,
I've recently migrated my emails from a Yahoo account to my own
mailserver on a VPS.
Ever since then, Thunderbird seems to have issues with the mailbox's
directory structure: When I start Thunderbird, it immediately deletes
the local copies of all 3rd-level folders (i.e. subfolders of a
subfolder of a folder in the mailbox root).
Since that didn't happen with the Yahoo account, I

Eliminate legacy INBOX namespace - how?
Hi all,
Our mailstore was converted from a Courier-IMAP system last year, but I
am planning a migration to a shiny new VM, and would really like to
clean things up and do away with the legacy INBOX namespace.
My goal is to simplify IMAP client setup - no special 'INBOX' namespace
needed, they just enter the server info and credentials.
Also important because I will be rolling out

Spliting Folders for Efficiency
Dear Timo,
Would there be any sense in giving Dovecot the option to split folders
into multiple subfolders when they reached a specified size (probably
message count) limit?
Dovecot would monitor folders and when they reached, say, 10,000
messages, silently split the folder on the filesystem to ensure that
access remains fast.
I know that Dovecot scales very well but this would give

No status for INBOX/* in mbox NS (2.1.6)
Maybe it's fixed, but the last "interesting" text in the Changelog was
before 2.1.6.
Most of our users still have mboxes in the classical layout, so you
can't have subfolders and messages in the same folder, *except for the
INBOX*, as it is physically separate.
Someone complained that he saw subfolders in roundcube he couldn't
delete, because they didn't show up in the

printer "Advanced tab" grayed
Hello,
I would like to upload windows printer driver to my Samba through the
printer "Advanced tab" as described in that doc
http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html#id2582657
but this tab is totally grayed. I can imagine it's a permission issue
but I'm not sure at all.
Any idea,
