FC2 POP3/SMTP Configuration
OK, let me try this again. . . .
I'm a newbie to dovecot and a little bit less of a newbie to linux. I
am in the process of moving my server from RH9 to FC2. The only
obstacle remaining is my email. I run dovecot (v0.99.14) POP3 and
sendmail (8.12.11-4.6) with Mozilla (1.4.2 and others), Thunderbird
(1.0.2) and Netscape (7.1 on PC's, etc) mail clients - mostly PC's (W2K,
WXP).

I've updated it... looks like there's a problem with using
/var/spool/mail/user for INBOX and subfolder creation/deletion using
mbox in ~/Mail.
The result is this:
Request: A00099 LIST "" INBOX
Response: * LIST (\NoInferiors) "/"

[Fwd: Re: [Evolution] evo confused when searching message bodies on large folders?]
Is this possibly a problem with dovecot 0.99.10.9?
Maybe it's been fixed in a later release?
Might it be a security issue?
Thanks!

dovecot IMAP misserving problem?
http://togami.com/~warren/archive/2003/evolution-1.4.4-crash.mbox
I suspect that dovecot-0.99.10 is misserving this message in some way
that is confusing some IMAP clients. This behavior causes
evolution-1.4.4 to segfault, and squirrelmail-1.4.1 to be unable to read
the message. The same message served by uw-imapd works works fine in
both evolution and squirrelmail.

Newbie: IE5.5
howdy,
i am very new to WINE and have looked around for some docs on howto get
IE5.5 running, but can't seem to find anything straight foward. i just
installed RH7.2, and am running Ximian GNOME, without a Windows partition.
WINE is apparently installed by default with RH7.2. i tried the simple
'archnid' (solitaire) program and seemed to work ok. however, i have the
IE5.5 executable,

Apple mail to Evolution
Does anyone have an idea on how to convert Apple mail to Evolution?
I have loved Evolution since early Ximian days....

dovecot and evolution
I am using dovecot 0.99.13 and Evolution 2.0.2 on Fedora Core 3.
Recently, Ximian stopped being able to access my local INBOX via IMAP,
failing with the following error:
Error while Opening folder imap://malsyned at localhost/INBOX.
Incomplete server response: no information provided for message 1.
I got a transcript of the conversation between Evolution and dovecot.

One last windows/linux question
One last windows/linux question...
We have an exchange server, only accessible by the exchange protocols. I.E.
no pop, no Imap, and no web. What can I use Linux side to connect to this?
(here's my attempt, to be the only one on the network NOT to use windows)

Linux as a workstation client
I'm exploring the idea of using Linux as a workstation OS for some of the
users where I work. Most of the issues I've looked at seem resolvable, but
I keep running into one sticking point. We rely heavily on shared folders
on our Samba server, using ACLs to restrict things on a departmental basis.
What I'd need is a way to mount these folders with the permissions of the

Domain membership problem in OpenSuse 10.2
Dear Everyone,
I am trying to use an OpenSuse 10.2 computer on a Windows 2000 domain
using winbind authentication (join to domain). I added a few lines to
the smb.conf for extracting sfu attributes, and my smb.conf looks like
this:
[global]
idmap backend = ad
idmap gid = 1000-100000
idmap uid = 1000-100000

CRASH: mail-cache-fields.c crash - new info, hacked 'solution'
I'm baaaaack. :-)
I've managed to implement a suggestion from Hans Morten Kind from this
list that seems to have stopped the crashing. However, my hack -
commenting out a call to i_unreached() - makes me queasy because I have
no idea of the ramifications of it (I don't habitually code, myself).
So I wanted to lay it out for y'all in case this is a problem that you

Ximian is a good replacement for exchange, it should do. When the winedbg>
prompt comes up, run bt to get some info on the crash. If nothing at
http://www.winehq.com/site/docs/wine-user/bugs works, file a bug report.

Does anyone know what the problem is? Do I need to use a previous version of libxslt or maybe a later version of icecast... I'm trying to install Icecast 2.2.0...

Making POP3 not retrieve deleted messages
Since my users often use the webmail system to delete messages to save
their poor strained dial-up POP3-using mail clients, and our new web
mail system isn't expunge-happy like the last one, I found need for this
patch -- it adds a configuration option for pop3 "pop3_ignore_deleted",
a boolean, that does just that.
I'd love feedback.
