Index cache file problems in Dovecot 1.2.0
I've been seeing lots of index cache file errors (using mbox on Solaris
8 sparc 64-bit, but with 32-bit Dovecot) since I switched my account to
Dovecot 1.2.0 (we're still on 1.0.15 mostly, but I'm hoping to upgrade
to 1.1.17+ this summer, or 1.2.x if it's stable enough).
e.g.

used_file_size too large
Hi.
Just got this error (1.1.rc4), is it something to worry about?
Corrupted index cache file /.../Maildir/.Sent/dovecot.index.cache:
used_file_size too large
This is a shared mailbox with concurrent access. In general, can that
usage pattern mess up the index? I am guessing "no", which is why I worry
slightly about the warning.
Cheers,
Anders.

Corrupted index cache files
I see these errors more often than I'd like from Dovecot-1.1.2 on Mac
OS X 10.5.4 (names and numbers elided):
Corrupted index cache file %s: Corrupted virtual size for uid=%d: %d !
= %d
Corrupted index cache file %s: Broken virtual size for mail UID %d
Corrupted index cache file %s: used_file_size too large
How bad are these? What should I look for to find out why they happen?

Locking foolishness
I'm working on getting Dovecot set up on my school's mailserver, as an IMAP
and POP server. Everything is going well, move over to maildir went well,
and all that...
The catch:
When I coverted from mbox to maildir (as part of this whole process), I put
the Maildir folders under user home dirs -- and the home dirs are mounted
via NFS from a server. This is for reasons of space as well as

Linux, Maildir over NFS, Locking problems
Hi,
I am having problems with file locks with my NFS mounted Maildir setup.
NFS Client/IMAP Server is RHEL3 clone whitebox and NFS server is a
Fedora Core 2 system. Both are running lockd as far as I can tell.
dovecot is installed with Dag's latest dovecot RPMs for RHEL3. Time is
synced between the two systems.
Here is the pertinent log file entry

index file corruption
Hi,
I'm using Dovecot (dovecot-0.99.10p0) on OpenBSD-3.4 for few weeks now.
When i connect to my IMAP account the connection is often closed by
dovecot when i try to delete mails.
I can see messages like this in log:
Feb 29 18:47:00 po imap(mat at reynerie.org): Corrupted binary tree file
/home/mat/Maildir//.INBOX/.imap.index.tree: used_file_size larger than
real file size (1772 vs 1556)

Stupid hold music
Does anyone have a collection of stupid hold music? Y'know, the sort of
thing that would drive a person mad? Silly songs, repetative tunes etc?
The best I can come up with is;
I know a song that drives everyone up the wall
I know a song that drives everyone up the wall
I know a song that drives everyone up the wall
And this is how it goes

Hey john mark.
I saw that you recently mentioned some work using gluster for sequencing
data (where there are alot of intermediates, and sometimes, huge raw input
data sets that get denoised).

Extra form feed on Samba printing
I am using samba to share my RedHat V5.0 printers to my MS Network clients, but
I get an extra blank page at the end of each print job. I've looked at the
printcap man pages, but haven't been successful in getting rid of the trailing
blank page.
Here's the printcap section for the printer I've been having problems with:

Index(?) problem under OpenBSD
Hi,
My apologies if this has been mentioned before, I haven't pulled up a
google search yet. I run Dovecot from the package under OpenBSD 3.6
(dovecot-0.99.10.8).
The problem I have is that occasionally dovecot corrupts an index file
(I think), which causes the process to gradually creep up in usage,
until it hits 99%, where it stays, without quitting. If I then fire up
my mail client

- vpopmail authentication fix
- many mmap_disable=yes fixes and a few optimizations
- pop3 hang fix
- mbox fix for "last-uid lost" error (hopefully last one)
- mbox fix for losing dirty flag, causing lost message flags
mmap_disable=yes seems to be finally working pretty well. There should
be no more cache file related errors with it enabled.

is gzcon w/ urls not implemented or used differently on linux?
I wrote some code which reads a gzipped text file directly from the web with gzcon(url()) and it works perfectly on OSX, but I cannot get it to work on linux at all, trying several different R versions and linux distributions. Any ideas?
Here's an example of my code:
z <- gzcon(url("ftp://ftp-private.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubchem/.fetch/8897497837079742771.sdf.gz"))

MIME structure intermittently lost
I'm using Dovecot-0.99.10.5-0.FC2 on Fedora Core 2 on the server, and
Mulberry 3.1.6 over Win2kSP4 on the client. Intermittently messages with
multiple parts show up as a single text part. I'm not sure if it's Mulberry
or Dovecot. I just turned on IMAP logging and restarted Mulberry and a
message with two text/plain parts that wasn't showing the 2nd part is now
displaying it
