Authentication woes - Couldn't drop privileges: Mail access not allowed for root
I'm currently trying to set up a Dovecot 2.0.0 server for backup purposes. There's an existing server which I successfully migrated to Dovecot 2.0.0, and it uses LDAP for authentication. For the backup server, which will not be exposed to users, I tried both PAM and PASSWD authentication, but all I are syslog entries like these: dovecot: imap-login: Login: user=<foo>,

Sieve autoreply woes on test setup
Hi, I have been testing sieve in my setup with qmail-ldap and deliver on a LAN with an artificial domain name. Everything seems to be working as expected, except in cases when autoreplies (vacation, reject messages) need to be tested. The domain name is vmint, and dawnone is the hostname on which mail server is setup, so a users have address like cot at vmint, cute at vmint and dove at vmint *

Supporting charsets
Hi there! We are trying to use support for japanese language, but when composing in squirrelmail or while resending either in squirrel or in Outlook, we do not get the right symbols. The server and client PCs have all the required software. Indeed, we receive japanese written messages and can display them well. The problem arises when we resend or compose a message. In the squirrel configuration,

Squirrel 1.4.8-8.el3.centos.1
Hi, Last tuesday I upgraded squirrelmail on two centos-3 mailservers. squirrelmail-1.4.8-8.el3.centos.1, 2.4.21-58.ELsmp, CentOS release 3.9, httpd 2.0.46 Since then I have some users who have problems with their sessions. ANNOTATE plugin? Squirrel uses it for EXPIRATION information
Hi, it seems that Squirrel mail uses Mailbox annotations for storing Expire times on the Server. It's an Cyrus server currently. (I've no clue how cyrexpire is able to read it's information from the annotiations) Does dovecot support some similiar mechanism? Or - does anybody know anything about how it's supposed to work on Cyrus and how it can be emulated/simulated with dovecot?

[PATCH] drop root privileges on solaris, request for testing
Hello all, this patch allows master process to drop more root priveleges under Solaris. My limited testing shows that code works, but I'm not sure that defined privilege set is permissive enough for dovecot. Unfortunately I have no root access to our Solaris servers to really test it. So if someone is ready to test this patch please do it :) Best regards. -------------- next part

All mail in mbox disappears when using Outlook
I thought I was imaging it but... I have a friend (honestly) that likes to clear his inbox every month by copying older into a folder (e.g. June-2009). Every month he complains that all the mail in the new folder has disappeared. This has happened three times now, and he's sort-of-right. I now believe it's a bug rather than him. The setup is Dovecot 1.1.3 on FreeBSD 7.0 and the client is

Can't drop root group privileges
Hi all, I need your insight. I've been testing Dovecot on an AIX 5.2 system. Compiled and running fine. We have some users on an AIX 5.1 system, so I'm working on installing it there, so we can do further testing. I'm using Dovecot 1.0 RC15 with OpenSSL 9.0.7e, configured to use port 10143 (imap) and 10993 (imaps). The error I'm seeing in the log is: dovecot: Nov 28
