very slow boot from USB Pen-Drive
Hi there, I try to boot from an USB Pen-Drive. This works fine on my Laptop, but when I try to change to the target machine it almost takes five minutes until the initrd (fairly big, 18MB) has been loaded. Any hints on how I could try to increase speed? The Bios has already been updatet to the most recent Version. Sven -- "Das ist halt der Unterschied: Unix ist ein Betriebssystem mit

pen drive, hard disk, cd not being detected
I am working in Centos5.5. Pen drive, hard disk, cd are not being recognised. During booting, "mounting local filesystems [failed]" is displayed among other errors which I am unable to see as the messages proceed fast. Are these messages stored in some file, so that I can check them and report all the errors that are displayed during booting. -------------- next part -------------- An

apache -> pen -> mongrel cluster
Hi everyone, Recently, I''ve been reading about different deployment environments for rails and mongrel. One configuration I''ve started seeing is apache -> pen -> mongrel cluster. See http://errtheblog.com/post/35 as an example. Can someone explain to me the benefit of using Apache and Pen as opposed to either using apache as a load balancer or pen by itself?

ices2/icecast2 on a pen 100
hello, I got icecast2 and ices2 going on an old Pen 100 box. It's streaming a lecture given by Richard Stallman at the University of Aberystwyth in June 2002. The files are found on http://www.6809.org.uk/audio/ I had put the sample rate down to 24000, as the Pen 100 seem not to be able to handle anything about that. According ps aux, ices is taking 91 percent cpu. The box is working just

changing pen mode [or adjusting for overlapping points?]
I'm ploting a rather large number of points [~24,000] in two series with slightly different distributions. I would like to be able to effectively see where the two distributions overlap by setting the pen mode (or it's equivalent) to allow the overlapping portion to show up as a different color (or different shade). Unfortunatly, I couldn't find an option in par or postscript that

USB Thumbdrive + dos ghost boot image + drive too small = confusion
I will really hate myself if this has already been solved, i searched the archives but didn't really find anything pertaining to it. I have a 2.88mb dos boot floppy image, with ghost.exe, dos nic drivers, and dos system files. It works fine when burnt to a cd. As for the thumbdrive when trying to configure this hpghost.ima file to run from my syslinux.cfg menu, it works and boots up fine but

Linux SYSLINUX vs SYSLINUX.EXE
To all or anyone: I have a very strange problem when using syslinux, and lnx-bbc. Perhaps somebody can provide some insight into Syslinux as it relates to what I'm trying to do. At Peerless, we use LNX-BBC to build a bootable USB thumbdrive. We added a script to init.d in the ram disk to execute one our scripts during LNX-BBC boot from the USB thumb drive. I have seen an apparent

Booting to USB Pen Drive
I am trying to use Syslinux as my boot loader for a stripped down version of Knoppix (DSL) on a USB Pen Drive. I followed the instructions verbatim on http://rz-obrian.rz.uni-karlsruhe.de/knoppix-usb/knoppix-usb.html, but no luck. The system will start to boot to the USB, but gives a Kernel Panic. I will give all information that shows on the screen. After I select Boot from USB (which on my

isolinux on a pendrive from disk 1
Hi I just grabbed an 8gig thumb drive, took disk 1 centos 4 i386, copied the isolinux directory files to my thumbdrive, then ran syslinux -sf /dev/sdc1 on the device plugged it into my laptop and it does not boot. Is there a step(s) I am missing to get a bootable thumbdrive with centos? Thanks, Jerry

install from USB thumdrive
Hi all Is there a procedure to use an 8GIG thumbdrive to copy the centos 5.2 dvd contents to the thumbdrive then run isolinux (or something like it) and be able to use the thumbdrive as the install media? Seems like it should work, however my machine only has syslinux not isolinux. yum provides isolinux does not return anything. Anyway I was trying to get to a point where I can just stick a

AW: Problems with installation
ok - I tried this too. But CentOS tries to find the floppy as /dev/hda which is not the device for the USB-Floppy. Dell ships one with the server because no one is integrated. So when I try to include the driver disk the installer is not able to find it. -----Urspr?ngliche Nachricht----- Von: centos-bounces at centos.org [mailto:centos-bounces at centos.org] Im Auftrag von Jim Perrin Gesendet:

getting device to boot from thumb drive
I have created a custom kernel as I needed to add floating point emulation to the kernel. I used the command below to create my initrd: mkinitrd --preload=ohci-hcd --preload=uhci-hcd --preload=ehci-hcd --preload=ext3 --preload=jbd --preload=scsi_mod --preload=sd_mod --preload=ata_piix --preload=libata /boot/initrd-2.6.9-67.ELmsgnet.img 2.6.9-67.ELmsgnet When I copy my vmlinuz and initrd to

boot thumbdrive with CentOS 7 ISO???
The big picture is I'm wanting to boot centos 7 and install kvm. So far I've created on this new laptop a big, empty partition; in the BIOS enabled legacy booting and disabled UEFI; also in BIOS under Legacy Boot Order set "USB diskette on key/USB hard disk" on second priority. I've tried to boot from a usb thumbdrive three times and it failed all three times. I'm

combining kickstart and DVD on a USB thumbdrive
Hi all, I am trying to find information on taking a DVD of centos 5.2 x86_64 and putting it AND my kickstart file on a USB8G thumbdrive. Note - I am not INSTALLING linux on the USB disk just trying to make installation media for it. I am not taking just the bootdisk.img file to make the USB bootable but the entire DVD content on the USB and my kickstart files. I'd like to just be able to

extlinux chain32 and USB Pen Drives
Hi All, I have a USB pen drive with 4 ext2 partitions on it. Partion 1 contains a 'real system' and Partition 4 contains a 'rescue system'. I'm trying to setup extlinux so I can boot either partition, unfortunately it not working. I ran 'extlinux /mnt/boot' with both partition 1, and then partition 4 mounted to /mnt. I 'cat'd the mbr provided with
