Silent migration from mbox to maildir?
Hi, after migrating to a new hardware (which is soo soooo mutch faster than the old one) I start to think about migrating from mbox to maildir. I'v read some docs and wikies and some questions are unanswered or maybe I skip the answers: - Is it possible to migrate the mboxes "silent" e.g. if a user logs in the mbox is converted? - regarding the Namespaces wiki article, it is

INBOX as mbox, other mailboxes as maildir
All, I'm trying to teach dovecot to use the mbox format for /var/mail/%u and maildir for /home/%u/Mail/ but I'm having quite a hard time. This is Dovecot v1.0.beta3 under OpenBSD 3.9 on sparc64. I've been fiddling with default_mail_env and also tried separate namespaces, but all to no avail. Here's some of the things I tried : default_mail_env =

mbox vs maildir
I'm using Dovecot 1.0.1-12 on Linux/Fedora 7 along with sendmail and procmail all running on the same box mail is stored in mbox format It's a small system with a half dozen or so e-mail "accounts". Each with 40-60MB of messages in various folders. I keep seeing messages about how mbox is antiquated and anybody with more than 100 messages etc should not use mbox, but use

INBOX as either mbox or Maildir
In Dovecot 0.99, I recall somewhere I read it was possible for INBOX to be both a Maildir and an mbox in the same configuration (either automatically detected, or depending on the existence in a different location). Perhaps I was wrong, I'm not sure. Any way, I now became interested in this sort of setup: Most users have their spool an mbox in /var/mail/<username>, and then they

Mixing MBOX and Maildir?
Is it possible to have some folders be mbox and some be maildir format? Why you might ask? Sometime for diagnostics I have the Exim MTA archive certain messages in MBOX format and then I want to copy them into an imao folder to look at them with Thunderbird. When I used MBOX all I had to do was copy the file into a folder and it worked. So what I'd like to do is have a folder with a

2nd REPOST: mbox vs maildir
I'm going to assume this is just not possible, or that no one has an answer, which would lead me back to uw-imap since it does work as-is. So I'll post it again, hoping that there is a solution for this setup and that folks have just been too busy to help think about it and/or help come up with a possible solution. ----- Ignoring my previous message just for a second, I realized

Mixing mbox and maildir
Is there some way to add a maildir folder to a mbox hierarchy? My folders are all mbox, but I want to migrate some client-side mail from a client (PMMail2000) that stores messages as individual files, and it might be easiest just to dump all the files into a maildir directory with suitable naming.

Mixing MBOX and MAILDIR
Hello, I have about 100 mboxes, a few with a lot of mails and others with a few mails. I have configured dovecot to use maildir as mail format, but I would like to give users the ability to access their old email located in their old mbox. So all the new mail would be in the ~/Maildir/ and their old or archived email in /home/vmail/mboxmail/%Ln How can I add a namespace to achieve my

Setting up mixed mbox and maildir
I'm trying to set up a dovecot server for which mail arrives in an mbox, and mail is stored in a maildir. The wiki (see http://wiki.dovecot.org/Namespaces) refers to this as "Mixed mbox and Maildir". It advises handling this situation by creating two namespaces: one for the mbox and the other for the maildir. Each of these namespaces starts with namespace private { On the other

INBOX as Maildir and folders as mbox
Hi, I was wondering whether anybody has managed to get Dovecot 1.0 to store INBOX as Maildir and folders as mbox. I've tried something like default_mail_env = mbox:/folders/user/mail:INBOX=maildir:/inboxes/maildir/user:INDEX=/indexes/user but it doesn't seem to work (treats INBOX as mbox). I'm hoping to move some INBOXes from mbox on local disk to Maildir on nicely-mirrored NetApp

What's the difference between mbox and maildir
I'm a little confused about some of these terms. What is: .imap/.imap/ (other than directories) mbox INBOX (I think I have this one) maildir ??????? I'm not sure how all of these things work together. Thanks, Andy

ssh tunneling and maildir
Hello everyone, please keep my CC'd, I'm not on the list. I've been using dovecot happily via an ssh tunnel. My mutt is configured to use IMAP, and the tunnel is as follows in my muttrc: set tunnel="ssh -q mymailhost 'MBOX_LOCKS=fcntl MAIL=/home/jlbec/mail /usr/libexec/dovecot/imap'" It should be pretty obvious that this logs into mymailhost as me (via SSH

Spam on this list
Hi all, Recently there has been a flurry of spam to this mailing list. I'm considering switching the list to "subscriber post only" as a result. If you send from and receive to different addresses (like I do, for example), you need to subscribe your send-from address as a "no mail" address. Would people object to this scheme? -hpa

Staged migration from mbox to maildir
So much changes in this migration that the ideal way to do it would be to begin with a few users or a department, then migrate the users affinity group by affinity group: first an institute or so, then the faculty, then the staff, then the students, moving to bigger and bigger groupings as the bugs work out of the migration and the move becomes more assured. We use sendmail and procmail.

mbox and maildir
Is it possible to mix maildir and mbox formats with dovecot? For example, I would like ~/mail to be in maildir format yet keep the inbox (/var/mail/%u) in mbox format. If so, how may I go about this? Or am I stuck not being able to create subdirectories in ~/mail? Cheers, Shane

Mixing mbox and maildir
Hi there. I understood that in Dovecot 1.0 it should be possible to mix the usage of mbox and maildir mailboxes. I just downloaded, built, and am testing dovecot-stable-20050304. I'm a bit confused as to the terms of namespaces (haven't read that part of the RFC yet), but this does not seem related. Anyway, when I try specifying: default_mail_env = ~/mail/:INBOX=/var/mail/%u On

Personal dovecot
Do you think it wold be worthwhile to add command line options to "deliver" and "imap" to make them ignore "system wide" configuration file and use ~/.dovecotrc instead? I would like to use "imap via fetchmail ssh plugin" and "deliver via ~/.forward (to get sieve support)". Such options would allow "cleaner" configuration. --
