Dovecot not handling r/o mailboxes completely, and problem with ACL as a workaround
First of all, I think dovecot is really fantastic and I have thanks for all the hard work. I think it will be the best fit for my ~5000 users when I have it setup completely. We normally have approx 500 concurrent IMAP connections during the day. I am trying to convert from courier-imap to dovecot, but I have an issue with public namespace folders that are not writable by certain users.

INBOX un-subscribable (is that a word?)
I am trying to get open-xchange installed and working (which after two days might be futile). In doing this I noticed that no email client can subscribe to INBOX. I'm using rc10 and my namespaces are the following. 99% of the email clients ignore the inability to subscribe to INBOX and display all the folders underneath anyway which is why I've never noticed this issue... however,

No auto-conversion of .customflags?
Hello, I'm in the process of migrating 0.99 dovecot maildir boxes to a pair of new machine. These servers were running the stable (etch) 1.0rc15 package of dovecot until yesterday and existing .customflags files were correctly converted to dovecot-keywords. Yesterday I upgraded to the (finally, thanks to who did this) 1.0.0 etch backports package and since then freshly migrated boxes get

customflags considered a folder?
Hello, i just switched from courier-imap to dovecot on a machine. The transition was painless except for one issue - when using the "Check mail" feature of kmail, one gets the message: "Unable to get information about folder customflags. The server replied: internal error..." So it looks like the server isn't properly hiding the .customflags file for some reason. I

customflags and keywords
OK. After checking the 0.99->1.0 migration documentation, it seems I've been a little confused between customflags and keywords. (Though this is partly due to my repeated requests for clarification being ignored.) The page (http://wiki.dovecot.org/moin.cgi/UpgradingDovecot) says 1.0 does not use .customflags any more. Now, I'm hoping they're still supported, in which case

Customflags problem?
I'm new here, but I'll just jump right in. I've been using Dovecot with Fedora for a bit with the default mbox format. I recently transitioned to the Maildir format since some users were getting mailboxes in excess of 1GB in size, which made expunging and flagging no easy task. Anyway, it appears now with Maildir, that customflags are "added" instead of

Migrating mailboxes
Hello everyone and Happy 2013! I have a situation -- the first ever I have come across -- which I don't understand. A friend was/is running Postfix and Dovecot - with default configs - nothing was ever changed :-) [root at mail home]# dovecot --version 0.99.11 Anyway, he had a problem with a user mailbox which I wasn't able to diagnose and fix easily. maillog showed: Jan 9 16:11:29

Upgrade from 0.99.x to 1.1.x
Hi! I want to upgrade a Dovecot installation from 0.99.14 to 1.1.15, so I had a look at the following wiki article: http://wiki.dovecot.org/Upgrading?action=show&redirect=UpgradingDovecot The article http://wiki.dovecot.org/Upgrading/1.0 says something about .customflags -> dovecot-keywords and .subscriptions -> subscriptions change/conversion:

Hope I didn't forget anything :) v0.99.8 2003-02-25 Timo Sirainen <tss at iki.fi> * NOTE: Configuration file has changed a bit: auth_userinfo was replaced by userdb and passdb. *_port were merged into *_listen. Disabling listening in imaps port is now done by changing protocols setting. * Maildir: .customflags location has changed for INBOX. If you have set any custom

0.99.10-test1
http://dovecot.procontrol.fi/test/ Maildir syncing now works pretty much as described in my earlier mail. It was quite a large change, so please test this :) So the new and great features: - It's faster. - If someone renames maildir file just before we try to use it, we now resync the maildir and try to find it again. Before we just failed. It's also possible that the filename changed

Another permissions problem?
The rebuild server is now almost complete. Dovecot is running, and I can telnet and log in. In kmail on this workstation I have created an imap account, for which Inbox was created. I also created Trash and sent-mail as top-level folders, and they display correctly with the cur, new and tmp sub-folders on the server. I now want to create subfolders of Inbox, and there I'm coming

Visibility of .subscriptions and .customflags
Hi, I upgraded to test65 from 0.99 (mostly to get the namespace feature) and now it seems my .subscriptions and .customflags are showing up as mail folders in my IMAP client (Eudora). If I try and open those folders, of course I get an error. How can I configure dovecot so that these aren't displayed to my IMAP client? I looked through about 6 months of acrhives and couldn't find

IMAP Folder Creation
I am using Maildir with dovecot 0.99.14-1 and postfix. My IMAP server was working where I could create a folder in Kmail or Thunderbird and specify wether the folder was to hold messages or folders. Then something changed, and I lost all my folders that contained sub-folders. And now I cannot create folders that contain subfolders (Kmail doesn't event give the option anymore). I can

Postfix and Maildirs
Hope someone can help me with this as I am presently stuck I am setting up a new server with Dovecot 0.99.10, Redhat 9.0, Postfix, Amavisd-new and maildir's in the users home drive. I am using Netscape mail 7.1 as the main client to access the mail store via imap which works fine and various other imap clients can access the maildirs Ok as well. The problem is when Postfix delivers a
