Howto authenticate smartPhone via Active Directory
mj - thanks! That the first useful example I've received from any forum/list. I'm getting ready
to try my config (have to do so after hours), but I have some probably simple-minded questions:
Your example is not the complete dovecot-ldap.conf.ext file, right? Have you just given me
differences in your config from the "original"? You've kept the hosts, base, ldap_version,

Active directory bind and quota stuff
Hi list,
first of all, please excuse me for any grammar mistake on my text, I'm
still learning english.
I'm making a Dovecot installation using my Active Directory like pass
and user DB. I'm setting the per-user quota from an AD field (Initials)
and everything seems to work fine, but I would like to know if you could
help me to improve a couple of things.

Massive Dovecot auth errors too strange for me
Hello out there,
im running Dovecot on "ubuntu Dapper" serving pop3 only in maildir-style,
but the dove-auth-process refuses "answers" to the deliver or
login-process from time to time, (several times a day),
and I have no glue whats going on and why ...
Debbugging password-Auth surprised me, as the transmitted password
IS correct and allows an successfull authenification lots

Howto authenticate smartPhone via Active Directory
Hi Mark,
Just to let you know that we are running dovecot with AD. (and I guess:
*many* people are running that combination)
It worked without issues, we are using in dovecot-ldap.conf.ext:

this user/passwd filter:

dovecot checkpassword passdb and vmailmgr
hello
some times ago I posted some patches to workaround vmailmgr
not fitting into dovecot's passdb-checkpassword authentication
module.
Yesterday I spent some spare time for carrying out a cleaner
solution for this problem.
Check out these patches. If you're not interested in merging them,
I will make them available at the same page I used for the former

Using AD, one more try - "successfol auth" and crashing auth process
Hi,
I have no success in using AD with dovecot.
The little checkpassword script I cooked up that uses ldapsearch to lookup a user DN (with an authenticated bind) and then ldapsearch with an authenticated bind for that DN again works well.
* Approach 1: use a service account to bind to AD, lookup the user DN, and bind to that DN.
It fails. The LDAP config looks like:
hosts =

LDAP auth problems "unknown user"
Hi,
I am setting up a dovecot instance to host a bunch of virtual domains,
with ldap backing for auth. I am using a single hostname for test
purposes, with a couple of entries in the diectory. If I use auth binds
I get a result, but this does not suit the end purpose of the server.
If I use ldapsearch with the same base, search filter, and credentials
as the ldap auth config I get the correct

Need help on checkpassword userdb/passdb
Not to be grumpy, but I've posted a dozen or more message to this list in the
past week about what I think might be relatively common/easy issues and have had
zero response except from Rick Romero who is trying, but hasn't actually done
what I need himself. I'm sure someone has. Perhaps these problem are too mundane
compared to CalDAV, sieve filtering and IPA to excite List interest?

Checkpassword/prefetch/master_user and problems
Hi.
I'm trying to use checkpassword for simple auth and masteruser auth.
I have two programs, one called checkpassword-master (for masteruser
lookup) and another called checkpassword for normal passdb and userdb
lookup).
All works fine for non-masteruser authentication (in this case dovecot
makes a single call to checkpassword binary). But if a master-user
authenticates, dovecot execute

checkpassword auth issues
Hi,
ok, I'm am developing a new solution that includes dovecot, and will be
wanting to use the latest sieve implementation, so I have chosen to
start with 1.2 as the base.
I had a working install of 1.1.8 installed, and got a checkpassword
setup working properly with it to authenticate a user. I used the passdb
to call checkpassword, and the prefetch userdb to tell it to use the
values that

auth problem with dovecot-1.0.beta5
Hey folks,
Let me start by saying I really love what I see so far! Dovecot seems
to be extremely feature-rich, and unlike a lot of free software the
documentation is extremely good! I gave up on courier IMAP because of
the poor documentation, and I have to say Dovecot sure differentiates
itself in that area!
Unfortunately I still can't get it going :-/
First thing I noticed is that

Dovecot-auth stand alone
Since you have to have a SASL implementation with Postfix, either Cyrus or
Dovecot, would it be feasable to have autoconf options to build only those parts
required?
Currently I attempt to disable most things, except for LDAP which we want to use:
./configure --with-ldap --without-pop3d --without-passwd --without-passwd-file
--without-shadow --without-pam --without-checkpassword

Dovecot, AD and authenticated binds...
I posted earlier with reports of less than stellar success in using Active Directory for dovecot authentication.
My approach is to using the two-step approach of
- obtaining the user DN by a search using an authenticated bind (using a service account)
- then binding as that DN, and returning the relevant user attributes
This hasn't been succesful. Dovecot's authentication process does

Problem overriding default quota limit for LDAP users

I install dovecot from debian-backports:

#include auth-system.conf.ext

Howto authenticate smartPhone via Active Directory
Unfortunately, I tried for weeks to figure out passdb ldap without success. I guess I'm just
not knowledgeable enough about how to use ldap and Active Directory. The dovecot wiki
https://wiki2.dovecot.org/AuthDatabase/LDAPm doesn't help me much. All it says is:
Active Directory
When connecting to AD, you may need to use port 3268. Then again, not all LDAP fields are
available in port

You might get better results with

It seems you'd have to configure OpenLDAP backend for Samba to have LDAP.
