dovecot 1.0.15 upgrading to dovecot 1.1.x or 1.2.x, and POP3 UIDL issue
Hi, We're upgrading a cluster of servers from v1.0.15 to v1.1.x or v1.2.x. It appears that the UIDL generation mechanism has changed, and thus we'll be getting POP3 dups with users that leave mail on server (which is a nasty practice, I know). From checking the sources, and performing a number of controlled tests in various scenarios, here is the outcome: upgrade from 1.0.15 to

UIDL format for old UW pop3
Hi, we're trying to migrate from UW imap 2001a-10, which doesn't seem to use the UIDL format documented in the wiki. It seems to use a 16 character long MD5 hash of something. I've tried configuring Dovecot to do the same but the value comes out differently. The main thing that I can see is getting in the way is that the UIDL format is not documented sufficiently. There is no

pop3+leave messages on server
hi All, I have a srange problem. Before dovecot there was a courier imap and it worked just fine. The client(s) are the same then before, so I think, this is an server side problem. I have a user with Outlook and he uses pop3 and leaves messages on server. Sometimes the messages get downloaded again, when he starts the outlook. Not all, but 7-9 hours back. uidl format is like it's

Migrating UW-IMAP to Dovecot on Solaris 9

Changing pop3_uidl_format
I recently set up an OpenBSD - Dovecot mail server for a client. Naturally (according to Murphy's Law) they want to use Outlook 2003, pop3s, and leave messages on the server. And just as naturally, the UIDLs don't seem to be working, and when they download mail, they get EVERY email stored on the server, not just the new ones. Other than switching them over to IMAP, I found the

uw-imap to dovecot conversion tool
i plan to switch from uw-imap to dovecot on a couple of medium size systems and so i have written a conversion tool that understands mbox, mbx, and mix formats and converts to maildir format while trying to preserve uid info, keywords, flags, subscriptions, etc. it seems to work for me now, but i think some feedback might be useful. so if you have some files to convert and a desire to help,

preserving pop3 mail uids
Is there some way that message uids can be preserved when converting uw-pop3 mbox mail to dovecot maildir format? We've tried perfect_maildir, mb2md and the convert-tool that comes with dovecot but so far have been unable to preserve the message uids, which for example go from 44333a8500000003 before the conversion to 4434621500000003 afterwards. The quantity of mailboxes involved means

Again: Occasional problem with POP3-Download
Hello everyone, in february I posted the mail below[1]. I can now reproduce the problem. When filling up a mailbox with postfix' smtp-source with dozens of identical mails, then it is never possible for me to fetch one single mail out of the mailbox. The process of fetching mail via POP3 always fails. It makes no difference which mail client I use. I have tested KMail, Outlook and

UIDL and message migration
Hello, I'm in the process of migrating accounts between two dovecot servers. An old server running ancient 1.0.15 and a new server running 1.2.15. Account migration is going to be gradual and so i would like to use imapsync to move messages and subscriptions from one server to the other. The only problem so far is with POP users. After doing an account migration with imapsync, and

POP3 UIDLs with virtual INBOX and migration from maildir->mdbox
Hi, Considering the scenario, where you have some old account with a different POP3 UIDL format and you migrate them to dovecot. So these old UIDLs would be saved to dovecot-uidlist. At some later time you want to introduce a virtual POP3 INBOX like described on: http://wiki.dovecot.org/Plugins/Virtual So you decide to make the new UIDL format "%f" - to make them unique across

qpopper UIDLs and migrating to dovecot/maildir
hi all, I am hoping to convert a 350K user qpopper installation using mbox to dovecot and maildir (pop3 only). many of the users "leave mail on server", and qpopper's UIDL format isn't (yet) supported by dovecot. since the UIDLs have been written by qpoppper to the existing mbox files (and will be preserved when the mboxes are converted to maildir) it would be possible to do

imap pop3 servers
I'm doing a complete upgrade of a server which I was using uw-imap for the imap/pop4 daemons.(This was an old RH 7.2 system and has been upgraded to CentOS 4.4 64bit) I notice there isn't an rpm at any of the repositories for this. I do pop before smpt for the remote users I have and also use procmail for calling spamc from SpamAssassin. Is there some place I can get uw's imap or

courier-dovecot-migrate.pl maintaining order of pop3 uidl's
Hi there, I've just been experimenting with the latest courier-dovecot-migrate.pl script and I notice that it favours keeping pop3 UIDL ordering rather than IMAP UID preservation. There is this comment (line 312): # POP3 clients may want to get POP3 UIDLs in the same order always. # Preserve the order even if it causes IMAP UIDs to change. Does anyone have details as to which

UIDL documentation
Hi, I see this in the 1.0-beta7 dovecot-example.conf file: # If you want UIDL compatibility with other POP3 servers, use: # UW's ipop3d : %08Xv%08Xu # Courier version 0 : %f # Courier version 1 : %u # Courier version 2 : %v-%u # Cyrus (<= 2.1.3) : %u # Cyrus (>= 2.1.4) : %v.%u # Older Dovecots : %v.%u # # Note that Outlook 2003 seems

locking question
There are three applications that have their mitts on files on my mail server, which is running AIXV5.3 and UWIMAP and mbox format. The mail folders and INBOXES are native to that machine, but also are NFS exported to a login server and a mailing list server. All three machines are running the lockd daemon. Everybody wants to lock differently 1) procmail (delivering for sendmail), which

migrating POP3 from UW IMAP: X-UIDL and X-UID
With a INBOX mbox created by UW IMAP the messages in INBOX mbox contains the X-UIDL field When I use Dovecot POP3 with pop3_uidl_format = %08Xv%08Xu on the first run, X-UID is inserted, but all messages are downloaded again. What am I missing, I don't want the clients to download the read messages again. Thanks Bertrand Leboeuf leboeuf at emt.inrs.ca

locking questions
I have Dovecot 1.0 in trial use by the IT staff, and have some locking questions Background, the mail server runs procmail, sendmail and NFS exports the user homedir and mailbox to a) a login shell host and b) a mailing list services host. It runs UWIMAP on the usual ports and dovecot on a arbitrary port number. Because of concern with NFS and file access contention. I have the following

dovecot.conf pop3_uidl_format
From the Dovecot 1.0.1 sample dovecot.conf file: # If you want UIDL compatibility with other POP3 servers, use: # UW's ipop3d : %08Xv%08Xu ... # Note that Outlook 2003 seems to have problems with %v.%u format which was # Dovecot's default, so if you're building a new server it would be a good # idea to change this. %08Xu%08Xv should be pretty fail-safe. #

dsync and pop3 migration plugin fails for large inbox due to idle timeout
Timo, There is a problem with the dsync POP3 migration plugin when syncing a large INBOX. What happens is dsync establishes a connection to the POP3 server at the beginning of the sync, but then it sits there idle until it's used to sync the UIDLs. On a very large inbox with many thousands of messages it will be idle for longer than a POP3 server's idle timeout setting. When the UIDL

Dovecot 2.0.13 How to use POP3 order
I saw a few commits for 2.0.13 that added MAIL_FETCH_POP3_ORDER, but I haven't been able to find any information on how to use it. I'm migrating from a Merak mail server into dovecot and all the email can be copied directly into a Maildir/cur directory. The filenames are just the timestamps. When I check with dovecot pop3, they seem to be randomly ordered. I'm hoping this
