kmod-kvm
I use qemu-kvm on a Centos 5.2 server to run Windows XP virtually. Usually a new kmod-kvm packages is released shortly after a kernel update, and yum updates them both very nicely. However, two new kernel updates have been released now without a kmod-kvm update. Does anyone know if this package is still being supported? Thanks Jamie

mdstat and /dev/mapper
hi all, In the past I used software RAID-1 and monitored /proc/mdstat to make sure things were ok in the array. I am starting to play with /dev/mapper and was wondering how I monitor this for a disk going bad. Thanks, Jerry

Gluster+NFS as VM datastore for ESXi - issues
Hi all, I've been trying out Gluster Platform, so some info will be from the management interface. If additional data from logs is required, please let me know which logfiles. When using a Gluster NFS volume as a ESXi datastore, creation of a disk file (vmdk) takes a considerable amount of time (with unfsd using 10-50% cpu) and then crashes unfsd. A reboot of the system seems necessary to

Samba integration with AD
I know this question has been posed over and over (and over) again, but I'm at my wit's end. I've dug into the Samba docs, Gentoo specific docs, and PAM docs, and Googled the heck out of it... In any event, I'm running Gentoo 2006.0 (just built) running kernel 2.6.15 and Samba 3.0.21b. I'm 'trying' to set up a simple file server with SSO capabilities to a 2K AD

New HPN Patch Released
The HPN12 patch available from http://www.psc.edu/networking/projects/hpn-ssh addresses performance issues with bulk data transfer over high bandwidth delay paths. By adjusting internal flow control buffers to better fit the outstanding data capacity of the path significant improvements in bulk data throughput performance are achieved. In other words, transfers over the internet are a lot

MOre on buring ISOs
So right now I have installed k3b on this notebook. I am using my Storix DVD/CDRW usb drive. I can read cds with it. Cannot burn CDs. First k3b suggests slowing down (from 8x to 4x). Then use TAO. Then it gave up. So I try cdrecord directly. -checkdrive finds some interesting things. Got to close the drive manually; cdrecord says it can't. then try a cdrecord -v dev=dev/scd0 sample.iso

hdc: lost interrupt
I am seeing a kernel message, "hdc: lost interrupt", when running LTP on the xen0 domain. The first time I saw the ''kernel: hdc: lost interrupt'' in /var/log/messages, I was running LTP on both xen0 and xenU domains. The xenU domain was totally hung at this point. Suspecting a setup error, I re-checked the installation and reran LTP on xen0 alone, without having

UPS rating for SOHO asterisk box
Slightly OT, but I think this is of possible interest to many of you, I need to get a UPS for my asterisk box. They are rated in VA but I can't quite figure out how that converts to real life. I have a PIII-800 box with two X100P and one TDM400P plus graphics adapter, an IDE hard drive etc. Will a small 400VA box be enough for this? tia

General questions about security
Hi, I admit I never gave security that much thought, that is, except the most basic security rules like choosing good passwords, or reasonable file and directory permissions. But now I have to change that, since I'll soon have to setup a dedicated production server for our public libraries. I wonder where to begin. I would say first thing is get a series of "auditing" tools

ext2online difficulty
Hi all I am having some trouble using the ext2online utility, I have reduced the problem down to its simplist form, and it goes soemthing like this: Start with a regular msdos labelled disk (I have tried lvm volumes): Command (m for help): p Disk /dev/sdb: 18.3 GB, 18351967232 bytes 64 heads, 32 sectors/track, 17501 cylinders Units = cylinders of 2048 * 512 = 1048576 bytes Device Boot

New User: Kudos, small/old platform, RPM Illegal Instruction
Hello All! My 1st use of CentOS went well on my later eqpt. Thanks and congrats on a good product. Figured I might as well see if I could use it on some old stuff, still good but obsolete. Picked an AMD 5x86 (equivalent to a Pentium 75 MHz) and decided to see if I could make it my gateway/router. Had some difficulties, not unexpected. Old CD drive couldn't read the CDs. No boot from CD

I/O hanging while hosting Postgres database
I'm seeing a condition on FreeBSD 9.1 (built October 24th) where I/O seems to hang on any local zpools after several hours of hosting a large-ish Postgres database. The database occupies about 14TB of a 38TB zpool with a single SSD ZIL. The OS is on a ZFS boot disk. The system also has 24GB of physical memory. Smartmon tools reports no errors on any disks attached to the system, and IPMI

Kickstart regression
The 5.3 upgrade broke the kickstart procedures for my xen virtual machines. They are installed via http. 1. The installer sets up the timezone interactively even though it is specified in the kickstart file. Not a big deal, though. 2. The installer hangs unpredictably when installing selinux-policy-targeted-2.4.6-203.el5.noarch.rpm. Performing a dozen or so installs, sometimes the

filesystem becomming read only
Hi list, I'm looking for advice/help in tracking down a problem with a new system I've purchased. I have a beige box server with a Gigabyte GA-M51GM-S2G motherboard. It has the nVidia MCP51 SATA controller with 3 250 gig Western Digital hard drives attached to it. It seems that when doing a considerable amount of file writing, the filesystem will become read-only. See attached dmesg

One of the Argument values is corrupted. I'm not abdicating responsibility, but at
