Maildir
I've spent most of the morning looking through the archives. Great information, however, I'm still unable to get my issues figured out. I believe I am missing something quite simple. From what I have read, I want to use maildir, mainly because it will allow the use of subfolders for my clients. My clients are running Mail.app (mostly) on 10.3 clients. I'm planning on using imap

new to dovecot
Hello all I'm new to dovecot (and imap in general!) having installed only only today. My current set up is exim as MTA with procmail delivering /var/spool/mail/%user (which gets nfs exported). We also have a pop3 server running as well. I'm moving to new machine and though I'd look at dovecot and squirrelmail. In /etc/dovecot.conf I'm confused by the default_mail_env, what

Newbie-ish Questions
Hi, I'm in the process of migrating from local Maildir, to IMAP-enabled Maildir (terms are made up by me). I have my Maildir directories all under $HOME/Mail I have a procmail script that sorts everything into different folders under $HOME/Mail, and leaves the rest in a Maildir folder chosen by me, that I think of as my INBOX. Now, I am assuming that the folder I identify as INBOX is the

"Real" users AND Virtual users
Dear all, How can I use dovecot for both "real" users and virtual users? I could configure dovecot for real users, by using these lines in /etc/dovecot.conf: default_mail_env = maildir:%h/Maildir auth default { passdb pam { } userdb passwd { } } To accept virtual users, I used these lines: default_mail_env = maildir:/usr/local/virtual/%u/ auth default { passdb sql {

virtual hosting
I'm trying to figure out how I might set up some virtual hosting accounts for my server. domain1 would be delivered via procmail to ~/Maildir mail directories domain2 would be delivered via postfix to /var/mail/vhosts/domain2/username and similarly for additional domains. There's also one domain that's delivered to another machine, but that's not a dovecot issue. I just

Dovecot strange behaviors on Solaris
Folks - I've been using Dovecot for some time now, but have only recently upgraded to 1.0alpha4. I'm struggling to get my configuration right and I'm seeing some truly bizarre issues. My Setup: Solaris 2.8 / Thunderbird / Procmail / Dovecot 1.0alpha4 My mail setup is only for me, so Dovecot runs at an odd port and under my userID. All my mail is in my home directory, which

LDAP schema for mailLocation?
Hi, I would like to try implementing user specific default_mail_env's as described here: http://wiki.dovecot.org/moin.cgi/MailLocation using the LDAP attribute 'mailLocation'. However, I have been unable to find any LDAP schema which contains mailLocation. What schema is this attribute part of? Thanks, Jason Pepas

configuration problem: maildir folders and messages not found
Hi Perhaps I've been going too far OT in my previous thread or perhaps I just didn't explain my problem clear enough so forgive me for trying again. I have configured fetchmail to fetch my mail from my ISP's POP3-server. I have set up procmail to filter messages and deliver all non-filtered messages to the folder ".IN-catchall/" in "$HOME/Maildir" After sending

Replacing sendmail with postfix (was: deprecations leading up to C8)

maildir and /var/spool/mail
All, Not sure what to do next. Have imap working in that I can see messages in inbox. When I create a folder it won't create one. Looking at maillog shows that I don't have rights to folder /var/spool/mail/.sent or whatever folder I am trying to create. I have procmailrc and dovecot.conf point to /home/Maildir but for some reason something is tied to /var/spool/mail. Of course I am

IMAP - many folders?
Hi, I've been reading the list and it seems the answer to my (soon to be asked question) is no, at least with 0.99, but I'll ask to be sure. I have following setup: new mail goes to ~/Mail/Maildir, except for mailing lists which are moved by procmail to ~/Mail/mailing_lists/name, spam which goes to ~/Mail/spam. Read mail is moved by mutt to ~/Mail/read. Everything is in maildir format.

new mails don't always show
Hi, I am having some trouble with dovecot (0.99.14) and maildir. Some users are reporting that sometimes, they don't get (pop3, various clients) new mails for a while even though they should. I checked and confirmed this: mails were delivered by MTA (sendmail, procmail). But when the problem existed, the new mails were in cur/, not new/ and dovecot would not report any new messaged to the

sendmail getting domain\user as email userId
About a year-and-a-half ago I wrote in a thread having this same subject about a problem my sendmail server was having on my Samba4 AD/DC. To solve that problem at the time, I maintained domain user entries in both the sam.ldb and in /etc/passwd, and did not have winbind specified in /etc/nsswitch.conf. I am now trying to remove all users from /etc/passwd and use winbind. Unfortunately, I'm

New Fedora/Sendmail Install Assistance
Hello everyone, I've narrowed down my problem, so this should be an easy one for some smart person out there. I am moving from an old sendmail/Fedora 2 box to a new sendmail/Fedora 4 box and want to try Dovecot for pop3. The problem is, I can't get it to work. I have 9000 email accounts I will be moving to the new box. I've already tried and failed once. The problem is, Dovecot
