The Status: header is forced
Hi, I started testing dovecot for our next POP/IMAP server (nearing production state), and noticed that the Status: header is always added, with a value of 'O' or 'RO'. This happens in `lib-index/mbox/mbox-rewrite.c'. This does not seem to happen in the Maildir case. Is the Status: header really needed in every case? This breaks mutt which displays mails with a 'O'

Assertion failure in maildir-mail.c for gzipped maildir files in 1.1.15
I attempted an upgrade from 1.1.7 to 1.1.15 and encountered an apparent regression in handling gzipped maildir files. I have tried to narrow down the conditions under which it happens and reproduce it with as simple a case as possible. The actual mail application that exposed this problem is Squirrelmail. Starting off with the index files removed from the "Folder" maildir directory: *

equivalence of gzipped and non-gzipped files?
I'm trying to get a backup system going using rsync --- bit of a newbie. Just wondering if there is a way I can get rsync to recognise that a non-gzipped file in one directory tree is equivalent to the same gzipped file in the (say backup) tree, or vice versa. Could this be done with the include/exclude features? I note that gzip doesn't alter the timestamp on a file when it zips

maildir-size-fix.pl - The file command can wrongly detect gzipped mails as being Minix filesystems
Hi, Some days ago, I have used the maildir-size-fix.pl script (cited in this mail thread: http://www.dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2013-January/087942.html, in available here: http://dovecot.org/tools/maildir-size-fix.pl). This is a very good script and helped me a lot! However, some compressed mails where misdetected as non-compressed mail. So I discovered that some versions of the file command

Support for gzipped kernel mods
After my wonderful experience with febootstrap and and gzipped kernel modules I just wanted to post a little information about it. febootstrap uses insmod, it seems because insmod is required for building the initrd, while modprobe can read in gzipped kernel modules, insmod cannot. This means that there are two solutions to the problem, one would be to make febootstrap copy all of the modules to

missing empty line in mbox folders with Outlook 2000 client
I recently looked into a problem that has been plaguing me since the switch to dovecot a couple of years back, documented here: http://mailman.rwth-aachen.de/pipermail/procmail/2006-May/024363.html The gist is that when I tell Outlook 2000 to write all outgoing mail into a Sent-mail folder on the IMAP server (using mbox format), I find that the mbox's don't have empty lines separating the

Bug#429045: xen-doc pdf gzipped
Package: xen-docs-3.0 Version: 3.0.3-0-2 The PDF's are gzipped. As there is no PDF reader that can open such files, the process to get to read the docs is quite complicated. I doubt this package is useful that way. Then it's faster to lookup the docs on the net. To make it useful, please don't zip the files. Henning

stale locks
Hello Timo, I'm running dovecot-1.0.rc15 (imap and pop) postfix-2.3.5,1 procmail-3.22_6 (which is my LDA) on FreeBSD 6.1-STABLE I'm still using the mbox format (I'm planning to migrate to Maildir soon), mailboxes are on an NFS filesystem. I regulary see stale dotlocks files (either from dovecot (29 bytes, hold the pid of the process) or procmail (1 byte) and processes

Dovecot load balancing
Hello, I'd like to figure out how to set up a site running dovecot on multiple computers for load balancing reasons. I'm currently running dovecot-1.0.14 on a 8GB RAM, 2 quad-core 2.66Ghz Xeon single server which runs FreeBSD 6.2-STABLE SMP. . the mailbox format was mbox and I successfully migrated to Maildir only . mailboxes are on an NFS NetApp server, attribute caching is off .

ACL plugin when file in Maildir is not a directory
Hello Timo, On a production (by that I mean many users) dovecot-1.1.8/Maidir server where ACL plugin has been enabled, I ran on a log verbosity problem : For some reason (in fact, due to mbox -> Maildir migration script), some people have in their Maildir a .procmail.logfile file. The problem is that dovecot (or the ACL plugin) wants to find a dovecot-acl file in what it would like to be a

Sorting Mail
I was wondering if Dovecot has the ability to sort email scored by Spamassassin? I know many people use Procmail for sorting but I was wondering if Dovecot can do the job or should I just use Procmail on my Linux (Postfix) server to sort email in specific folders? I have not yet installed Dovecot and or Procmail on the Postfix / Debian server. I would be installing the latest version avialable

imap indexing error when moving multiple mails
Hi, I've got an 'interesting' problem with a dovecot 0.99.10.4 setup on NetBSD/i386 1.6ZK. dovecot is serving imap only at the moment, using mbox format mailboxes. '/etc/dovecot.conf' is pretty vanilla - among the modified settings, mail_read_mmaped = yes maildir_check_content_changes = yes mbox_lock = fcntl could be relevant. Anyway - from time to time when I move a

Problems with Mailbox is in inconsistent state, please relogin.
Dear Dovecot users, I'm a sysadmin in a company that recently migrated the IMAP from courier-imap to dovecot :-) *urray* Everything with the perl migrating scripts (version 1.0) went with OKs and it was a lot of fun (and pray) to move 400Gb of mails and migrate.. and everything is working even better :-) The problem is for some outside users that use webmails, like: - Squirrel -

beta8 + mbox + Thunderbird
Hi all, I'm still using beta8 (on FreeBSD 5.4-RELEASE). Recently I put a co-worker who's using Thunderbird (1.5.0.4) on it and he seemed to have lost some messages (which were delivered on the spool since seen on procmail logfile). I switched him on another server to play safe and tried to test it myself but failed to reproduce the issue. I myself use mutt on a daily basis with no

Maildirs location migration
Hello Timo, I'm using dovecot-2.1.15 with Maildir mailboxes located on an NFS filer. Postfix is used to deliver mail through procmail ("mailbox_command) as LDA. Our team has bought another filer and everything is meant to go on it, so we're planning to migrate those mailboxes to the new filer. To test it only on a subset of users, I ended up to the following solution : 1. keep

mail delivery question
I've built a new mail system with Centos 6.5, and I'm running fetchmail - sendmail - procmail to maildir. I have all of this working at the moment.(I know, postfix was the default, but for lots of other reasons, I switched, and that isn't an issue, I don't think). I am using dovecot as an imap server. Procmail won't update indexes during email delivery, so I'm having some

Logging IP address for failed login
Hi, I am trying to use the logs to show the IP that brute force activity comes from, but Im not succeeding. I have read the archives and seen the advice others have had. I can see logs for repeated bad logins, but I need the IP address from the attempts. dovecot 2.0.12 / CentOS 5.4 / imaps only (993) I have tried a bunch of different combinations of 10-logging.conf settings. This is what I have
