login with alias
Hi all, i'm setting up mail server and here is the question: if, for example "firstname.lastname at domain.com" is e-mail address, then how can i setup login as "firstname.lastname" and "password" not only "firstname". Of course, users want all things simple. But i don't want to use login names longer than 8 chars. Any ideas? Or should i try

dovecot, vpopmail and djb's tcpserver
Hello! I've tried to set up dovecot in conjuction with vpopmail, and running it under djb's tcpserver instead of (x)inetd. Btw - there was no reference to setting dovecot up using (x)inetd either in the manuals/faqs i read, though I didn't search all that hard. Anyway, back to my Q: vpopmail uses vchkpw as an authentication mechanism, and with tcpserver I can do relaycontrol (based

[Bridge] Bridge not bridging NFS fragments?
Hi, please Cc: all replies, I'm not subscribed I seem to have troubles with my Linux bridge (2.6.8-rc2), which is apparently not bridging UDP fragments (NFS) when passing packets through iptables, but I do not see in the iptables stats where the packets are dropped. Policies for INPUT, FORWARD, OUTPUT are all "ACCEPT", and I grepped for all REJECT and DROP rules in iptables -nvL,

Feature question/request
So I have a bunch of users who are roaming - IE no static IP address from all over the internet. Some of them are able to use SMTP-AUTH which is great, but for those that can't, a pop before smtp solution is in place using relay-ctrl-age & cdb files via qmail. Would it be desirable to have this feature in dovecot? I'd really like to ditch qmail-pop3d, etc. vpopmail has a

feature request: maildirquota
Hope maildirquota++ is soon supported, without it, dovecot is useless in my use (mail hosting with maildirquotas). Also QUOTA cabability in dovecot is needed to get to use my webmail plugins that use a001 CAPABILITY to get quota support. Courier imapd supports this. --snippet from quota usage plugin to squirrelmail-- function sqimap_get_quota ($imap_stream, $mailbox) { if

1.0-test10
http://dovecot.org/test/ Transaction log file contains now only message UIDs rather than message sequences. I'm not really sure why I originally thought sequences were better.. 0.99 Dovecot used UIDs too. A lot of difficult logic (which was also broken) went away with this change. Fixed also "Maildir sync: UID inserted in the middle of mailbox" errors. I can't anymore get this

0.99.10.6-rc1 released
http://dovecot.org/rc/ Fixes the crashes people had been getting more often with 0.99.10.5. Also included all the patches in dovecot.org/patches/old: - SHA1 passwords - mail_extra_groups setting (Debian people can finally fix #185335 :) - autocreate missing maildirs (and don't crash) - maildir_stat_dirs setting If no problems are found within few days this will simply be renamed to

Adding mail to dovecot directories
I run mailagent (which is similar to procmail) to filter all my incoming messages. I would like mailagent to put these messages directly into my dovecot server. What I'm doing right now is to create files (one per message) in the "~/mail/.folder-name/new" directory, or in the case of INBOX, in the "~/.mail/new" directory. I have ~/.mail as my maildir. The files created

FreeBSD port of Dovecot
Hello. I am trying to install Dovecot 0.99.10.9 on a FreeBSD 4.10 system from the ports collection (latest via cvsup). When running make, I get the message: dovecot-0.99.10.9 Currently incompatible with security/gnutls This is in contrast to the Dovecot web page which states that it does support GNUtls and OpenSSL. I am not really interested in gnutls/openssl support at this time. Is

Message display corrupted or missing in Netscape 7.0 and Mozilla 1.3
Hi, a few days ago, we switched our site from pop3 to imap. We are running about 20 users with Netscape 7.0 on a FreeBSD-4.8 Server . I installed dovecot 0.9.99.1 via the freebsd-ports collection, which was as easy as make install and start dovecot. Our users mailboxes are still standart mbox format in /var/mail/(user), as it is default in Freebsd. Now we suffer from a realy ugly problem,

5-STABLE softupdates issue?
Greetings, out of fun and to investigate claims about alleged bgfsck resource hogging (which I could not reproduce) posted to news:de.comp.os.unix.bsd, I pressed the reset button on a live FreeBSD 5-STABLE system. Upon reboot, fsck -p complained about an unexpected softupdates inconsistency on the / file system and put me into single user mode, the manual fsck / then asked me to agree to

who broke keyboards again?
I have a client that has several dell machines, when he boots without a keyboard he gets: atkbdc0: <Keyboard controller (i8042)> at port 0x60,0x64 on isa0 but no: atkbd0: <AT Keyboard> flags 0x1 irq 1 on atkbdc0 kbd0 at atkbd0 This used to work, then was broken by someone trying to "do the right thing". We need the keyboards to be hot swappable. I recommend that

HELP: ServerWorks data corruption after 350 MB with BerkeleyDB 4.0?
Hi, I received a bug report against BerkeleyDB 4 that may not be BerkeleyDB related, but a problem with FreeBSD or specific hardware in general. Jie Song (CC'd) reported that writing files with BerkeleyDB (no threading or something) on his ServerWorks machine causes data corruption (detected by BerkeleyDB 4.0 library functions) when the file sizes grow beyond 350 MB. For details, see PR
