OT: Problems updating OS to deal with fading R support for Ubuntu Hardy Heron...
Evening folks:
Not sure where this fits into the picture so bear with me for a few
moments while I think out loud to lay out the particulars of my problem.
-would love to be employed using R for a living but so far I have just
worked with it on my home machine to develop a basic level of skill with
it.
-I run Ubuntu linux 8.04 LTS on a machine with a 2.5GHz Celeron
processor and 1.2GB of memory.

Win95, sharing printers and drives
I have two computers ROLAND (RedHat 5.2 and Samba) and LINDA
(Windows95).
I am already able to print on the printer connacted to LINDA. Yesterday,
before I managed to get the printer working, I was alos able to see
ROLAND's directory 'tmp' and 'winD' on LINDA.
The problem that I saw this morning was that the printing still works
but LINDA can no longer see the shares of

Very slow plot rendering with X11 on CentOS 5.5
I am connecting from a PC to a Linux system running CentOS
release 5.5 (Final) and it is extremely slow to render plots
to the X11 device.
This is not R's fault but I wonder if anyone can offer
guidance so I can help the system administrators address
the problem.
I can connect to the Linux server using a NoMachine NX client
for Windows or using X-Win32. I also have access to R running

Windows 7 + Samba 3.5.6 = abject misery...
Can anyone help with this? I set it all up a few months ago, the samba
side being standard upgrades via debian - configured as a PDC, and the
windows 7 clients being clean installs, with the standard
lanmanworkstation regedits done.
They've been working fine since then, but have now started failing,
instead raising the error message
