Questions about mail process chroots
Greetings, I am configuring a new Dovecot installation, and the way the valid_chroot_dirs and mail_chroot variables affect the mail processes are a bit unclear to me. I was wondering if anyone could provide me with more specific details than the comments in the configuration file do, or maybe even recommend some values given my configuration. We have a Debian GNU/Linux system and a mix of users

Dovecot chrooting
hello all i am new to dovecot and i have a small problem. I use qmail as a pop3 server and dovecot as imap. my rc script is as follows: -----snip----- #!/bin/sh exec env - PATH="/var/qmail/bin:$PATH" \ qmail-start '|preline procmail' splogger qmai -----end----- thus i deliver mails through procmail so all mails are located to /var/spool/mail. The problem exists when i tested

Chrooting dovecot.
Greetings, I have installed Dovecot under FreeBSD 5_3 It is pretty impressive. I got SSL working with no problem for both imap and pop3. Besides that I do still want to chroot Dovecot. I noticed that there are some options in the dovecot.conf that are intended for this. Unfortunately online resources on how to do that can't be found on google. Although I'm running the server as user

Shared folders not listed by IMAP
Hello I just upgraded my system and there is a problem with shared mailboxes. When I use the doveadm command I can see shared folders: doveadm mailbox list -u 'test at mydomain.pl' Drafts Sent Spam Trash Shared Virtuals Virtuals/all Shared/test2 at mydomain.pl Shared/test2 at mydomain.pl/Sent INBOX But I can't see them over IMAP protocol. Some config opts: valid_chroot_dirs =

valid_chroot_dirs question
Hello, I've got a dovecot setup using PAM and real system users. In this setup I also use pure-ftpd to give local users ftp access to their $HOMEs. To have pure-ftpd chroot into the user home i replaced /home/user with /home/user/./ in /etc/passwd. Unfortunately this breaks Dovecot this way: Oct 23 18:18:20 localhost dovecot: Invalid chroot directory '/home/foo' (user foo) (see

chrooting/jailing transfer-only accounts
Folks, I've been tasked to find a solution that will create file-transfer-only accounts that are jailed or chrooted to a specific directory. (Not an uncommon task, I think.) Using the OpenSSH server and the OpenSSH scp client program, I can achieve the goal of having a file transfer only account jailed to a specified directory, by using the "scpjail" script (attached) as a

SSL Client Certificate Support
Dear Timo, most modern enterprises make use of a Public Key Infrastructure. It would be nice to have dovecot check a client certificate instead of a password. This makes life much easier and more secure. Mail clients like Mozilla and MS Outlook do support this. What do you think of the following feature request: - Client authenticates with a certificate via SSL. (Like stunnel can) - Dovecot

Upgrade from 1.0.1 -> 1.0.5 failed (rc 75)
Hi, I'm using a mixture of Exim, Dovecot and Deliver. Exim receives the mail and validates the user against our database, then pipes the e-mail to deliver which puts it in the right mailbox. We were running Exim 4.67 and Dovecot 1.0.1, and today I did an in-place upgrade to Dovecot 1.0.5 and Exim 4.68. However, now Exim is failing deliveries saying deliver returned code 75. If I

chroot directory question
I am setting up dovecot for imap on a new Fedora 3 box. Through SquirrelMail I can access my email - no problem. However my other users are getting this error message: ERROR : Connection dropped by imap-server. Query: CAPABILITY Looking in the maillog file for further error details gives me this: dovecot: chroot directory no included in valid_chroot_dirs: /home/user Looking through the

Can TFTPD run in a chroot jail?
Hi, I've been struggling with this problem for the last couple of hours and am nowhere near solving the problem. I am trying to run a tftp server in a chroot jail. Now perhaps I am being paranoid, but I would like to have it launched from within its own jail even if it supposedly does a chroot itself and runs with a parameterizable user. I downloaded the atftp-server package and tried

Backspace key does not work in a ssh chroot jail
I setup a ssh chroot jail following this[1] guide. It works for my user to login, use ls and use scp which is all I really want. I do have a problem I cannot solve: when connected and navigating the filesystem, the backspace key actually moves the cursor forward and does not delete what I type. I may have found a hint from some googling that readline will read in /etc/inputrc on login but if

Mails don't get deleted after POP3
Hi, there! Well, I am new to dovecot, so please be patient with me: I have a virtual server and want to setup simple mail delivery. postfix, saslauthd and dovecot basically work fine. The only open issue is, that (I guess) dovecot doesn't remove the mail when it's retrieved via pop3 from the server. It keeps sending me the same emails again and again. (The mail client (Thunderbird) is

[OT]: scp setup jailed chroot on Centos7
[Sorry about "top posting": my OT question arises from the subject..] Could someone elaborate on the "jail" under CentOS. I'm used to FreeBSD jails, and as I run CentOS and some other Linuxes for quite some time I was under impression that there is no such thing as jail under Linux [at least those flavors I run]. Under Linux I did use in variety of places chrooted

Placing Icecast in a chroot jail
Hi, (Sorry for the long email) As a bit of a learning exercise, I'm trying to place the icecast daemon in a chroot jail. I've been mostly sucessful: I can get icecast to serve the default stream from its jail, however I can't get multiple streams to work. I think the problem is that icecast can't resolve addresses in the jail, however I do have an etc/hosts file and

Chrooting question
Hi, All. I've got a feeling it's a simple matter and it was discussed on this list (i've searched the archive) but still all answers i've found didn't solve this problem. We want to move from UW-IMAP to dovecot, when users INBOX is /var/mail/USER_NAME and his folders are ~USER_NAME/mail/. In addition the host is an FTP server that uses chrooting in order to prevent users from

shorewall in chroot jail
Hello, I would like to run other services like messaging services on my firewall machine too. Does it make sense to run shorewall, openvpn and the pppoe package in a chroot jail? And is it possible to run these programs as an other user? Ciao Hugo
