dovecot, vpopmail and djb's tcpserver
Hello!
I've tried to set up dovecot in conjuction with vpopmail, and running it
under djb's tcpserver instead of (x)inetd.
Btw - there was no reference to setting dovecot up using (x)inetd either in
the manuals/faqs i read, though I didn't search all that hard. Anyway, back
to my Q:
vpopmail uses vchkpw as an authentication mechanism, and with tcpserver I
can do relaycontrol (based

0.99.10.6-rc1 released
http://dovecot.org/rc/
Fixes the crashes people had been getting more often with 0.99.10.5.
Also included all the patches in dovecot.org/patches/old:
 - SHA1 passwords
 - mail_extra_groups setting (Debian people can finally fix #185335 :)
 - autocreate missing maildirs (and don't crash)
 - maildir_stat_dirs setting
If no problems are found within few days this will simply be renamed to

Worthwile to use quotas?
I'm aware that dovecot doesn't support Maildir++ quotas yet (pity).
However, is it still worthwhile to set up something like Postfix + Maildrop
to use quotas, or is dovecot's lack of support just going to throw a wrench
in the works?
    Thanks,

Effects of migration
So, to follow up to my previous thread, we just successfully migrated our
NFS-based mail cluster from qmail pop, courier imap, and bincimap to
dovecot 1.1rc1.
Overall the transition was very smooth, the only unexpected adjustment was
having to implement ntpd on each box, rather than doing an hourly ntpdate
against our local ntpd server, to prevent dovecot from crashing itself
from too much

Maildir unreliability
Looks like maildir can't be used very realiably without quite a lot of
locking. Writing and scanning the directory would have to be locked,
but reading wouldn't (as long as the file hasn't been renamed which
would require scanning to find it). So much for "no locks needed"..
The problem is that opendir()/readdir() may temporarily not return some
files if there has been

Can Logon & Join NT4-style Domain, Can't Change Password
Hello Bill,
We have the same problems with our users. After some recent updates they
are unable to change there passwords. We have many networks at different
locations and more and more reports are starting to come in now.
We are using:
centos 6.8
kernel: 2.6.32.-642.1.1.el6.x86_64
smbd -V: 3.6.23-25.el6_7
I noticed Windows 10 enterprise machines are not affected yet.
I am sorry if my post was

[wietse@porcupine.org: Re: syncronous directory operation for linux (ext2)]
There's a big thread about filesystems on postfix-users@postfix.org
Could you shed some light on that issue?

Ok, I've given up
Sigh,
In the interest of moving forward on this project I've given up trying to
get Dovecot to support mailboxes, rather I've tweaked around in qmail and
had it deliver into a mail directory on a disk, that isn't NFS mounted. That
got me past the various locking complaints and "operation not supported" on
home directories that were mounted from the NetApp filer.

5-STABLE softupdates issue?
Greetings,
out of fun and to investigate claims about alleged bgfsck resource
hogging (which I could not reproduce) posted to
news:de.comp.os.unix.bsd, I pressed the reset button on a live FreeBSD
5-STABLE system.
Upon reboot, fsck -p complained about an unexpected softupdates
inconsistency on the / file system and put me into single user mode, the
manual fsck / then asked me to agree to

Postfix locking equivalence?
/etc/postfix/main.cf.default:
mailbox_delivery_lock = flock, dotlock
Is flock equivalent to dovecot's fnctl locking? For mbox what type of
locking settings should I be using? (No NFS, only local filesystem.)

RC7: its issues or mine?
Background: I'm new to dovecot (although with many years Washington IMAP
behind me). We're considering migrating from Washington IMAP to dovecot
on the main service here, and have just started trying dovecot, using RC7.
Washington, IMAP has the usual(-ish) "/var/spool/mail" shared area for the
INBOX (trad. UNIX "From " format); a user's folders default to being

[Bridge] Bridge not bridging NFS fragments?
Hi,
please Cc: all replies, I'm not subscribed
I seem to have troubles with my Linux bridge (2.6.8-rc2), which is
apparently not bridging UDP fragments (NFS) when passing packets through
iptables, but I do not see in the iptables stats where the packets are
dropped. Policies for INPUT, FORWARD, OUTPUT are all "ACCEPT", and I
grepped for all REJECT and DROP rules in iptables -nvL,

dovecot.procontrol.fi anonymous access fails?
Hi,
just started using dovecot on FreeBSD. Nice and easy to configure :-)
I then wanted to browse the dovecot mailing list, so,
according to http://dovecot.procontrol.fi/mailinglists.html:
IMAP archives available from dovecot.procontrol.fi, either use
ANONYMOUS authentication or give anonymous as username and empty
    password.
I was using a patched sylpheed that doesn't support

ext3 and chattr +S on postfix spools
Postfix <http://www.postfix.org> does a chattr +S on its spool directory
when it is installed on Linux.
This is what is written in the postfix startup script
--
#
# LINUX by default does not synchronously update directories -
# that's dangerous for mail.
#
if [ -f /usr/bin/chattr ]
then
    CHATTR="/usr/bin/chattr +S"
else
	CHATTR=echo

Is this still required on ext3 ?
