INBOX as mbox, other mailboxes as maildir
All,
I'm trying to teach dovecot to use the mbox format for /var/mail/%u
and maildir for /home/%u/Mail/ but I'm having quite a hard time. This
is Dovecot v1.0.beta3 under OpenBSD 3.9 on sparc64.
I've been fiddling with default_mail_env and also tried separate
namespaces, but all to no avail. Here's some of the things I tried :
default_mail_env =

maildir and /var/spool/mail/$USER
I was told to use dovecot because it was easier than cyrus. I just
upgraded from fc1 to fc3. I am not sure what fc1 used but I think it was
cyrus and it worked perfect out of the box no configurations to do. The
new cyrus-imapd is not so simple so I got dovecot. I see examples saying
to use mbox=~/mail:INBOX=/var/spool/mail/%u but when I try that I
cannot map mail folders that reside

Maildir and folders not under INBOX
Hi,
I'm planning to migrate from dovecot/mbox to dovecot/maildir both using
imap.
I have read that when using the Maildir storage format, all folders
are stored under the INBOX. Is this true in dovecot too?
I want to have a configuration like the current:
- new mail is delivered in /var/mail/USER
- user folders are in /home/USER/mail
I want to ask if this is posible in dovecot?
Maybe

INBOX as Maildir and folders as mbox
Hi,
I was wondering whether anybody has managed to get Dovecot 1.0 to store
INBOX as Maildir and folders as mbox.
I've tried something like
default_mail_env =
mbox:/folders/user/mail:INBOX=maildir:/inboxes/maildir/user:INDEX=/indexes/user
but it doesn't seem to work (treats INBOX as mbox).
I'm hoping to move some INBOXes from mbox on local disk to Maildir on
nicely-mirrored NetApp

Dovecot does not access /var/mail when using Maildir
Hello,
I'm running debain on my machine with postfix, squirrelmail and dovecot
installed. Everything works fine and I'm able to access my mail via
squirrelmail and via Outlook with imap.
However I want to create subfolders what is not possible. After reading I
discovered that I use mbox and that maildir is needed in order to be able
to use subfolders.
I have created a Maildir folder with

configuration problem: maildir folders and messages not found
Hi
Perhaps I've been going too far OT in my previous thread or perhaps I
just didn't explain my problem clear enough so forgive me for trying
again.
I have configured fetchmail to fetch my mail from my ISP's POP3-server.
I have set up procmail to filter messages and deliver all non-filtered
messages to the folder ".IN-catchall/" in "$HOME/Maildir"
After sending

Dual INBOX Locations
G'day list,
Just a quick question - I need to configure Dovecot to do the following:
* check default_mail_env for the users' inbox in MBOX format
* If the above fails, serve the user an inbox from a secondary location,
in MAILDIR format.
I have read up on Namespaces, however I can't seem to get this to work -
login just fails when Dovecot cannot find the inbox in default_mail_env

Hello all.
I appreciate the responses to my problem on v0.99.14. Thank you all.
We have built a new server running version 1.0-0_15.beta9.el4. The mail

rc7 bug? [Was: deliver LDA and INBOX location] (fwd)
Anyone had any thoughts on the item below?
If the problem is with my config, I'd like to be guided towards how I
might resolve it.
If it is a bug in rc7, it would be good to fix it, and I'd be happy to
beta-test.

Masking INBOX.INBOX
I am using dovecot and trying to make it compatible with my a BincIMAP
installation. BincIMAP uses a scheme similar to Courier-IMAP, so I set
up this default_mail_env:
default_mail_env = maildir:~/Maildir
And this namespace:
namespace private {
separator = .
prefix = INBOX.
inbox = yes
}
Which mostly works as expected, but I now see an "INBOX" subfolder of
"INBOX" in

Multiple authentication databases and storage locations
Hello Everyone,
I am playing with the $subject matter using 1.0alpha4, and thanks to the
archives, I lifted this one from Alexander Shikoff off and used it in my
setup.
auth default {
mechanisms = plain
user = root
passdb pam {
args = pop3
}
passdb sql {
args = /usr/local/dovecot/etc/dovecot-mysql.conf

deliver LDA and INBOX location
(OS: Fedora Core 5; dovecot: 1.0 rc7)
On a typical UNIX-like OS, the INBOXes are in "/var/spool/mail/" using the
user identifier: so user 'fred' has INBOX "/var/spool/mail/fred".
We have a well-established different convention which subdivides this,
based on the last two digits of the uid: "/var/spool/mail/12/fred" (for
fred's uid as something ending

Maildir folder hierarchy question
Hello all,
I am trying to set up Dovecot to use a particular
maildir folder hierarchy and have a problem that
relates to the inbox.
the folder hierarchy I want in /.../Maildir/ is:
.inbox
cur
new
tmp
.imap.index.files-for-inbox
.sent-items
cur
new
tmp
.imap.index.files-for-sent-items
however the hierarchy that dovecot gives me is
.inbox (unused)
.INBOX
.imap.index.files-for-.INBOX

MAILDIR environment
from docs/mail-storages.txt:
"Also as a special case, if MAILDIR environment exists, maildir storage is used with the directory specified in it."
Forgive me if this seems obvious, but is this talking about setting MAILDIR as an enivornment variable? I have it set on my system in both /etc/profile and ~/.bash_profile:
MAILDIR=/path/to/maildir/
export MAILDIR
and have confirmed this

specifying INBOX with maildir for mail_location
I'd like to store all of my mail in maildir, but I want to store the
inbox and indices on fast storage and everything else on deep storage.
Does the following configuration value for mail_location accomplish this?
mail_location =
maildir:/data/deep/%Ld/mail/%Ln:INBOX=/data/fast/%Ld/mail/%Ln:INDEX=/data/fast/%Ld/indices/%Ln

Migrating UW-POP3 mbox storage to Dovecot POP3 mbox storage
Hi
We have an mailserver running RedHat Linux 9.0 with UW-IMAP (imap-2001a-
18.progeny.1.src.rpm), we have user mailboxes in /var/spool/mail/username
using the default mbox storage method.
Some users have home directories and some dont. They only connect through the
POP3 server, not IMAP.
We are now migrating both hardware and software to an new server running RHEL

Problem getting incoming mail to IMAP inbox
I have dovecot-0.99.10.5 on Fedora Core 2 installed and otherwise operating
using Maildir format for the folders, Kmail as the email client. Got through
all the ssl and other security configuration fine, but have one last problem:
I can't read the incoming mail from /var/spool/mail/%u. Tried several
'default_mail_env' settings, including none at all, to no avail. When I try

maildir and /var/spool/mail
All,
Not sure what to do next. Have imap working in that I can see messages
in inbox. When I create a folder it won't create one. Looking at maillog
shows that I don't have rights to folder /var/spool/mail/.sent or
whatever folder I am trying to create. I have procmailrc and
dovecot.conf point to /home/Maildir but for some reason something is
tied to /var/spool/mail. Of course I am

SAMBA 4 as Active Direcotry and Hyper-V
Ok, what you use is your choice. It's what you preffer.
Few other questions then.
If connect from you pc to the hyper-v console, it this logged in the windows event log?
Can you telnet to the hyper-v console port?
Somehere there is something logged. I need that.
Start with increase the samba logs and checking the windows event logs.
