noobie activerecord find query
In my webapp a todolist has many todo items. I am trying to display lists that are completed. By incomplete I mean that all the items in that list are done (booolean = true). I hope to have a list of active lists and complete lists on one page. I''m no ruby expert by any means so I think I have to ''pipe'' some results into another query?? Can you help please? -- Posted

Routing errors with Rails 3.0.1 and Rspec 2.0.1
I''m sure something is borked in my app, but I can''t seem to track it down. A few commits back, my app was fully passing my spec suite. It was on Rails 3.0.0 and Rspec 2.0.0.beta.20. I''ve now upgraded to rails 3.0.1 and rspec 2.0.1 Now, I''m getting tons, and I mean tons of failures that say things like, to take a simple case: 113) SiteController GET

Calling render_to_string from a view
I''m playing around with a list of todos, which I want to render as <ul>''s that can nest to an arbitrary level, so I wrote this as a helper method: def print_todo(t) str = "<ul>\n\t<li>" str += render_to_string(:partial => ''todo'', :object => t) + "\n" t.children.each { |c| str +=

Passing params to a component
I see from http://rubyonrails.org/api/classes/ActionController/Components.html that is possible to pass paramaters to a component. I don''t understand the exact syntax. I''m trying: @master_id = @params[''master_id''] in the components controller but it is not working. ==== Details: In my calling view I have: <%= h(@opportunity.id) %> <div

Thunderbird question
I was looking at the output of thunderbird --help and I see there is no cli arg that makes it start with a specific profile (which can be any one of n profiles) - unless I am not reading the output properly :) I am trying to avoid having to select the profile when starting thunderbird on different worspaces for different profiles.

Win2k Profile problem
ok, I have Samba 2.2.0alpha2 (on RedHat 6.2) up and running as a PDC, I can add Win2k machines to the domain and the machine accounts are automatically created. (finally!) Now, my problem is when a user logs off the machine for the first time, their profile is created, BUT(!) it only makes rwx permissions for SOME of the directories in the profile, this is what I mean: [root@samba profile]# ls -l

Newbie - Grouping of items...
I''m trying to build a dashboard type page (similar in function to basecamp''s) where I can show the last 5 updated items from my 3 differing models, then grouped together by project. Solution ideas: (1) Is it best to create a log model where everytime I add or update another model (like messages, comments, lists etc) an enrty gets added to the log along with the project. I

.build method
I have gone to the api and have searched the internet and looked through the books that I have, but I am having trouble finding an explanation on what the .build method actually does and how it is used. I guess the best example is if I want to create a todo list application where I can create a new todo list and add to do items all at the same time. I would post to the todolist controller to

update_attributes updates data from second instance of nested form but not the first
Got a weird situation with an update put to a controller with a form with nested attributes. On the data below, I am updating data for both items (''0'' and ''1'') in rosters_attributes (in the example below I am updating the ''name'' attribute to a new value in both cases. What I am stuck on is that ''1'' gets its data updated,

Pagination problem with acts_as_ferret
Hi, am using this wonderful plugin acts_as_ferret and according to the tutorial at http://railsenvy.com/2007/2/19/acts-as- ? rial#basic I worked it out except the pagination feature. If I have 12 records and I give limit to 10, its correctly displaying 10 records in the first page and is giving the link to the second page too. But when I go to the next page I find the same 10 records instead of

How to switch from NT to Samba transparently?
Hi, I want to switch from our Windows NT server ( which works as our PDC ) to Linux - Samba. Could you advice a step-by-step guide about this process, or is that possible, at all? Can I use Samba as a BDC, convert the user DB and than promote it to PDC? Thanks in advance! Regards; Istvan

[ADV] Rails Recipes Beta Book is now available
I''m delighted to announce that Chad Fowler''s new book, Rails Recipes, is now available as a Beta Book. This is a great title for folks who know Rails, and for folks who want to get the most out of Rails. It contains detailed recipes for doing real-world things with Rails, all illustrated with working code. Some examples are drawn from Rails 1.1, the rest from Rails 1.0.
