vestal_versions -- can I set it to ignore certain columns?
I''d like my published boolean to be excluded from the calculation as to whether a version is created or not. Can anyone suggest a way to do that? RSpec-Rails bug with to_xml?
Hello, everyone. I''ve been lurking here for a while, but this is my first post. I think I''ve run into a RSpec bug in a Rails project I''m working on. I was working on a few REST controllers, and started getting failures on a specific spec that verified whether a certain action returned XML output. I spent quite a lot of time checking my code to see if it was something I

How much test data to use in specs
I''m not sure how much test data I should be using in my specs. I''m writing specs for the Property model in my Rails app. Its "address" attribute is going to be validated with this regex: /\A\d+[a-z]? [-'', a-z]{2,128}\Z/i At the moment, my plan is to spec out the following possibilities. A property is invalid if its address: 1) doesn''t begin with

Class method not being stubbed
Hi guys. I''m setting an expectation on a class method. For some reason, the method isn''t being stubbed, and the expectation isn''t seeing the call. In KeywordListsController#create, I call the private method #create_keywords_and_associate, which calls AdSenseHeavenParser#parse . Thus, some of my specs set an expectation on AdSenseHeavenParser#parse . However, that

remote rsync process dies, local hangs
I've got an rsync job which is consistently failing, but I've been unable to diagnose the problem. FAQ/Google/docs/etc. checked and no luck. Basically, it looks like the rsync process invoked on the far end is exiting, and then the local process waits until the timeout and exits. Both systems are Sun boxes, Ultra 10 or better with 256+ MB of memory. Rsync version is 2.5.0 on the local

Toolbox
Hello my friends Today at FISL (International Forum of Free Software), I''ve had the opportunity to watch a Turbogears presentation. The framework, itself is really weak in comparison to rails, but... When the guy who was making the presentation show the NEW 0.9 TurboGears Toolbox I''ve though: - Isn''t something like that in Rails? Well, after a little googleing

Build gem from .gemspec to store locally
I am getting the error uninitialized constant for the vestal_versions gem when I build it from a gemspec file and install it. I need to store gems locally at a client site. I am using bundle package for most of my gems but the vestal_versions gem comes from a git repository and I can not included in the gems stored in vendor/ cache. I am new to building a gem from a gemspec file. What do I need

R equivalent to Matlab's Bayes net toolbox
Hi, I'm attending summer School at UCLA (IPAM) on "probabilistics models of cognition". I have been an R-user since v. 1.4.1, but was trained in the frequentist tradition (as most psychologists!). I found that all faculty here use matlab and Murphy's bayes net toolbox. I have not had the need to use matlab before, and would love to stick to R for graphics models and

psychometric functions
Hi, I want to fit some psychophysical data with cumulative gaussians. There is quite a convenient toolbox for matlab called 'psignifit' (formerly known as 'psychofit'). It allows the lower bound of the sigmoid to vary slightly from zero, aswell as the upper bound to vary from one. with these two free parameters, the fitted function is less sensitive to noisy data and outliers.

inverse F distribution in R?
Dear all, I'm looking for a function that calls the inverse F-distribution. Something equivalent to FINV in matlab or excel. Does anyone know if such a function already exists for R? (I haven't been able to find one.) Thanks for any leads. Best, Jennifer

Visual stimulus presentation using R?
Dear all! Although the Psycho-Toolbox for Matlab is free software, Matlab isn't. I'm planning to do an experiment where it's essentail to travel to the subjects, not let the subjects come to where the Matlab licences are :-( So I need to use a free software for my experiment if I don't want to by an extra Matlab licence (which I don't want to). Did anyone ever try to do

How to add an after_save callback on runtime on a particular instance
class User < AR end user = User.new Let''s say that I have a user instance with me. After this record is saved I want an after_save callback which would print the id of the record. The only catch is that I am not allowed to change the User class. How can I accomplish my goal? Is that even possible to add an after_save callback on a particular instance object. render_views and render_to_string
Hey guys. One of my controller actions uses #render_to_string to send back a JSON response. When I try to spec this, Ruby raises a NoMethodError, saying that #render_to_string doesn''t exist in my controller action. Here''s the controller action, spec, and output: http://pastie.org/1640962 Any idea what I''m doing wrong? Thanks, Nick -------------- next part

Salted Login Generator issues
Hello all, I''ve just installed and begun to integrate the salted login generator. So far I''m very impressed, though I''ve hit a few snags along the way. Unfortunately, I''ve met the first one that I haven''t been able to resolve on my own. When I hit the login action, I get errors in my log files. The specific error with trace is included below.
