PATCH: Faststart implementation

program never enters browser mode when I add browser()
Dear All I have a program that breaks at the following lines of code: bigfunction = { ... object1 = myfunction(x) object2 = strsplit(object1, ",")[[1]] ... } where myfunction is defined elsewhere outside of bigfunction. The error I get is "error in strsplit() -- object1 not found". However, when I insert browser() into my code so that the above reads, bigfunction = {

Random Sampling from a Matrix
Dear Friends, I have a matrix of size 5000 X 20. The first two columns are indicator variables taking the value of either 0 or 1. Let us call the first two columns Y1 and Y2. I need to randomly sample 1000 rows with all the associated columns, in other words my new matrix should be of size 1000 X 20. I realize that using this command newmat <- mainmat[sample(1000,replace=F),] achieves

How to remove rows based on frequency of factor and then difference date scores
Hello- A basic question which has nonetheless floored me entirely. I have a dataset which looks like this: Type ID Date Value A 1 16/09/2020 8 A 1 23/09/2010 9 B 3 18/8/2010 7 B 1 13/5/2010 6 There are two Types, which correspond to different individuals in different conditions, and loads of ID labels (1:50)

PATCH: Faststart implementation
Hi, find enclosed a patch to implement faststart (or prebuffering). Basically, it stores a number of "refbuf"s, configurable by seconds. When a new client connects, it adds the prebuffers to que clients' queue so they are delivered as fast as permitted by the connection. As result, the players prebuffers are filled up faster giving a better "response". I tried

PROBLEM REPORT (and example): EPIPE errors
This small example will make icecast unusable after few seconds. The problem resides on EPIPE received when trying to send the first (58) bytes of the vorbis predata. Change the URL for your own, and try it in a LAN. I have no idea on the reasons of these errors, altough I suspect it's related to the fact that the headers are sent in blocking state and then we change to non-blocking. I

Simple question on replace a matrix row
Hello, I have a matrix mat1 of dim [1,8] and mat2 of dim[30,8], I want to replace the first row of mat2 with mat1, this is what I do: mat2[1,]<-mat1 but it transforms mat2 in a list I don't understand, I want it to stay a matrix... ----- Anna Lippel -- View this message in context: http://n4.nabble.com/Simple-question-on-replace-a-matrix-row-tp1427857p1427857.html Sent from the R help

Some coefficients are doubled when I use the step() function
Hello- Such a strange problem, can't figure it out at all. Using binomial glm models, and the step() function, so the call looks like this: sectionmodel = glm(formula = Target3 ~ S1Q12_NUM.1 + S1Q9_NUM.1 + S1Q5_NUM.1 + S1Q7_NUM.1 + S1Q8_NUM.1 + S1Q6_NUM.1 + S1Q10_NUM.1 + S1Q12_BURG.1 + S1Q12_CD.1 + S1Q4.1 + S1Q12_OTHVIOL.1 + S1Q8.1 + S1Q12_GBH.1 + S1Q11.1 + S1Q7.1 + S1Q12_THEFT.1

lapply, strsplit, and list elements
Hi there, I have a problem about lapply, strsplit, and accessing list elements, which I don't understand or cannot solve: I have e.g. a character vector with three elements: x = c("349/077,349/074,349/100,349/117", "340/384.2,340/513,367/139,455/128,D13/168", "600/437,128/903,128/904") The task I want to perform, is to generate a list,

Subset command and the : operator
Hello- I have some code that looks like this: with(mydatalocal, sum(table(Service[Time==5:8]))) This is designed to add up the numbers of responses between the Time codes 5 to 8 (which are integers and refer to quarters). Service is just one of the variables, I'm just trying to count the number of responses so I picked any of the variables. However, there is something wrong, it returns far

Match strings across two differently sized dataframes and copy corresponding row to dataframe
Hello- Sorry, this is a bit of a noob question, but I can't seem to progress it any further. I have two dataframes which contain a series of strings which exactly match. The problem is one has more rows than the other (more cases have been added) and they have been sorted so that they are not in the same order. The smaller dataframe, though, contains in another column which has codes

Replace selected columns of a dataframe with NA
I am using the following command to replace all the missing values and assorted typos in a dataframe with NA: mydata[mydata>80]=NA The problem is that the first column contains values which should be more than 80, so really I want to do it just for mydata[,2:length(mydata)] I can't seem to re-write the code to fit: mydata[,2:length(mydata)>80]=NA # no error message, but doesn't

numbers as part of long character
Hi, I'm looking for some way to pick up the numbers which are contained and buried in a long character. For example, outtree.new="(((B:1204.25,E:1204.25):7581.11,F:8785.36):8353.85,C:17139.21);" num.char =

Calculating sum of letter values
Hi all If I have a string, say "ABCDA", and I want to convert this to the sum of the letter values, e.g. A -> 1 B -> 2 etc, so "ABCDA" = 1+2+3+4+1 = 11 Is there an elegant way to do this? Trying something like which(LETTERS %in% unlist(strsplit("ABCDA", ""))) is not quite correct, as it does not count repeated characters. I guess what I need is

split a character variable into several character variable by a character
Dear Mao Jianfeng, "r-help-owner" is not the place for help, but: r-help at r-project.org (CC-ed here) In any case, strsplit() does the job, i.e.: > unlist(strsplit("BCPy01-01", "-")) [1] "BCPy01" "01" You can work with the whole variable, like: splitpop <- strsplit(df1$popcode, "-") then access the first part with >

Selecting non-empty elements after strsplit of string
Hello, I am attempting to manipulate strings in which there are differing amounts of whitespace before and after each element taht I want to keep (any word, letter, or number). However, after strsplit and unlist, I know how to select specific elements with "[ ]", but I want to select instead all elements that are not missing. That is, do not select any elements that are simply

Looking for simple line-splitting code
If I have this object: x <- c("abc\ndef", "", "ghi") and I write it to a file using `writeLines(x, "test.txt")`, my text editor sees a 5 line file: 1: abc 2: def 3: 4: ghi 5: which is what I'd expect: the last line in the editor is empty. If I use `readLines("test.txt")` on that file, I get the vector
