setIs and method dispatch in S4 classes
Dear all,
I have a question regarding setIs and method dispatch in S4 classes:
Consider the following example:
#####################################################
## A02 "contains" A01 by setIs:
setClass("A01", representation(a="numeric",b="numeric"))
setClass("A02", representation(a="numeric",d="numeric"))

can nlme do the complex multilevel model?
data from multilevel units,first sample the class ,and then the student in calss.following is the 2-level model. and the level-1 model deals with the student,and the level-2 model deals with the class level the students belong to.
Level-1 Model
Y = B0 + B1*(ZLEAD) + B2*(ZBUL) + B3*(ZSHY) + R
Level-2 Model
B0 = G00 + U0
B1 = G10 + G11*(ZWARMT) + U1
B2 = G20 + G21*(ZWARMT) + G22*(ZABLET) +

Odds Ratio and Logistic Regression
Dear All,
I am learning the ropes about logistic regression in R.
I found some interesting examples
http://bit.ly/Vq4GgX
http://bit.ly/W9fUTg
http://bit.ly/UfK73e
but I am a bit lost.
I have several questions.
1) For instance, what is the difference between
glm.out = glm(response ~ poverty + gender, family=binomial(logit),
data=mydata)
and
glm.out = glm(response ~ poverty * gender,

lme4 / HLM question
I'm hoping that this is a relatively easy question for someone familiar with
the lme4 package.
I'm accustomed to using HLM software and writing a simple 2 level [null]
equation like this:
L1 - Yij = b0 + e
L2 - b0 = B00 + u0
The following command in R provides results that are identical to the HLM
program.
results <- lmer( Y ~ 1 |id , PanelData4)
I can't

VoiPSupply Dot Com: Epilogue
LOL - You mean he actually 'met' Newt Gingrich? How dare you not extend
him credit!!!
I mean seriously... For such a distinguished individual...
Hey, not only have I met the heads of several multi-billion dollar
corps, I have gotten absolutely blasted drunk with them.
So I should get credit, a 40% discount, and your daughters phone number,
right??? LOL
Seriously, though. I think it

If your phones support PoE,
I have had huge success with Zyxel:

'mgcv' package, problem with predicting binomial (logit) data
Dear R-help list,
I?m using the mgcv package to plot predictions based on the gam function.
I predict the chance of being a (frequent) participant at theater plays vs.
not being a participant by age.
Because my outcome variable is dichotomous, I use the binomial family with
logit link function.
Dataset in attachment, code to read it in R:
data <- read.spss("pas_r.sav")
attach(data)

samba 4 joining samba 3 pdc - group mismatch
Hi all
Background: I am not a samba expert, not even close!
I have a ancient samba 3 (Server role: ROLE_DOMAIN_PDC) and I intend to
migrate all files to a samba 4 (Server role: ROLE_DOMAIN_MEMBER)
Users will stay in S3 for now.
Samba 4 joined samba 3 with no problems.
I rsync'ed all files and its permissions (rsync -a ...).
But...
I cannot find a way that makes S4 sees S3 users and groups

Newbie HLM with lme4 questions
Dear R listers,
I know I'm breaking the rules by asking a "homework" related question--
I hope you'll forgive me. I am a social psychology graduate student,
and the only one in my department who uses R. I successfully completed
my multiple regression and structural equation modeling courses using
R (John Fox's car and sem packages were a big help, as was his book).

Rice coding
Going in details through the FLAC format specification, I realize that there
are 2 rice coding methods now supported for residual encoding. I thought I
remembered in the 1.1.3 times that there was only 1 method (with 4-bit Rice
parameter) [or was I drunk ? ;-)]. Going through the change log, I didn't
find any reference to such an addition to the format.
Now, the decoder implementation I'm

Random 502 Bad Gateway
I have moved my project to a dedicated server and I am getting a very
annoying behaviour.
I am able to view the site just fine when using the ip.
The name is properly resolved on my computer, however I am getting
"Bad Gateway The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream
server."
This is simply random. The site works for several minutes, then i get this

predict.coxph and predict.survreg
Dear all,
I'm struggling with predicting "expected time until death" for a coxph and
survreg model.
I have two datasets. Dataset 1 includes a certain number of people for which
I know a vector of covariates (age, gender, etc.) and their event times
(i.e., I know whether they have died and when if death occurred prior to the
end of the observation period). Dataset 2 includes another

Some people asked me lately about how professional Dovecot is.
I purely love that kind of crap. As if presentations meant anything, as
if there aren't all kinds of scholarly work about theoretical perfect
world algorithms and conceptual systems that will never be implemented
and are as practical and effective as wings on a pig. Please.
I'm reminded of the story about how, during the American Civil War, when

Problem of intercept?
Not sure what you are trying to do here.
The immediate issue is that you are getting 'y' on the RHS, because that is the 1st column in Dataset. So "for (i in 2:3)" might be closer to intention.
However, a 0/1 regresson with no intercept implies that the mean for the "0" group is zero, and with two regressors that the mean is zero for the (0,0) group. Looking at the
