Hmisc::rcorr on a 'data.frame'?
Dear all ?Hmisc::rcorr states that it takes as main argument "a numeric matrix". But is it normal that it fails in such an ugly way on a data frame? (See below.) If the function didn't attempt any conversion to a matrix, I would have expected it to state that in the error message that it didn't accept 'data.frame' objects in its input. Also, I vaguely remember having used

x and y lengths differ
I have a problem with R. I try to compute the confidence interval for my df. When I want to create the plot I have this problem: Error in xy.coords(x, y, xlabel, ylabel, log) : 'x' and 'y' lengths differ. I try this code: library(dplR) df.rwi <- detrend(rwl = df, method = "Spline",nyrs=NULL) write.table(df.rwi,file="rwi.txt",quote=FALSE,row.names=TRUE)

quantile regression: out of memory error
Hello, I?m wondering if anyone can offer advice on the out-of-memory error I?m getting. I?m using R2.12.2 on Windows XP, Platform: i386-pc-mingw32/i386 (32-bit). I am using the quantreg package, trying to perform a quantile regression on a dataframe that has 11,254 rows and 5 columns. > object.size(subsetAudit.dat) 450832 bytes > str(subsetAudit.dat) 'data.frame': 11253 obs.

creating a factor
Hi list, I'd like to make a factor with seven 1s and three 2s using the factor() function. That is, 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 2 2 2 I will then bind this factor to the matrix below using cbind.data.frame(). 0.56 0.48 0.22 0.59 0.32 0.64 0.26 0.60 0.25 0.38 0.24 0.45 0.56 0.67 0.78 0.97 0.87 0.79 0.82 0.85 I am new to R and have been using various manuals and have made many attempts without

Normalized Y-axis for Histogram Density Plot
I have the following data which I tried to draw the probability density plot. Here is the code I have: x <- read.table("mydat.txt"); d <- rep(x$V2,times=x$V3); hist(d,probability=T, xlab="FlowSignal"); But why the y-axis range from 0 to 6, instead of 0 to 1? What's the correct way to plot it? #id flowsignal frequency 1 0.67 1 1 0.70 1 1

retrieve name of an object?
Dear all Is there an easier way to retrieve the name of an object? For example, > tmp <- 1:10 > as.character(quote(tmp)) [1] "tmp" > as.character(quote(mtcars$cyl)) [1] "$" "mtcars" "cyl" > as.character(quote(mtcars$cyl))[3] [1] "cyl" The last call more than anything seems a hack. Is there a better way? Thank you Liviu

how to plot a graph with different pch
I am trying to plot a graph but the points on the graph should be different symbols and colors. It should represent what is in the legend. I tried using the points command but this does not work. Is there another command in R that would allow me to use different symbols and colors for the points? Thank you kindly. data(mtcars) plot(mtcars$wt,mtcars$mpg,xlab= "Weight(lbs/1000)",

Ggplot barchart drops factor levels: how to show them with zero counts?
Hello, When plotting a barchart with ggplot it drops the levels of the factor for which no counts are available. For example: library(ggplot) mtcars$cyl<-factor(mtcars$cyl) ggplot(mtcars[!mtcars$cyl==4,], aes(cyl))+geom_bar() levels(mtcars[!mtcars$cyl==4,]) This shows my problem. Because no counts are available for factorlevel '4', the label 4 dissapears from the plot. However, I

sample(c(0, 1)...) vs. rbinom
Greetings.? My wife is teaching an introductory stat class at UC Davis.? The class emphasizes the use of simulations, rather than mathematics, to get insight into statistics, and R is the mandated tool.?? A student in the class recently inquired about different approaches to sampling from a binomial distribution.? I've appended some code that exhibits the idea, the gist of which is that using

ggplot cumsum refined question (?)
OK, so maybe last night was a little too much at one throw, so I have reduced the data to two stations- one that has precipitation and one that does not. This is going to be in the context of a larger data set. I would like to be able to issue a ggplot command and have cum sum just act on the facets (factors) to apply this. library(chron) library(ggplot2) DF <- structure(list(date_time =

suggestion: "." in [lsv]apply()
I'm sure this exists elsewhere, but, as a trade-off, could you achieve what you want with a separate helper function F(expr) that constructs the function you want to pass to [lsv]apply()? Something that would allow you to write: sapply(split(mtcars, mtcars$cyl), F(summary(lm(mpg ~ wt,.))$r.squared)) Such an F() function would apply elsewhere too. /Henrik On Thu, Apr 16, 2020 at 9:30 AM

Implicit vs explicit printing and the call stack
Hi everyone, I've run into a bit of strange problem with implicit vs explicit printing and the call stack. I've included an example at the bottom of this email. The basic problem is that I have an S3 object with a print method. When the object is implicitly printed (ie. typed directly into the console) the function arguments in the call stack are exploded out to their actual values,
