Hershey fonts and substitute()
Hello R users, I am new to R, so this may be a very stupid question. I need to subscript the dotted circle (Hershey escape sequence "\\SO") to a string. I tried using text(.5,.5,substitute( R[disk] == 5 R["\\SO"] ) ) but it turns out to be a syntax error. Do you have any suggestion? Thanks Gaetano

methods package not loaded by default when using Rscript in R2.13
Dear all, As the object of this mail suggests, the methods package is not loaded by default in R2.13 when using Rscript whereas it is loaded when using an interactive session. An example with the metafor package : library(metafor) example(addpoly.rma) this works in an interaction R shell, but put it in a .R file and use it with Rscript, it won't work until you added library(methods)

R takes long time to open
Hello. Until today I've been using R2.9 and since today R2.10 (on a PC). In both of them it takes about 20 sec for the prompt to appear IN R console after I start R. And every time it says: "Previous saved work space restored" - even if I have not saved any workspace or, in case of R2.10 - even though I have not used it once. In the older versions - R would start within 2-3 sec. Is

Embedding R's math expressions fonts for graphics generated by pdf() and postscript()
Dear list, First, I am not writing to ask about embedding Computer Modern font in graphics produced by R. I am generating plots to be saved using pdf() and postscript() in R, and I make use of some math expressions that are provided by R, namely, some greek letters. My question is, do I need to embed the fonts that include these math symbols (say, if they are going out for publication, to have

a bug in heatmap.plus?
Hi Allen and list, See the code below.? I've tried it on R2.13 and R2.8.0 using either heatmap.plus 1.3 or the latest.? All gave the same results.? The problem is in the last line: when I tried to plot two different color bars, the one corresponding to "cm.colors(10)" is not correct (it starts with one black and one red.? Not sure where they're from?) Any ideas? Thanks!

export graphics for editing in Illustrator
Dear R users, I would like to edit my graphics in Illustrator. I know that I can set up almost every graph parameter in R, but the time I will spend searching for the correct settings might not be worth since I'm quite used to Illustrator and since I will in any case use Illustrator to prepare for publication. Up to now, I've used savePlot() with type=("eps") but I'm

dealing with sweave.sty and pgfSweave
Hi, I would appreciate some help with a very basic problem in using pgfSweave. That is, dealing with the sweave.sty file. After some googling, I did the following : (1) copied the sweave.sty file to my trial folder and (2) added the line?? \usepackage{Sweave}?? to the Rnw file. Are there more elegant ways of dealing with this issue? I have read something about letting Miktex know about the

Installing packages, again
Hi again, I've just uninstalled R2.01 and installed the new R2.10 on my WindowsXP machine. I then attempted to install the vegan package from source files, as I learned to do last week, with the help of some of you. I have updated my path variable to the new R directory (R/rw2010/bin instead of R/rw2001pat/bin), and I've still got the HTMLHelpWorkshop files installed, as well as Perl

Hello R Developers, Dear R-developers, I ran some standard tests with currently (today morning) compiled R release candidate in Linux R 2.12.1 RC (2010-12-13 r53843). Some of these tests used plot.TukeyHSD function. This worked OK on the screen (X11 device), but PostScript file could not be rendered. The following example had the problem with me: postscript(file="tukeyplot.ps")

variable name substitution
Hi everybody! I'm trying to write a script to plot a histogram, a boxplot and a qq-plot (under Windows XP, R2.10 if it matters) What I want to do: define the variables (x and y) to be used at the very beginning, so that I don't have to change all occurrences in the script when I want to plot a different variable. The dataset is called "ssfa". TO_POS is a categorical
