SPSS R-Menu for Ordinal Factor Analysis
Dear all,
I am trying to conduct an enhanced version of factor analysis with a
SPSS interface that allows to use R. This approach has been suggested in
the recent article:
Basto, M. and J.M. Pereira An SPSS R-Menu for Ordinal Factor Analysis.
Journal of Statistical Software 46, pp. 1-29.
My variables are ordinal-type and the tool of Basto allows to run

Analysing ordinal/nominal data
Hi!
I'm looking for a solution to analyse data, which consists of
dichotomous responses (yes/no) for 2 multinomial ordinal variables. I
was trying glm() and got hierarhical models treating all variables as
nominal, but I can't figure out how to tell glm() to use a model for
ordinal data like this:
log(Mij) = intercept + X + Y + Z + beta*(x-x')*(y-y')

I would be very grateful if you would tell me how I can find the
degree of correlation between a nominal dependent variable and an
independent ordinal variable. The nominal variable has only two
levels: YES and NO.

correlation matrix for mixed contin/nominal/ordinal variables
I have a consulting client with data containing a mixture of
continuous, nominal, and ordinal variables, who wishes
to do some correlational analyses.
Ignoring for the moment whether this is wise or useful,
is there some way to calculate a matrix using, for example,
polychoric correlations for pairs of nominal variables,
or correlations based on normal scores for ordinal variables?

polychoric correlation: issue with coefficient sign
Hello,
I am running polychoric correlations on a dataset composed of 12 ordinal and
binary variables (N =384), using the polycor package.
One of the association (between 2 dichotomous variables) is very high using
the 2-step estimate (0.933 when polychoric run only between the two
variables; but 0.801 when polychoric run on the 12 variables). The same
correlation run with ML estimate returns a

tetrachoric correlations
Hi,
Is there any R library/package that calculates tetrachoric correlations from given marginals and Pearson correlations among ordinal variables?
Inputs to polychor function in polycor package are either contingency tables or ordinal data themselves. I am looking for something that takes marginal distributions and Pearson correlation as inputs.
For example, Y1=(1,2,3) with P(Y1=1)=0.3,

Fit indexes in SEM with categorical data + ML estimation

Polychor() - why does it take that long?
Hello.
Using the polychor function
> polychor(data[c(s1,s2)] )
for polychoric correlations of two ordinal variables in R takes a long time
for N=7000 (20 minutes+) and significantly slows down my computer.
Now, I have a pretty old computer, but it takes about 20 seconds for MPLUS
to print out the complete polychoric correlation matrix for all 16
variables, while I am running the R function

Analysis of ordinal categorical data
Hi
I would like to analyse an ordinal categorical variable. I know how I can analyse a nominal categorical variable (with multinom or if there are only two levels with glm).
Does somebody know which command I need in R to analyse an ordinal categorical variable?
I want to describe the variable y with the variables x1,x2,x3 and x4. So my model looks like: y ~ x1+x2+x3+x4.

function call only expects one parameter. The digits, cutoff, and sort

I have been asked to analyse some questionnaire data- which is not data I'm
that used to dealing with. I'm hoping that I can make use of the nabble
expertise (again).
The questionnaire has a section which contains a particular issue and then
questions which are related to this issue (and potentially to each other):
1) importance of the issue (7 ordinal categories from -3 to +3)

Factanal loadings as large as 1.2 with promax -- how unusual?
I am performing a large (105 variable) factor analysis with factanal,
specifying promax rotation. I kow that some loadings over 1.0 are not
unsual with that rotation, but I have some as large as 1.2, which seems
extreme. I am skirting the assumptions of the model by using responses
on a 7-point rating scale as data; I may have to go back and compute
polychoric correlations instead of product

Details to factor analysis
Well, it is no problem to use R or S-Plus for a principle component analysis (PCA). The function "princomp" works very well with my polychoric correlation matrix, that I use for this approach on ordinal variables. But I want to inspect the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin-crieterion with the "measure of sampling adequancy (MSA)" and the anti-image-correlation matrix. I can''t find

Ordinal categorical data with GLM

I am trying to replicate the results of an example found in Alan Agresti's
"Categorical Data Analysis" on pages 267-269. The example is one of a 2 x 2
cross-classification table of ordinal counts: job satisfaction and income.

R Libraries for ORDINAL categorical data
Hello All:
I know the function loglin() and loglm() from librarary(MASS) performs
analysis on nominal categorical data. Are there any libraries, functions or
examples available for analysis of ordinal categorical data? I have in mind
procedures that can replicate results in Alan Agresti (1984) "Analysis of
Ordinal Categorical Data."
