Rtools questions
Hello:
1. How can I tell when the development version of Rtools has
changed? For the past few years, I've installed the development version
of R tools with each new release of R. I encountered problems with this
a few days ago, so I rolled back to Rtools212.exe. Unfortunately, I
seem to have more problems with that version. My latest install was
under Windows 7 Home Edition.

a^b when a is large and b < 1 (64bit R on windows 7)
Hi,
I'm getting some strange behaviour when trying to use the power operator
(a^b) when a is large and b is less than one:
big <- .Machine$double.xmax
big
big^0.5
sqrt(big)
> big <- 1.797693134862315708384e+308
> big^0.5
[1] Inf
> sqrt(big)
[1] 1.340781e+154
I'm guessing that this behaviour is not expected, or am I missing
something about ^?
Cheers

Calling Rscript from Makevars
Hi,
I am trying to package some code to use with R and wanted to call
Rscript from within the Makevars file (I am trying to automate the
setting of the location of a third party library depending on what is
available / the system the package is being installed on).
If I just have a simple Makevars containing
PKG_LIBS= -lnag_nag -L/fserver/nagprod/FL22/fll6a22df/lib
the package is built

unable to get "R CMD" to work as expected on a 64 bit windows machine
Hi,
I've just downloaded and installed R 2.14.0 using the windows binary on
a 64bit windows machine running windows 7.
Rterm / RGui work as expected, as does
R CMD --help
and
R CMD BATCH --help
however
R CMD check --help
returns no information and I seem to be unable to check a package.
Various other options also seem to not be working as expected, i.e.
R CMD REMOVE aa

Hello,
I installed R 2.13.0 on a Windows 2003 server.? I downloaded the Rtools213.exe from http://www.murdoch-sutherland.com/Rtools/ and placed it in the path (C:\Program Files\R\R-2.13.0\bin).
I submitted the following code:

Sys.setenv(LC_COLLATE=C)
testInstalledBasic('basic')
I get the following message in the R Console, which I believe corresponds to a failure of the

Installing the latest version of BRugs
Hi,
I am trying to install the latest version of the BRugs package on a 32
bit windows machine which, due to the set up, won't allow me to install
it via the usual R GUI.
Can anyone point me to a link from which I can download the relevant
files that allow me to install it manually (most pages flagged by Google
point back to a message saying it was removed from CRAN and to look in

R 2.13.0 on Windows: R CMD check and '"du"' not found
FYI, I'm sure the following is a temporary issue, but in case it slips
through, I want to raise it here. On Windows 7 64-bit, running Rcmd

gomp library with Rtools212
Dear developers,
I am a maintainer of the CORElearn package which uses OpenMP multithreading
to speed up some computations. When producing a new release we tested the
package with the latest R 2.12.0. On Linux the package works normally. On
Windows we installed a recommended version of Rtools (Rtools212) but the
linker fails with the messages below.

Compiling Rgraphiz on Windows 7 64bit with R-2.13.0
Hi all,
I am trying to compile Rgraphiz on Windows 7 64bit with R-2.13.0. I have
installed
Rtools213.exe from [1]. The 64bit packages in [2] provided me with the 64 bit
version
of graphviz. After intalling the binary version Rgraphviz 1.30 (in 32bit) it
complains (as
expected) that:
> library(Rgraphviz)
Error: package 'Rgraphviz' is not installed for 'arch=x64'

windows rtools missing gfortran.exe?
Hi,
I replaced my Rtools today as posted at
http://www.murdoch-sutherland.com/Rtools/Rtools.exe
Trying to build R-devel_2007-12-13.tar.gz without modifying MkRules
gives the gfortran command not found error below. I am wondering if
gfortran.exe is missing from (recent?) Rtools.exe or I am doing
something wrong.
Thanks to hints at Duncan's site, I worked around the error by adding

tcltk error compiling R 2.13.0 under Windows 7 x64
Hi All,
I am trying to compile R 2.13.0 r53834 on 64-bit Windows 7 (home
premium) using Rtools212.exe from Duncan Murdoch's site. I (think) I
followed the installation guide for Windows. When installing Rtools,
made sure I was installing 64-bit tools (including tcltk), etc. I
created a copy of MkRules.local where I selected 64 bit instead of 32
architecture. When I run:

custom package not installed for 'arch=i386'
Dear all,
Since version R-2.12.0, I've got problems building an add-on package for R
("imglib" here) for 32-bit Windows.
The following command is called:
C:\Program Files\R\R-2.12.0\bin\i386\Rcmd build --binary imglib
And here is an error I am getting in the end of processing:

Cygwin and Rtools
I have just got a new machine and had a basic cygwin installed before it
was given to me. It didn't include make. Previously I have installed
Rtools to build packages and now I have got myself a bit confused as to
whether to just install make from the cygwin packages or to install
rtools. I would welcome any advice. I had a look at the rtools section in
the Administration Manual and the

I recently got a RFC on Eclipse and StatET setup from a R-help user, so here
it is.
Note: there may be slight errors of omission in my directions as I am making
these notes after I had a successful install. If you have questions post
here.

problem building R 2.12.1 64-bit on Windows 7
Hello,
I am stuck trying to build 64-bit R 2.12.1 on Windows 7, hopefully the
problem is obvious and someone can point out what I'm missing.
Well into the "make all recommended" process, I get an error:
make[4]: *** [Rzlib.dll] Error 4
(A longer report on the error in the build print is below - there
is also help output from sed that I have included but don't know if it

problem with "make distribution"
Dear R People:
I'm trying to experiment with the "make distribution" with R-2.12.0
when compiling from source on Windows. It works fine on Windows XP,
but I'm having a snag with Windows 7.
Here is the snag:

R CMD build creates tar file instead of tar.gz file
Dear all,
I'm trying to create my own package by following for instance http://epub.ub.uni-muenchen.de/6175/2/tr036.pdf In step 6 (page 19) it says that the command 'R CMD build <mypackage>' should result in a tar.gz file. However, after running the command I end up with a tar file only (no gz extension). I also get the following warnings in the command prompt

R Tools & Vista_x64: Problem compiling RMySQL?
Hello:
What do I need to do to compile R packages (especially RMySQL) for
the 64-bit version of R 2.12.0 under Vista_x64?
I upgraded to "Rtools212.exe" yesterday but immediately got errors
from "R CMD check RMySQL_0.7-5.tar.gz". After the first error, I
installed it a second time, then got "undefined reference to" roughly 50

making operators act on rows of a data frame
Dear R helpers,
I wish to use the "sum" operator for each row of a data frame.
However, it appears that the operator acts on the entire data
frame, over all columns. What is the best way to obtain row-
wise operation?
The following code shows my attempts so far, and their problems:-
test1=array(rbinom(120,1,0.5),c(20,3))
test1[,3]=NA
sum(test1[,1:2])
test1[,3][sum(test1[,1:2])>=2]=1
