finding derivative of a data series in R
Dear All, I tried following for getting derivative of a polynomial in R i<- -10:10 x<-i*i*i+3*i*i+2 fun_spline<-splinefun(i,x) plot(x,type="l") lines(x,fx_spline(x, deriv=1), col='green') lines(x,fx_spline(x, deriv=2), col='green') Now when I plot 3*i*i + 6*i and 6*i + 6 the plot was not same for first deivative. where as the 2nd derivative was same Is this a

system() command in R
Hi all, I have a local server insalled on my system and have to start that from within my R function. here is how I start it: cmd<-"sh start-server.sh" system(cmd, wait=FALSE) My function has to start the server and proceed with further steps. The server starts but the further steps of the program are not executed.The cursor keeps waiting after the server is started. i tried

comparing ARIMA model to data
hi, i am trying to teach myself about ARIMA models. i have followed examples from a number of sources and have more or less got the hang of how it works. i would like to compare the output from the fitted model to the original data. is this possible? or even a meaningful thing to do? to be clear, for example, having generated a fit to some data using > fit <- arima(LakeHuron, order = c(1,

using gsarima package with R
I am trying to use function garsim from package gsarima. I can download gsarima package from http://cran.fyxm.net/web/packages/gsarima/index.html for linux. But how I can add it to R. I have compiled and installed R from its R source code under Ubuntu. regards. -- Amar Kumar Nandan Karnataka ,India , 560100 http://aknandan.co.nr [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

help
Dear R Help group I need to run a command line script from within R session. I am not clear how i can acheive this. I tried shell and system function, but i am missing something critical.can someone provide help? My intention is to create a pdf file of a plot in R and then attach existing files from my system as attachment into the newly created pdf file. Any help would be greatly appreciated..

pdf (probability distribution function) and cdf
Dear all, I would like for a given vector to calculate the pdf and the cdf and then plot these two graphs. Is there in R any toolkit that can help me do that fast? Regards Alex

plotting with line types... bit confusing
Dear all, I would like to print an empirical cdf on a vector I have while the plot(ecdf(myVector)) works great when I try to specify the line type to be a line (I get points) with plot(ecdf(myVector),type="lines") Error in plot.default(NA, NA, type = "n", xlim = xlim, ylim = ylim, xlab = xlab,  :   formal argument "type" matched by multiple actual arguments I get

plot cdf
Good Afternoon, I'm trying to create a cdf plot, with the following code. It works well, but I have little doubt, if you can help solve. When I create the plot, like the graph line would still not appear with point #cdf x<-table(Dataset$Apcode) View(s) hist(s) *plot(ecdf(x))* x<-1 37607 2 26625 3 5856 4 25992 5 30585 6 16064 7 9850 .. ... .. 186 52 -- View this message in

QQ plot
Hello, I am having two data set original and predicted. I want to dind QQ-plot fot it. I tried in following manner : >qq(original~predicted) and error was : Error in qq.formula(o ~ p) : y must have exactly 2 levels There is an option "qtype" which dosent make any difference. What is the correct way for plotting QQ-plot or am I missing something. -- Amar Kumar Nandan

overlap cdf plots and add colors and etc
Hi r-users, I would like to overlap 2 ecdf plots.  I tried this below and it gives me two plots of ecdf but just both just in black. par(mar=c(4,4,2,1.2),oma=c(0,0,0,0),xaxs="i", yaxs="i") plot(ecdf(datobs)) lines(ecdf(gam_sum_gen)) Then I try to add colors etc and also the legend but fail. par(mar=c(4,4,2,1.2),oma=c(0,0,0,0),xaxs="i", yaxs="i")

approximation of CDF
Hi all, is there any package in R capable of smooth approximation of CDF basing on given sample? (Thus, I am not speaking about ecdf) In particular, I expect very much that the approximation should subject to the property: f(x0)<=f(x1) for x0<x1, where x0 and x1 belong to range of the sample given. Polynomial approximation could be OK for me as well. P.S.

finding model order components for arima()
Greetings, I am trying to model a time series using arima(). For getting the model order components(p, d, q and P,D,Q) I am using procedure discussed in [1] in section 3.2 . It is most likely hit and trial method based on lower AIC value. I want to know what is the correct way to find model order components or the method described in [1] is the appropriate one. thanks in advance. -- [1]Automatic

Empirical CDF
Good day everyone, I want to assess the error when fitting a Gram-Charlier CDF to some data 'ws', that is, I want to calculate: Err = |ecdf(ws) - GCh_ser(ws)| The problem is, I cannot get the F(x) values from the ecdf. 'Summary(ecdf())' returns some of the x-axis values, but how do you get the F(x) values? Thank you for any help you can provide. Regards, Augusto

Sampling distribution (PDF & CDF) of correlation
Hi all, I'm looking for an analytic method to obtain the PDF & CDF of the sampling distribution of a given correlation (rho) at a given sample size (N). I've attached code describing a monte carlo method of achieving this, and while it is relatively fast, an analytic solution would obviously be optimal. get.cors <- function(i, x, y, N){ end=i*N

cdf function: inverse to quantile?
Is there a function in R for calculating empirical cumulative distribution functions, i.e. the inverse of the quantile function? Perhaps in some library? I''d hate to have to re-invent the wheel. Function from ecdf to ccdf
Dear all, I would like to calculate the complementary cumulative distribution function. As it is known, the ccdf is the 1-ecdf(X)==1-F(x). (From ?ecdf help is shown that ecdf returns a function which is the F(x) I would like to use that function inside my function and after call curve (which accepts function as input). My code looks like that onVector<-seq(1:100)
