rndc start fails with "rndc: connect failed: connection refused"
CentOS 4.8, BIND 9.2.4
Hi All:
I have a rather annoying problem with rndc which I have not been able
to resolve despite much searching and many attempts to correct. When
making changes to our DNS entries I have tried to use the following
procedures:
1. Flush the cache buffers:
rndc flush
2. Stop named:
rndc stop
3. Delete the journal files:
rm *.jnl
4. Edit the forward and/or

Problems with bind9_dlz when rndc is reloaded
Using your log parameters, the shutting down message is not showed, but when I reload rndc a get the same effect. Everything is working fine until bond9_dlz needs to reload (and no restart) rndc. When this happens, I need to restart bind and everything works fine again.
I'm starting named with named -d 3 -u named and using /var/log/messages.
See log using your parameters:

Bind problem - rndc key (after update?)
Hi list,
here is what happened:
today I noticed some resolution's problems on my network. I did a
"service named status" and here was the output:
# /etc/init.d/named status
rndc: connection to remote host closed
This may indicate that the remote server is using an older version of
the command protocol, this host is not authorized to connect,
or the key is invalid.

Centos 5 where is rndc.conf and named.conf?
In /var/named/chroot/etc there is no rndc.conf or named.conf.
Where are they? Webmin built a named.conf, but it is missing many of
the 'default' entries. And it did not set up the symbolic link to /etc
I am trying to follow instructions at:

Problems with bind9_dlz when rndc is reloaded
Mathias,
Thanks for your reply.
Please, try to start your bind with some debug level and run commando "rndc reload" and see the end of the log. I saw samba source code and found the destroy dns function in dlz_bind9.c and called by turture blz_bind9.c.
When dlz_bind9.c is shutting down, I get this error when I try to update dns.

Workaround for bind9 reload bug : samba_dlz Ignoring duplicate zone
Hi samba team !
I'm face with a new problem on a new Samba PDC install (Debian 9).
I don't know why, but systemd run multiples "rndc reconfig" commands
during the init script. So the bind9 log file show :
-> A successful start
-> A failed reconfig (samba_dlz Ignoring duplicate zone)
at each boot/reboot.
So I need to restart bind9 each time manually. I created a wrapper

CentOS-4.4 update: don't forget those rpmsave and rpmnew files folks!
After you do your update, done forget to do updatedb, makewhatis, ...
The locate for rpmnew has a couple items of interest and the locate for
rpmsave returns one that occupies 24MB of your precious disks -
/var/lib/Pegasus/prev-repository*.
It compresses nicely to appx. 1MB, cpio bzipped --best.
Change in your rndc key too, for DNS.

bind9 won't run
I am working on my second Ubuntu 16.04.1LTS running Samba 4.5.0 with
Bind9_DLZ.
I have one machine just like this one. Same hardware, same software
setup. First machine is working fine.
At the moment this (second) machine is not joined to the other (until I
get Bind running.)
I have searched log complaints. Compared settings between the two
machines and despite bind running on the first one,

bind crashes after samba upgrade
Finally biting the bullet and upgrading some old Samba servers.
This particular server is running 4.10.16 and as a first step I'm
attempting to upgrade it to 4.12.15 (I think I remember something
about 4.11.x not handling the upgrade properly).
Samba seems to run OK but bind9 will crash when loading the dns with dlopen:

DNS help: "unexpected rcode (SERVFAIL)"??
Recently I'm getting these errors on my slave when adding new domains:
Sep 26 13:48:27 hosting named[1668]: zone wholesaletvtime.com/IN:
refresh: unexpected rcode (SERVFAIL) from master 207.218.174.4#53
The master/slave transfers work for the other 1000+ domains that I have,
just not the handful of new ones that I just added after the CentOS 4.3
-> 4.4 upgrade.

Dual controllers with bind DLZ - DNS change propagation
hello
our AD domain is hosted by two samba AD domain controllers version 4.12.6
- replication between controllers is fine, no problems.
- no schema errors.
- no database errors, all fine.
we use this samba DCs with bind with DLZ backend
(bind-9.11.13-6.el8_2.1.x86_64) to manage internal DNS zones. bind/DLZ
setup is deployed completely same way on both DC1 and DC2 (mostly

Expected service, found `wins, dns, files'
Can anyone peruse my attached host.conf file and determine what missing statement this error is referring to? Here is the command that generated this error:
[root@cofr3 s390]# /usr/sbin/rndc reload
/etc/host.conf: line 11: expected service, found `wins, dns, files'
rndc: reload command successful
Thank you in advance for your time.
