Plotting Notched Box Plots Log Scale - Losing bottom portion of box plot
Hello,
I'm using the code below to generate some notched box plots. The issue is
whenever I use log scale, the sides of the bottom part of the box plots
don't plot. I've tried it in RStudio Ver 1.1.419 and R version 3.4.3 and I
get the same result.
The code and link to my data is below.
Thank you for your time

mapping of colornames into hsv: half way done
Ok,
now we have the mapping of color names to color codes (see below) and
conversion to rgb (something like Ben Bolker's function), but how to convert
rgb to hsv?
Thanks to Brian Ripley, Peter Dalgaard and Ben Bolker
Details below

Adding non-data line to legend ggplot2 Maximum Contaminant Level
Well, here is one way but it seems a bit clumsy.
In words, I created a new data.frame with "250" in the Chloride vector and "SMCL" in the Detections vector and supplessed one legend.
Warning: For my convenience I am using different data.frame names .

Strange horns on notched box plots
Hi I'm getting a weird result when I try to switch from a normal box
plot to a notched one. The ends of the box fold down toward the
median giving a horned appearance. Is just the sample itself? It is
small, but the un-notched plot looks okay. Anyway to fix this?
e7=as.vector(c(234,37,98,116,47))
boxplot(e7, plot=TRUE, notch=TRUE)
Thanks very much.

date library and notched boxplots
I'm having problems using the date library with notched boxplots. I have separate month, day, and year columns and would like to plot the columns as a date against other variables. I have used the mdy.date(month, day, year) command before with plot(), but it doesn't seem to work with boxplot(). Instead of the dates along the x-axis, I get a list of numbers. Maybe I have the code wrong?

Adding non-data line to legend ggplot2 Maximum Contaminant Level
Hello everyone,
I have a plot showing chloride concentrations for various point over time.
I also have a dotted line that show the Secondary Maximum Contaminant Level
(my screening limit) on the graphs at 250 mg/L. But I can not figure out
how to include the dotted line / Secondary Maximum Contaminant Level in
the legend. Any thoughts? My code is as following and is linked to my
data on the

Confidence bands around LOESS
Hi Folks,
I'm looking to do Confidence bands around LOESS smoothing curve.
If found the older post about using the Standard error to approximate it

Also found this one

But they both seem to be approximations of confidence intervals and I was

Adding non-data line to legend ggplot2 Maximum Contaminant Level
I just glanced at the problem but I think you would have to create a new variable to replace the hline. What about adding some text annotation in the graph instead?

Can I make my colnames bold?
Hello forum! As the subject indicates, I am trying to make a barplot and
would like my column names to be in bold. Is this possible in R without
having to make my column names in mtext? Any help would be much
appreciated. The code I am using is as follows.

par(adj=.5)
par(font=2)
par(oma=c(3,3,3,3))
par(xpd=TRUE)

barplot question
Dear r-help members.
I would like to:
a) control the margin around my legend box. Unfortunately I did not find an appropriate command under "?legend". The margin around the actual legend is way too wide. There is a lot of unnecessary "empty space" on the right side.
b) increase the width of the individual barplots. I saw that this can be obtained with the command

Bug 14340 - Symbols() plots with wrongly scaled y-axis
Hello, I submitted this bug report to r-core and got a rejection
saying I should post to r-help.
This is my first time ever submitting a bug report, so forgive me if
I'm using some wrong format.
So, here's my bug report:
Component: Graphics
OS: Mac OS 10.5.8, X11 XQuartz 2.5.0
Summary:
In the symbols function of the graphics package, scaling of the y-axis is

Arrangement of names
Dear R-help members
I would be grateful if anyone could help me with the following problem:
1: I changed the font style of the plant names (along x-axis, under the bars) to "italic" . How can I avoid that the font in the legend also changes to "italic"?
2. I would like to place the plant names (along x-axis, under the bars) in a way that :
a) the first plant name is under the

Removing a data subset
Say I have a dataset that looks like

and I use the code below to do the graph but I want to do it without MW01.

Removing a data subset
Reading in the data from the file
x <- read.csv( "ExampleData.csv", header = TRUE, stringsAsFactors = FALSE )
Subsetting as you want
x <- x[ x$Location != "MW01", ]
This selects all rows where the value in column 'Location' is not equal to "MW01". The comma after that ensures that all columns are copied into the amended data.frame.

ggplot2 box plot notches
Dear List,
I just googled to find out if notched box plots are possible with
ggplot2, but couldn't find a answer to it.
boxplot() has the option: notch = TRUE, e.g.: boxplot(mpg$hwy, notch=TRUE)
My example code (taken from the net) is:
require(ggplot2)
qplot(class, hwy, fill=factor(year), data=mpg, geom="boxplot",
position="dodge")+theme_bw()
Thank you for you help!

I just complete an install of 2.6.9-11.EL i686
On reboot, I get a couple of minor errors:
smartd [FAILED] (not sure what this is)
and then an error saying that no X server could be started (I installed
using the graphical install and selected 'everything' as a first-time
install)
The error states:

According to the detail output, VIA seems to get loaded
