oldlogspline probabilities
I using oldlogspline (from logspline package) to model data distributions, and having a problem. My data are search area sizes. They are based on circular search radii from random points to the nearest edge of the nearest grass tussock. Search area sizes are distributed from 0 (the random point intercepts a tussock) and upwards (as points are further from any tussocks). The density of all my

uniform and clumped point plots
I am trying to generate two dimensional random coordinates. For randomly distributed data I have simply used >xy<-cbind(runif(100),runif(100)) However I also want to generate coordinates that are more uniformly distributed, and coordinates that are more contagiously distributed than the above. Can anyone make any suggestions Thanks. Dr Terry Beutel Rangeland Scientist Animal

readVECT6 and readRAST6 fails with R and GRASS 7 ???
Hello all, I'm having troubles getting R to load data from GRASS 7. I suspect I have installed something wrong, but can't figure out what. Any suggestions for what I could look for or how to trouble shoot this? Thanks in advance for any help! After having other issues last week, we have upgraded Debian to the testing version. The other problems are solved, but now I can't get

compiling addons
I am trying to compile the r.stream* set of addons. Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit I have installed the grass packages from the repositories I have also compiled grass 6.5 from source. I have taken the r.stream* from the addons svn and placed the sources in the grass source tree - in the raster file I run make distclean then navigate to the raster/r.stream* file run make and get this error message:

Model design
Dear List, I am realtively inexperienced so i apologise in advance and ask for understanding in the simplicity of my question: I have data on the amount of grass per km in a cell ( of which i have lots) "grass" and for each cell i have x/y coordinates - required due to spatial autocorrelation Cells can be classfied in a hierarchical nature into AREAS and STATES i.e Cell 1, Cell 2,

Plan to build Package to use GRASS from R
Hi Sorry for crossposting, but I think this can be of interest for GRASS and R users. I am planning to write a package to make the use of GRASS from R easier. The idea is to wrap the system call to execute the GRASS command into an R command of the same name. e.g: r.to.vect <- function(..., intern=TRUE, ignore.stderr=FALSE) { comm <- paste( "r.to.vect ", ...,

address (nil), cause 'memory not mapped'
Dear users, I got this problem and i don't have a clue of what it could be happening... The context: i'm running a loop in which i extract information from a raster map (I work with GRASS and R, using spgrass6 package), and rearrange it to create a matrix. I've tried it with small maps and it works smoothly, but in large maps I have to resort to saving data in the hard disk regularly

Installing GRASS_0.1-4.tar.gz on RedHat7.1 Linux
Dear list, I have a problem to install the GRASS_0.1-4.tar.gz on RedHat7.1 Linux. The gmake5 is missing. But I am not quite sure what it is? Is it a gnu version of MAKE? I could not locate it on my system and I do not know what is really meant. Any experience? I get the following message: ---------------------------------------------------- bash-2.04$ R CMD INSTALL -l

Manova question.
Hi list, I'm attempting to re-create a Repeated Measures Compositional Analysis as described in the work by Aebischer et. al. (Ecology. 1993. 74(5): 1313-1325). In this paper they describe transitions of data into a log ratio difference matrix, from which they obtain two matrices using a monova routine. I am able to produce the second of the two matrices, but I'm having trouble

analysing a three level reponse
Hello, I am struggling to figure out how to analyse a dataset I have inherited (please note this was conducted some time ago, so the data is as it is, and I know it isn't perfect!). A brief description of the experiment follows: Pots of grass were grown in 1l pots of standad potting medium for 1 month with a regular light and watering regime. At this point they were randomly given 1l of one

exporting rast from R to GRASS
Hi, everybody! i created a imagem by kriging using geoR package. I imported points from GRASS("zn", after converted to geodata "zn_geo"), the border "zn_border" and a raster mask. Then i interpolated the points by kriging and created a raster image. Now, i need export this image back to GRASS to use it in the module r.mapcalc. I can't do it. I tried use

Modules for using geostatistics for image classification
Hello everyone! I am using GRASS with spgrass6 for my work. I will be using variograms in the process of landsat image classification. I am quite ok with GRASS but am finding R really tough. I understand that spgrass6 is a link between GRASS and R which can read and write raster/vector layers. Out of really many packages in R, for generating variograms out of landsat images which packages of R

spgrass6 and aggregation (bis)
Dear all, I have some additionale question concerning the spgrass6 package. * When you set a region in GRASS, does the readGRASS6 function in R only load data contained in the zoomed region or the whole map ? * When you have a MASK map in grass, does the readGRASS6 function in R only load data contained inside the MASK area ? Could this be the problem ? Thanks, Jessica

Map projections - converting latitude/longitude to eastings and northings
I am trying to set up a Grass project and need to set up the region so that I can view the map. I can look at a map and find the lat/lon, but the map projection is in UTM NAD38 WGS84 and I need to set the eastings and northings. Is there a package that will help me calculate this in R. thanks -- Stephen Sefick Let's not spend our time and resources thinking about things that are so little

Error possibly related with environments/namespace
Hello all, I've got a problem with a function in a R package I've developed (MetaLandSim). One of the outputs of my function is the plotting of four images (combining a graph and a map). This plotting is made in a graphical device, with the graph in one side and the map in the other. My function works perfectly fine until it has to plot the map. Then it stops and I get an error.

publishing random effects from lme
Dear all, Suppose I have a linear mixed-effects model (from the package nlme) with nested random effects (see below); how would I present the results from the random effects part in a publication? Specifically, I?d like to know: (1) What is the total variance of the random effects at each level? (2) How can I test the significance of the variance components? (3) Is there something like an
