Questions about Searching
Hi,
I have some questions about searching with Ferret. I have a user
index with first_name, last_name and full_name (which is just first
plus last with a space).
Here are a couple of questions:
1) If I store the fields tokenized, it appears as though queries are
case-insensitive. However, for untokenized, the query is
case-sensitive. How can I make the untokenized searches
case-insensitive?

How to avoid duplicate search results
I seem to be getting the same document multiple times in my search
results. I''m wondering if this is because by default a document is
placed in the search results every time the word you''re looking for
shows up. Is that the way it works?
Thanks,
Carl

How to do case-sensitive searches
Forgive me if this topic has already been discussed on the list. I
googled but couldn''t find much. I''d like to search through text for
US state abbreviations that are written in capitals. What is the best
way to do this? I read somewhere that tokenized fields are stored in
the index in lowercase, so I am concerned that I will lose precision.
What is the best way to store a

Searching untokenized fields
Hi ..
I tried to exclude certain objects from my search, by adding appropriate
term queries ..
i = Ferret::Index::Index.new
i.field_infos.add_field(:type, :index => :untokenized, :term_vector => :no)
i << {:type => "Movie", :name => "Indiana" }
i << {:type => "Movie", :name => "Forrest" }

OT: US city proximity search
Does anyone know where I might be able to download/purchase a database of US
cities and their longitude/latitude coordinates? I''d like to provide a
search option on a website that allows users to search by city but include
cities in the surrounding area.
Thanks,

Is it possible to highlight search keywords in results?
I''m wondering if ferret has any built-in search/replace mechanism that
I might be able to use to highlight the query data in each search
result. The reason I think this would be a good idea is that I could
end up having to practically duplicate the ferret query parser just to
interpret the query so that I can figure out how to highlight the
keywords in the search results. Just in case

Submitted a patch, got pluses, what now?
Hello Rails people,
I submitted a patch recently to get rid of an annoying exception raised when
an AR
object is created - http://dev.rubyonrails.org/ticket/10556 , had some
people review it,
got some pluses... What am I supposed to do now?
Can anybody advise or just review the patch and take care of the issue?
Thanks!

No search results using Searcher
I just started using Ferret and I successfully indexed some documents. I
can search this index using the following code:
index = Index::Index.new(:path => path)
index.search_each("something") do |doc, score|
print "##{doc} #{index[doc][''url'']} - #{score}"
print "\n"
end
However, when I try to use Search::Searcher and QueryParser

Dovecot Full Text Search results in SolrException: undefined field text [SERIOUS]
Hello,
My dovecot constantly runs into this error.
I want to fix this one last time, I am tired of troubleshooting so
please someone give me a lasting and proper solution for this error. I
think its a problem with the dovecot-solr module.
Please tell me how do I find the root of this problem with Dovecot.
There is a problem with the body search text field. It always

undefined method `add'' for Ferret::Search::BooleanQuery
Up to now in my ferret development I have been using simple
single-word strings as my search queries. I just now am trying to
increase the complexity of my queries. When I was passing a single
word with no spaces in my index searches, like so:
count = index.search_each(''testing'') do |d, s|
...
end
everything worked fine. But now when I do something like this:
count =

queryparser dies badly on double search words.
hey.
I'm using the Search::Xapian interface version 0.9.2 (and xapian-core
0.9.2), and feeding the queryparser such things as "one AND NOT two"
or "test NOT NOT really" makes it go "Aborted"... I've tried adding
the exception handling from the other stubs to QueryParser.xs as
well, but I still can't catch this error from perl. Does this mean

Boosted fields search in Python
Hi,
I'm using Xapian in Python2. I'm trying to replicate an analysis that
somebody else performed in Lucene. To do that I need to do a search for a
multi-word query in which particular fields are boosted - preferably at
query time. That is, given a query like "the cat is lying on the mat" (with
an OR operator, ignoring word positions but with stemming and stop words
removed),

Is there any working way to search multiple indexes?
I''m running from the trunk, and hitting road blocks no matter which way I
attempt
to search across multiple indexes.
I tried a MultiSearcher, but I can''t pass a string for the search query
ms.search "iraq"
TypeError: wrong argument type String (expected Data)
So I tried creating a QueryParser to pass, but I can''t get the fields from

How to get the count of matching documents
I''m trying to generate a rails pagination helper for some ferret
search results, and I need to know how many total matches there are to
my search query. I don''t see an obvious way of finding this. Any
help would be appreciated.

FULLTEXT search in MySQL on rails
I tried adding a FULLTEXT search index to a table of mine in MySQL,
only to discover that the InnoDB table format doesn''t seem to support
this feature. Switching to the MyISAM table type seemed to work, but
I seem to have some recollection that ActiveRecord transactions aren''t
fully atomic on MyISAM tables. Is this true or am I just remembering
wrong? If so, does anyone have

OT: SIP vs. Skinny protocol
I assume there are several people on this list that
have Cisco Call Manager implementations under their
belt....
We are beginning a call manager implementation and
the first question I asked Cisco was, should we use
SIP or Skinny. Cisco is pushing me towards Skinny,
saying that I will lose some functionality with SIP.
They also say that most of their customers implement
skinny.
