Pattern matching - how to ignore numbers after 10 digits
All: Yesterday I discovered something interesting. I dialed 1800ANCESTRY from the asterisk system I am testing and got the number doesn't exist message. I then dialed the same number from our old system and it went through. I realized that the "Y" in ancestry made the number too long, and went back to my dialplan. How do I ignore numbers that are too long? Obviously,

need help using read.fortran
Hello kind and R-knowledgeable souls! I am trying to use read.fortran to read in old datasets in 80-column-card format with no separators between variables (just 80 columns of solid digits). I comprehend the instructions for specifying the columns for each variable, but I can't understand how to assign the variable names after reading the help pages for read.fortran, read.fwf and

Which distribution best fits the data?
Dear R-help community, Does anybody know of a stats function in R that tells you which distribution best fits your data? I have tried look through the archives but have only found functions that tell you if it's normal or log etc. specifically - I am looking for a function that tells you (given a timeseries) what the distribution is. Any help/advice will be greatly appreciated, All the

Model ranking (AICc, BIC, QIC) with coxme regression
Hi, I'm actually trying to rank a set of candidate models with an information criterion (AICc, QIC, BIC). The problem I have is that I use mixed-effect cox regression only available with the package {coxme} (see the example below). #Model1 >spring.cox <- coxme (Surv(start, stop, Real_rand) ~ strata(Paired)+R4+R3+R2+(R3|Individual), spring) I've already found some explications in

AIC value in lmer
Dear R Users, May be this message should be directy send to Douglas Bates ... I just want to know if I can use the AIC value given in the output of an lmer model to classify my logistic models. I heard that the AIC value given in GLIMMIX output (SAS) is false because it come from a calculation based on pseudo-likelyhood. Is it the same for lmer ??? thanks, Arnaud Arnaud MOSNIER Biologiste
