How to center a horizontal legend with specified 'text.width'
Hello dear list, I just cannot figure out how to do this and didn't find a solution for my specific problem. I want to place a centered horizontal legend between 4 plots. That's no problem. The problem is: As soon as I specify the "text.width" parameter to separate the two legend entries, the legend is not centered anymore. I thought the 'xjust' parameter would do what

Function "Varcov" in Design (Ver. 2.2-0) package
Hi, I'm running into an error message for the "anova"-function I never got before with the Design (Version 2.2-0) package. There seems to be a missing function "Varcov", please check my function calls (it's in german but I think you get the error): > library(Design) ## attaching Design package and dependent packages Lade n?tiges Paket: Hmisc ## loading

maximum amount of lines of code to be copy pasted to R console
Dear list members, is there any maximum amount of lines of code that can be copy pasted into the R console? Or some maximum amount of levels of nested parantheses? Whenever I copy paste some big chunk of code into the R console I get errors of missing parantheses etc. even though the parantheses are balanced (i.e. the code runs when run via source or inside some function). Cheers Jannis

openNLP package error
Hello list, I seem to have a problem with the openNLP package, I'm actually stuck in the very beginning. Here's what I did: > install.packages("openNLP") > install.packages("openNLPmodels.de", repos = "http://datacube.wu.ac.at/", type = "source") > library(openNLPmodels.de) > library(openNLP) So I installed the main package as

square brackets in expression in plots
Dears, do you know whether it is possible to include any square parantheses (brackets) in an expression to use it as an axis label? e.g. I would like to have a label like (with the sub and superscripts correct): "speed [m s^-1]" I know how to combine an expression with text via paste, but as I run soimething like: a='m*s^{-1}' plot(1:10,main=parse(text=a)) I found now way

[LLVMdev] Documentation of bitcasts in calls
Dear all, I just stumbled over the following instruction in the LLVM IR of a C program compiled with clang: %26 = call i32 (...)* bitcast (i32 (i32, i32, i32, i32, i32)* @KeWaitForSingleObject to i32 (...)*)(i32 %23, i32 %24, i32 %25, i32 0, i32 0) Since our LLVM Parser choked on this instruction, I tried to check the documentation, but did not find anything about such nested bitcasts within

Error message when using error.bars(x,add=TRUE)
Hey hey, I`m analyzing a data set containing the element contentrations of various samples... I wanted to construct notched boxplots and got quite ugly results for some of the boxplots. The notches are often larger then the hinges which resulted in weird looking edges (even though I`m using a log-boxplot). To avoid this problem I thought about using "normal" log-boxplots and adding some

Format regression result summary
Hello to the whole group. I am a newbie to R, but I got my way through and think it is a lot easier to handle than other software packages (far less clicks necessary). However, I have a problem with respect to the summary of regression results. The summary function gives sth like: Residuals: Min 1Q Median 3Q Max -0.46743 -0.09772 0.01810 0.11175 0.42252

An lgrind definition for the S language
I seem to recall discussion of an language definition file for S for use with the lgrind utility but I can't find any trace of it in an R Site Search. The lgrind utility takes a file of code in a particular programming language and prepares it for "pretty printing" in LaTeX. In my version the available language definitions are $ lgrind -s When specifying a language case is

Best Practices for submitting packages to CRAN
Dear all, I (and a colleague) have been working on our first package (for fitting a certain type of cognitive models: http://www.psychologie.uni-freiburg.de/Members/singmann/R/mptinr) for quite a while now and have the feeling, that it is "good to go". That is, we want to submit it to CRAN. However, I still have two questions before doing so and would appreciate any comments. 1. How

C_LogLin (stats/loglin)
Hi everyone, I have a question regarding a C function of the "stats" package in R. I tried to understand the ?loglin? basic function of the ?stats? package implemented in R. The implemented function itself runs without any problem (perhaps see sample). When I ran it line by line it stopped at the lines 23-24 of the loglin-function; (the following line): z <- .Call(C_LogLin,

ANOVA between & within variance
hi, is there an option to calculate the 'within' & 'between' group variances for a simple ANOVA (aov) model (2 groups, 1 trait, normally distr.) ? or do I have to calculate them from the Sum Sq ? thanks for your time and greetings, gregor -- Gregor Rolshausen PhD Student; University of Freiburg, Germany e-mail: gregor.rolshausen at biologie.uni-freiburg.de tel. :

Unknown internal error
Hello, I just found this message in our dovecot logfiles: "Disconnected: BUG: Unknown internal error" Should I worry about this ? There are no complaints yet (although it is not limited to one user). It seems to occur with different clients (Apple/MacOS mail, Windows/Thunderbird, Pine). We're running dovecot 1.0.10 on Solaris 10 with mboxes (NFS) and local index storage. There are

svm regression in R
Hallo, I have a question concerning SVM regression in R. I intend to use SVMs for feature selection (and knowledge discovery). For this purpose I will need to extract the weights that are associated with my features. I understand from a previous thread on SVM classification, that predictive models can be derived from SVs, coefficiants and rhos, but it is unclear for me how to transfer this

wrong calculation of R-squared in summary.lm
Dear all, I just stumbled upon the fact, that when I perform a regression on multivariate responses, that are not centred, I get a ricilulously high R-squared value. After reading the code of summary.lm, I found a bug in the function summary.lm: mss is calculated by: mss <-sum((f - mean(f))^2) - where f are the fitted values. This works only for a single response variable, because

coordinates from locator function in POSIXct format
Dear R-list, I have a plot with y-axis corresponding to wind measurments and x-axis with date-time information. When I want to identify some extrem wind events in the wind-curve, I use locator() to get the exact date-information, by clicking in the points in graph I?m interested in. I get in the R console the x and y coordinates. The x coordinates are not in a POSIXct format, I guess R is
