question on mkfs.hfsplus
I am wanting to use the mkfs.hfsplus as mentioned here http://www.oli.id.au/createosxdmgdiskimagesinlinux but I dont have the command. yum provides "*/mkfs.hfsplus" returns no packages found. Where do I find this command? Thanks. Jerry

special tricks for developers box on centos 5
I was just wondering if there are special tricks people do that compile A LOT on centos? Do RAM disks help or something else I dont about that minimizes your compile time? I presently have and AMD x2 4800+ with 2GIG ram. Just curious if I can reduce any more time out of my compiles. Jerry

CentOS 7 remove items on screen
How can I remove the four items on screen? Applications, Places home trash from the command line? I'd prefer to remove the top panel and bottom panel all together if possible, but they can stay - I just don't want anything showing on the screen. searched all around for kiosk mode gnome3 etc.. not finding anything good for CentOS7. find IP address of device on network based on MAC address
I have a device on my network that is not DHCP and I dont know the IP address of it and it has not method of finding it or changing it unless you know the IP address (setable by browser). Is there a way on linux, based on MAC address, to get the IP of the unit? Thanks, Jerry

performance lost in using a software raid array with only 1 disk
Is there any performance lost in using a software raid array with only 1 disk? I was wanting to use the mdadm monitoring tools to monitor the machines single disk drive for failures and such. Is there any performance hit for such a setup? Some machines have RAID some machines dont (for me) and I was thinking about a common setup. howto use kvm-amd on centos 5.1
Is there a way to use kvm-amd on centos 5.1? I dont want to mess with XEN. I want the hardware virtualization that is on my AMD chip. I played with putting 2.6.24 and centos 5.1 on my AMD laptop, got kvm-amd and that works. However I want to put this on my desktop that is running 2.6.18-53.1.14.el5. Is there a way or do I just wave to use 2.6.24 or 25. Thanks, Jerry

re-install package
I tried to install alsa 1.0.19 on centos 5.3 64 - did not work - compile errors. I need to re-install alsa-lib and alsa-util . I dont want to do rpm -e first on those packages as dependcy is crazy. I know they were installed (rpm -qa | grep alsa tells me so) I just want to re-install ? How do I do that? Thanks, Jerry

slowness in sendmail - 60 second timeout

Compaq V2000 laptop no USB recognized
To continue here with problems on this compaq v2000 laptop, I put kernel source on a USB disk and plugged it into the v2000. NOTHING IS recognized. I tried to manually mount the disk and nothing either... I thought USB was well established.... I thought trying to recompile the kernel for realtek support might get my networking going... I am trying to hwclock to set the time. X11 build
Morning... I have a package that I think wants to compile against the X11 source tree. http://openchrome.org - its a snapshot from there.... Anyway the command it tells me to run is: xmkmf /usr/src/xc make make install This is to build a updated X graphics driver... However when I do this I get errors as there is not /usr/src/xc (no surprise) I did then "up2date xorg-x11-sdk"

What does it take to get ztdummy to work correctly? I have a new laptop HP HDX9200. I am running asterisk 1.4.19 and zaptel 1.4.9.2 Zaptel compiles fine. asterisk compiles fine. ztdummy loads asterisk runs. Problem is playback() does not work. slugishness
Hi all, I have a 3G AM2 quad core CPU... x86_64 centos 5.3 When I am doing backing up to my external USB drive my system becomes sluggish. Clicking on a thunderbird compose takes some time to pop up the window. Typeing doesnt keep up etc... Is there something I can change so this backup doesnt slow my system down so much? I dont see HOW it can be taking so much CPU. top at times shows 0 idle

has something happened to grep
Hi all, when I do a "grep JERRY *.h" nothing is returned which is what I expect. This is in my source directory... when I do a "grep JERRY *" every file is returned an a line printed even though there is no JERRY on the line. Then if I do a "grep JERRY *.c" just the 4 lines that have JERRY are returned. This is what is prints for "grep JERRY *" src#

usb 3
I am trying to plug a USB 2 device in a USB 3 slot. Nothing is being detected in "lsusb". Is there something special I need to do? I am running centos 5.5 x86_64. I thought 3.0 was backward compatible. Nothing special about my device its an RS232 to USB device. It works in 2.0 slot. Thanks, Jerry

hi all, running centos 4.7 i686. I seem to have an o pen r elay sendmail server. How do I close it? I have the STRAIGHT centos install sendmail.mc file. Only thing I changed was: dnl DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Port=smtp,Addr=127.0.0.1, Name=MTA')dnl so as to allow incoming email and not just localhost. however this seems to relay everyone. rsync arg list to long
I am trying to do an rsync or scp from machine1 to machine2. I am getting arg list to long. I am using centos 5 machine 1 and centos 4.5 on machine2. I am using the default shell which is bash. How can I get past this? THanks, Jerry
