RCurl::postForm() -- how does one determine what the names are of each form element in an online html form?
Dear R-Help, I am looking into using the Open Calais web service (http:// sws.clearforest.com/calaisViewer/) for text mining purposes. I would like to use R to post text into one of the forms on their website. In package RCurl, there is a function called postForm(). This sounds like it would do the job. Unfortunately the URL used in the example is no longer valid (i have emailed the maintainer

Rcurl, postForm()
Dear colleagues, Could I get some assistance using postForm() to scrape the business names and addresses at this website: http://www.brantford.ca/business/LocalBusinessCommunity/Pages/BusinessDirectorySearch.aspx I've read through (http://www.omegahat.org/RCurl/RCurlJSS.pdf) and scoured the web for tutorials, but I can't crack it. I'm aware that this is probably a pretty basic

RCurl : Problem with submitting using postForm()
Hi, I am having trouble submitting a form using the RCurl package. My code runs without errors but doesn't return the table I am after. I have a feeling it is because there are 2 submit buttons on the page and I'm not hitting the right one. I have tried everything I can think of to submit the form correctly but with no luck. My current code is as follows. library(RCurl) library(XML)

How to find series of small numbers in a big vector?
Hello: I have a vector with 120,000 reals between 0.00000 and 0.9999 They are not sorted but the vector index is the time-order of my measurements, and therefore cannot be lost. How do I use R to find the starting and ending index of ANY and ALL the "series" or "sequences" in that vector where ever there are 5 or more members in a row between 0.021 and 0.029 ? For

Using Nokogiri to insert a <span> tag into existing text

mbox to Maildir conversion
I've been running a mbox solution using UW's IMAP server. I've run it for years. Now do to heavy message volumes, I've decided to to take the plunge to convert to the Maildir format. I am currently testing a single user, and have successfully converted the mail messages from mbox to Maildir format, and now I am setting up the procmail tool to place the messages into the correct

[PATCH libnbd 0/4] Miscellaneous Rust cleanups
Add an overview libnbd-rust(3) man page pointing to the real documentation. This is like OCaml & Golang. When reviewing the real rustdocs I noticed they basically converted the man pages into plain text, resulting in lots of problems such as internal links not working, no `code` annotations, etc. So I wrote a simple POD to rustdoc translator. It is by no means perfect, but it fixes many of

test_metaflac fails in make check for flac 1.1.2 after --add-padding is performed
Josh, I applied this patch and all the "make check" tests passed (but I do not have valgrind and I did not use --enable-exhaustive-tests during configure, so it isn't all the tests). Do you see anything suspicious about it? --- flac-1.1.2.oldBuild/src/flac/decode.c 2005-01-24 20:13:46.000000000 -0800 +++ flac-1.1.2/src/flac/decode.c 2006-09-06 23:36:26.000000000 -0700

RCurl and cookies in POST requests
Hello. I know that it's usually possible to write cookies to a cookie file by removing the curl handle and doing a gc() call. I can do this with getURL(), but I just can't obtain the same results with postForm(). If I use: curlHandle <- getCurlHandle(cookiefile=FILE, cookiejar=FILE) and then do: getURL(http://example.com/script.cgi, curl=curlHandle) rm(curlHandle) gc() it's

find_vqs operation starting at arbitrary index
Hello, The recent find_vqs operation doesn't allow for a vq to be found at an arbitrary location; it's meant to be called once at startup to find all possible queues and never called again. This doesn't work for devices which can have queues hot-plugged at run-time. This can be made to work by passing the 'start_index' value as was done earlier for find_vq, but I doubt
