The end of Matlab
Greetings! I come to R by way of Matlab. One feature in Matlab I miss is its "end" keyword. When you put "end" inside an indexing expression, it is interpreted as the length of the variable along the dimension being indexed. For example, if the same feature were implemented in R: my.vector[5:end] would be equivalent to: my.vector[5:length(my.vector)] or:

Reverse function how to
I'm using a script that does this: /usr/local/bin/rsync -tpv --files-from=/home/admin/bin/list_of_files / /home/admin/configuration/ I can't get the permissions on the files to stick, when the files are written they get root as owner. I run the script as root. Secondly I would like to reverse the sync so that I can move the directory configuration to another machine and make rsync

New users cannot log on, current users okay
I am having a problem with the Samba server that I run. Simply, new users added to the system cannot log on to the PC's that are controlled from the Samba server's domain. Users that are already on the system and have been working for some time seem to be unaffected. I suspect that the problem may well be related to the 'minor' problem we experienced with the server the other

What to use for assignment, " = " or " <- "?
I've noticed an increasing tendency for people to use '=' rather than the older '<-' symbol. When '=' became available as an assignment operator in S-PLUS in the late '90s my first reaction was to switch to it as well. Brian Ripley warned me that it was not a good idea. As usual he was right, but it took a couple of pretty serious finger-burning episodes

Different users having same home/mail_location?
Hello, Will I be breaking something if I have two users share the same home and/or mail_location (maildir format) in dovecot? Mail will only be delivered to the primary user, the other would be used every now and then to login via imap (webmail). This would be on a CentOS 7 box running dovecot from the packaging system, i.e. dovecot-2.2.10-8.el7 currently. The reason I'd like to do this

[patch 00/54] [Announce] Microsoft Hyper-V drivers for Linux
Hi all, I'm happy to announce, that after many months of discussions, Microsoft has released their Hyper-V Linux drivers under the GPLv2. Following this message, will be the patches that add the drivers to the drivers/staging/ tree, and a whole bunch of cleanups. It's taken a long road to get here, and I'd like to thank the following people who made this possible: - Steve

asterisk-doc Conference Call - phase 2 :)
Thank you to everyone who has offered so far! I've had formal offers from Martin List-Peterson, William Suffil, Greg Varga, Brian Cuthie and Ed Guy (hopefully I haven't forgotten someone....!) Now we just have to decide where the best spot to host it is. What do you guys think? For this week, I don't care if this is a one off. At some point I'd like to have a weekly conference,

XP Joining domain
I'm attempting to join a Samba 3.0.4 domain on a Debian linux box, with a Windows XP client. Problems 1) Can only get the join to work if I use the root account. On Win2k I can use any account in the Domain Admins group. 2) The join succeeds, the unix account and the smb account are created but the smb account is disabled, and the password contains all XXXXs. Joining the domain works

Revision: post on Intro to R lecture
Hi All: This follows my earlier post on webized slides on lecture presentation on introducing R. I learned that in Mozilla (Firefox) browsers, the slides did not show up. Sorry for the no show. As a reluctant windows user, I kind of carelessly clicked through Powerpoint to convert the presentation file to its html form, unwittingly leading to the mess. See if it got corrected now (I do not have

Replication only working one way
Checking the databases against each other throws up pages and pages of errors. The two are completely out of sync now. What I have seen is that for no apparent reason, one of the servers suddenly decided it would sync with the Windows server, which appears to have updated the schema. Yesterday when I compared the databases on the two linux servers they only had a couple of errors, today, many

Dangling MS Access DB Lock Files *.ldb
I have an intermittent problem with dangling MS Access DB lock files. In a productive environment with N batch queus (each on a separate Windows XP Professional) a scheduler PC dispatches the work load to a free queue by means of modifying a simple MS Access DB file called "PRIM.mdb", which resides on a Samba 3.0.20 share. Each free queue PC polls the same MS Access DB file every 60

Would you switch jobs for the chance to use Textmate?
Lets say you had a pretty decent job, but your company mandated use of emacs. The poaching employer offers you a free copy of Textmate(tm). Would you jump ship solely in order to use Textmate at company B? Cheers, Dave -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

smbldap-useradd not creating machine accounts in correct fashion
Hi, I have OpenLDAP working here generally without problems for a variety of applications including the management of Samba. Functioning user accounts can be created via 'smbldap-useradd' with the proper samba attributes being added in LDAP, however... Something odd is happening when I (or samba) tries to create a machine account with 'smbldap-useradd -w test1$' - an entry is

self signing certificates
hi all, I have gone through the process of self signing certificates. Aside from the pop-ups about not trusted etc... everything appears to work. For "internal" applications what do people/places do? It would be nice to be seamless and have the "your not trusted" window pop-up. Yet this is not a public web site either. Just internal use. The server might be on the internet
