"Cut marks" on a plot's y-axis to indicate it is a truncated axis
Hi,
I've plotted a Kaplan-Meier curve but the curves only range from 0.7 to
1 on the y-axis. Therefore I have used: -
ylim=c(0.7,1)
[although I think convention dictates that you plot 0.5 to 1 to show the
median? A few papers I've read have done this]??
BUT, I would like a symbol like // (but rotated 90 degrees) to indicate
that the y-axis has been truncated. I'd need to be able to

Parametric survival models with left truncated, right censored data
Dear All,
I would like to fit some parametric survival models using left
truncated, right censored data in R. However I am having problems
finding a function to fit parametric survival models which can handle
left truncated data.
I have tested both the survreg function in package survival:
fit1 <- survreg(Surv(start, stop, status) ~ X + Y + Z, data=data1)
and the psm function in package

Matching patients
May I ask a clinical question? For a trial, we have a treatment group of small
size, say 30 patients. We want to selectmatching control patients from a bigger
group (100 patients) in terms of several clinical variables, such as age, tumor
stage etc. This practice is to select the closest matching set of control cases.
I wonder if R has any routine or package that can help with this problem.

RES: Barplot with "Independent" Lines Y axis
Oh sorry. An example say lots more than words. The data below, when
submitted to twoord.plot return the mentioned error. Rain are bars and Salt
lines, the bars appear and the error occurs with the salt data.

Putting 2 breaks on Y axis
R plotting experts:
I have a bivariate dataset composed of 300 (x,y) continuous datapoints.
297 of these points are located within the y range of [0,10], while 2
are located at 20 and one at 55. No coding errors, real outliers.
When plotting these data with a scatterplot, I obviously have a problem.
If I plot the full dataset with ylim = c(0,55), then I cannot see the
structure in the data in

How to make a break on y-axis of a histogram chart using R?
Attached is a histogram chart with a break on y-axis which my friend made
for me using phot shop. Do anyone know how to make such a break using R?
Thanks in advance.

Truncating y axis

How to plot 2 continous variables on double y-axis with 2 factors: ggplot2, gplot, lattice, sciplot?
Hi,
I have a data set with two continous variables that I want to plot MEANS (I
am not intrerested in median values) on a double-y graph. I also have 2
factors. I want the factor combinations plotted in different panes.
Dummy dataset:
mydata <- data.frame(factor1 = factor(rep(LETTERS[1:3], each = 40)),
factor2 = factor(rep(c(1:4), each = 10)),

how to separate char and num within a variable
Hi all,
I read in a column which looks like "chr1:000889594-000889638", and need to break them into three columns like "chr1:", "000889594" and "000889638". How shall I do in R. Thanks a lot for your suggestions!

scaling y-axis to relative frequency in multiple histogram (multhist)
Hi,
I'm plotting a multiple histogram using the function multhist {package
plotrix}, something like:
library(plotrix)
mh <- list(rnorm(200, mean=200, sd=50), rnorm(200, mean=250, sd=50))
multhist(mh)
In this graph y-axis represents the frequency of observations.... but I
would like it to be scaled into relative frequencies,
does anybody know how to do this with multhist or similar

Break in the y-axis
Hello all,
I have been having trouble getting a break in my y-axis. All of my data
points are up around 100-200, but the graph has to start at zero, so i would
like to remove all the white space using a break symbol. I have been able
to get the break and labels to be correct, however, I can't seem to get the
data to match the axis anymore. I must be using the axis.break() in plotrix

plot 2 y axis
Hi,
I want to plot two variables on the same graph but with two y axis just
like what you can do in Excel. I searched online that seems like you can
not achieve that in ggplot. So is there anyway I can do it in a nice way in
basic plot?
Suppose my data looks like this:
Weight Height Date
0.1 0.3 1
0.2 0.4 2
0.3 0.8 3
0.6 1

How to control number of significant digits (figures) in y-axis?
Dear R users,
I encounter a problem regarding number of significant digits on y-axis.
Below is my basic code:

auto.key=list(space="right"),layout=c(9,1),xlab="",ylab="Offspring number",
aspect="fill",scales=list(x=list(draw=F)),strip=T)

plot, y-axis, uneven scale???
Hello,
I have a question about the y-axis of plots. Actually I had about 60
values. About 80 percent of these values are less than 0.2, then the other
20 percent values are more than 4,max is 10. So when I plot these values
together, the y-axis's range will go 0 to 10, and my major values (80%
values <0.2) will be pressed around 0 on the bottom, while other several
dots will scatter in

Lattice: distance of Y-axis label from plot

case, I would like to move the Y axis title closer to the plot.

interrupted Y axis
I did not find an answer to my question after a quick
search using the R
search engine so thought I'd ask away:
Does any know if there's a function exists to create
an interrupted Y axis?
What I mean by interrupted Y axis is that part of the
Y axis has been
removed or excised to permit one to see parts of the
data in more detail.
Perhaps an example will make this clear. Please go to
