horizontal violin plots?
I am trying to make horizontal violin plots. I have tried both vioplot
and simple.violinplot, but both of them seem to not be willing to take
the horizontal option. Is this correct, or am I just bungling it
somehow?
For instance, for vioplot (from the example shown, with the horizontal
modification):
> vioplot(bimodal,uniform,normal, horizontal=TRUE)
Error in median(data) : need numeric data

A plot similar to violin plot
Dear R Users,
I would like to know is there any package to create a plot like this?
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5409929/cs1160521f01.gif
X axis is categorical. And the positions of the points are
corresponding to the frequency. (similar to violinplot)
Thank you.

Time Series of Histograms
Dear List,
I have a set of distributions recorded at an equal interval of time and I would like to plot them as series of horizontal histograms (with the x-axis representing time, and y-axis representing the bins) since the distribution shifts from unimodal to multimodal in several occasions. What I would like to see is something close to a violinplot, but I do not want a kernel density

R plot
All -
When I plot something like
a<-rnorm(5)
b<-rnorm(5)
plot(a,b,col = "red")
points(10,-10)
The last point is missing because it is out of
range of the first plot.
I just try to switch from Matlab to R. In Matlab,
it always can automatic adjust the xlim and ylim
for such case.
Is it possible auto adjust in R? Otherwise
keep tracking xlim and ylim is really annoying.

How to calculate GLM least square means?
Hello R-helpers,
I would like to calculate least square means after having built a GLM with
quasipoisson errors.
In my model the dependent variable is continuous, I have one continuous
independent variable and one categorical independent variable (that is the
variable for which I would like to calculate the least square means).
I've looked around for the command to calculate the least

VEC Operator in R
Can anyone please tell whether there is any R function to act as "VEC" and
"VECH" operator on Matrix? Yes of course, I can write a
user-defined-function for that or else, I can put dim(mat) <- NULL. However
I am looking for some R function.
Your help will be highly appreciated.

More detail in chart axis?
Hi,
I have a series of data (about 80,000 pairs of x,y).
Plotting it shows a great chart. However, R has randomly chosen about 6
labels for my x axis. Now, clearly I can't show them all, but would
like some control over the granularity of what is displayed. I can't
find anything in the documentation about controlling the axis data
labels. Is there a way?
Alternately, is there a

Changing axis scale
Hello R users,
Is it possible after making a plot(x,y) to change axis scale?
For example : I have a range of 0 to 3000 in my y-axis and I want to make a
zoom between 2000 and 3000.
Thanks for any help.

simpleR or usingR package by Verzani
I am a new R user and so I thought I could start with "Using R for
Introductory statistics" by Verzani.
In order to use some of the functions and datasets I have to install the
simpleR package which is is now inside the UsingR package. I did so
using
>install.packages("UsingR"). However, the functions such as
"simple.freqpoly.R" do not work.
I also tried to

Zoomable graphs with multiple plots
Hi folks,
I was wondering if anyone could confirm/deny whether there exists any
kind of package to facilitate zoomable graphs with multiple plots (eg,
plot(..) and then points(..)). I've tried zoom from IDPmisc, and
iplot from the iplot and iplot extreme packages, but as far I can
tell, neither can handle the task.
Does anyone know anything else that might work? Or generally know

Looking for parallel functionality between Matlab and R
I'm slowly moving my statistical analysis from Matlab to R, and find myself
missing two features:
a) How do I mimic Matlab's 'hold on'? (I want to show several plots
together, when I type two plots one after the other the second overwrites
the first)
b) How do I mimic Matlab's 'axis'? (after drawing my plots I want to zoom on
specific parts- for example, x=0:5,

SimpleR and UsingR
Having found the online version of SimpleR, I wanted to to download the
respective data:
"The data sets for these notes are available from the CSI math
department (http://www.math.csi.cuny.edu/Statistics/R/simpleR)
and must be installed prior to this."
There it says:
"The simpleR package is now inside the UsingR package available from

Removing a list of Objects
Hi,
I have a simple beginner's question on removing a list of
objects. Say I have objects C243.Daily1, C243.Daily2...C243.Daily5 in my
workspace. I'd like to remove these without using rm five times.
So I write.
> a <- list(paste("C243.Daily",sep="",1:5))
> rm(a)
Obviously this wouldn't work, as it would only remove the object a.
But is there any way

installing the Simple package
I'm using Verzani's "Using R for Introductory Statistics" to teach a
Research Methods in Psych course, and it recommends simple.median.test() for
sign tests, which is in the Simple package--but nowhere I can find has ever
heard of the Simple package! Anybody ever heard of this function or this
package?
cheers,
