error in a abline loop
Hello I have data of body length and body weight of people of different skin colors. I tried to write a code to plot body length and body weight according to the skin colors. (Thanks for Petr's advice so far.) A loop is used but an error shows up in the following code. It says: unexpected '}' in "

help with plotting lines linking two sets of points?
Hello everyone, I'm trying to plot the initial and final size of some tadpoles and look at their growth rates (slope of line). They are divided into 6 densities, and so far I have plotted the initial and final sizes (these are means for a pool), and color coded for the 6 densities, but I want a line to connect the initial and final value for each pool (also color coded by density). Any ideas?

Significance of interaction depends on factor reference level - lmer/AIC model averaging
Dear R users, I am using lmer combined with AIC model selection and averaging (in the MuMIn package) to try and assess how isotope values (which indicate diet) vary within a population of animals. I have multiple measures from individuals (variable 'Tattoo') and multiple individuals within social groups within 4 locations (A, B, C ,D) crucially I am interested if there are

LocalCommand problem for tunneling on Linux
I've been testing tunneling on Linux with openssh-SNAP-20060116.tar.gz and found a problem. When I use LocalCommand for doing ifconfig stuff, the command line was executed before a tunneling interface is opened. This causes errors on Linux and the interface is not automatically set up. This is not a problem on *BSD because you can do ifconfig for unopened tun/tap interfaces. But in Linux,

add categorical labels in plot
Hello I want to draw a plot using the code below. Further, I want to add labels (White, Yellow, Red) to x-axis. Please kindly advise how to add the categorical labels, by modifying the code. Thank you. Elaine Code dataN <-read.csv("H:/skin_color.csv",header=T, row.names=1) dim(dataN) dataN[1,] str(dataN) obs.group<-dataN$skin_color

NFS via VPN stuck after a certain amount of transfer
Hello, I'm testing NFS via VPN on openssh-4.3p2 and experienced occational glitches. When I tried to copy a huge directory, sometimes the VPN connection was stuck and the tun interface stopped responding. The underlying network connection was still alive. When I quit the client and reconnect, it starts working again. More concretely, I made a connection from a Linux box to a FreeBSD box

extracting the names of the dataframe and variables in aov or lm
Dear R Users, I want to write a function that applies to the dataframe and variables that were used in a previous call to lm or aov. In order to do this, I need to write a function that applies to the output of lm or aov, and yields the names of the dataframe and variables that were used in the lm or aov analysis. For example, suppose that I give the command: aov.out <- aov( Rt ~

Use less instead of more
Hello, I would like to use "less" as pager instead of the default, "more". So I edited RHOME/bin/pager so that I can use less. Is it all right? Correct Interpretation of survreg() coeffs
Am I correct in assuming that the output below essentially translates to "Males have a mean time that is significantly lower than Females"? Is this the correct way to interpret the fact that the coefficient is negative? Assume the variale sex is treated as a factor with Female =0 and Male=1. survmodel<-survreg(survobj~sex,data=data1, dist="weibull")

help overlay scatterplot to effects plot
I have a process where I am creating a effects plot similar to the cowles effect example. I would like to add the point estimates to the effects plot, can someone show me the correct syntax. I have included the "R" effects example, so you can show me the correct syntax. Thanks mod.cowles <- glm(volunteer ~ sex + neuroticism*extraversion, data=Cowles, family=binomial)

multiple instances of NSD
I'm trying to set up a machine which will be running multiple instances of NSD to serve different sets of zones from different interfaces. What I'm running into is that I can't specify different PID files to refer to on the command line. Are there any shortcuts or do I need to go write a patch? Any other implications of multiple instances? --

How to produce glm graph
I'm very new to R and modeling but need some help with visualization of glms. I'd like to make a graph of my glms to visualize the different effects of different parameters. I've got a binary response variable (bird sightings) and use binomial glms. The 'main' response variable is a measure of distance to a track and the parameters I'm testing for are vegetation parameters

Questing on fitting Baseline category Logit model
Dear all, I am facing some problem with how to fit a "Baseline category Logit model" with R. Basically I am considering famous "Alligator" data as discussed by Agresti. This data can also be found here: https://onlinecourses.science.psu.edu/stat504/node/174 (there is also an accompanying R file, however the underlying R code could not load the data properly!!!) Summarizing dummy coefficients in sem package
Greetings, I am working in the sem package on a model with 3 exogenous variables (2 are nominal-categorical), and 4 endogenous, continuous variables. To use sem with the nominal variables, I created dummy variables. Now, in my sem output I have estimates for path coefficients for the relationship between each level of the nominal variables and the endogenous variables they are associated

A patch for boxplot.R
[this was sent to R-help-owner instead of R-help. why on earth ??!???!? well, I took the liberty to cut the long citation.. MM] Dear Yusuke These changes look interesting. Have you considered being able to specify a different shading or crosshatching for each box. I can't see how you can do this at present. You can get different colours but of course this is no good for black

coxme and random factors
Hi I would really appreciate some help with my code for coxme... My data set I'm interested in survival of animals after an experiment with 4 treatments, which was performed on males and females. I also have two random factors: Response variable: survival (death) Factor 1: treatment (4 levels) Factor 2: sex (male / female) Random effects 1: person nested within day (2 people did

two-group comparison in boxplot
Hello I have a data composing three columns: body weight, body length, and sex. I want to draw a box plot, X-axis for body weight, Y-axis for body length. In the boxplot, I want to compare the body length between two sexes of three groups of body weight: <50, 51-100, >101 kg. (For instance, from left to right, the first boxplot: sex =1, body weight <50 the second boxplot: sex

How to optimize or build a better random forest?
Hello Everyone! It's been a while since I last posted a question! Hope everyone has been doing well! ~~~ CONTEXT ~~~ I have recently entered a beginner-level competition on kaggle. The goal of the competition is to build a model that predicts who did/did not survive on the Titanic. I decided to use random forests as I have been wanting to learn the algorithm and the competition

Trying to do windows encoding dll
Hi everybody, me again. I'm trying to write my own VFW-like dll... It doesn't need to do much. 1.) compress a single frame and give it back to the host application 2.) host applications sends the frame 3.) client application receives frame 4.) client application tells the dll to decompress the data So if I try to do this, something is going wrong... Perhaps someone could have a look at my
