[LLVMdev] [cfe-dev] RFC: A Great Renaming of Things (or: Let's Repaint ALL the Bikesheds!)
Hi there.
What about repainting the top-level bike-shed - the build system itself?
I've got a framework called "v3c" in SourceForge that has a top-level
makefile.
From that makefile you can just do "make" to build it with debug
information,
"make release" for a release build,
"make -j7 distcheck" to throw a few cores at the build,
"make -j7 git

Question about GUI processing order
I am developing a GUI with WxRuby (wxruby-1.9.1-i386-mswin32, ruby-1.8.6).
In one of my button event handlers I do the following in this order:
set the value of a TextCtrl,
show a button (which was hidden),
hide the button that was caused this event
play some sounds (using Sound.play)
What I observe is that all these things happen, but not in the order I
specified. Hiding the button occurs

Windows BMPs: Why grey background? How to display BMP in R?
"white" is supposed to be the default background for BMPs (according to
?bmp) but it doesn't work

# results in grey background
# This seems to be a good enough workaround for now.

Screensaver flashing instead of normal function
I rebooted my machine this morning and now instead of running normally, my
GLMatrix screen saver flashes as it repaints the screen, more and more
noticeably as the screen fills up with glyphs. I didn't change ANYTHING and
this was not happening before the boot.
Anyone have any ideas why this might be?
Thanks.

New version of X11, png and jpeg
R-devel has new versions of the X11(), png() and jpeg() devices on
Unix-alikes. The intention is that these are used identically to the
previous versions (which remain available) but will produce higher-quality
output with more features.
Pros:
Antialiasing of text and lines (can be turned off) but no blurring of
fills.
Buffering of the X11 display and fast repainting from a backing image.

[PATCH] Rendering: swap buffers and copy only needed parts
Hi,
I've been experiencing serious tearing in compiz when screen is painted only
partly. Either "Sync To Vblank" option in compiz doesn't work or copying
repainted parts from backbuffer to frontbuffer is too slow. And since many
people rely on driver's implementation of Sync to Vblank, it would be optimal
to always use glXSwapBuffers. This can be accomplished via keeping

Foobar2000 audio player Regression
Foobar2000 worked virtually perfectly in the 20041021
release (aside from some comctrl32 repainting issues
-- which native comctrl32.dll fixed), but in 20041201
it is completely unuseable. Two major problems:
1) The toolbars are completely gone. They are sort-of
displayed when they get activity via mouse-press or
whatever, but they do not repaint correctly at all.
See this screenshot for details:

Popup dialogs
Howdy,
Prior to the major X11 changes of June, popup dialogs were nice and fast
(as they should be). Since the X11 changes, the popup dialogs are very
slow; 1-2 seconds to destroy one and pop up another on a 700MHz Athlon.
Actually, all window creation is much slower, but I really notice it on
the popup dialogs (because I use them a lot). Once the windows are open,
speed seems to be quite

Unminimize / Repaint problem
Can anyone confirm/reproduce this (with Wine 0.9.58 and Gnome 2.20) ?
Start gnome terminal.
$ regedit
Click window Minimize button.
Repeatedly click Gnome taskbar button "Registry", and unminimized regedit window intermittently fails to paint.
I am getting similar repaint issues with various other programs too.

MacOS X Quartz Rendering?
I just tried rendering a plot of 166 data point (time series) on my PPC mac,
and compared it with the same data rendered by Mathematica. The R plotting is
very slow to paint and repaint, compared to Mathematica. This also makes it
extremely awkward to use in other documentation such as pdfLatex.
On closer inspection, it looks like the Mathematica plot is just a polyline,
while in R it is a

CentOS 4.4 on mini-itx
Hi,
I have a EPIA mini-itx board that I have been running Fedora 4 on. I want to
install CentOS 4.4 on it since FC4 is no longer supported. The install goes fine
but when I reboot the machine after the install I get errors like the following:
hda:<4>hda: dma_timer_Expiry : dma status == 0x21
There are other errors about not being able to access the disk and eventually
the kernel panics.

New X crappy for older stuff?
While burning in a new desktop Epox KT-880 workstation, I'm running on
my old K6-III at 360MHz. Before new X updates (put everything in today,
kernel, elfutils, ntpd - Selinux issues? - xorg, ...) with my PCI ATI
7000 (Radeon) on a 19" Samsung 950b @ 1024x768 (one of 5 different
resolutions I commonly use), I could scroll smoothly at reasonable
rates.
With the new stuff I get severe

WinXP exhibits sluggish graphics window movement & mouse tracking (repainting?) over windows graphics devices
I just noticed when using 2.6.1, 2.6.2 (2008-02-08), 2.6.2pat

mouse cursor appears to be redrawn more sluggishly when the pointer is
over R windows graphics devices than over the R console window or
other applications' windows. The slowdown seems to start only

Dynamic resize of drawing canvas and FXImage
How can I use the drawing canvas and its off-screen image buffer, say
FXImage, to dynamically resize or have its width and height attributes
changed in reply to user interaction with the main window (FXMainWindow)?
It seems that whem I put initial values to W and H of the canvas or FXImage,
they remain with its initial values no matter what I do whem resizing the
main window.

Problem with PaintDC(MSW)
When implementing EVT_PAINT handlers in c++ the PaintDC object is
constructed at the beginning of the function,
and auto destructed at it''s end, which informs wxwidgets that "invalid
regions in the window have been repainted".
Under ruby, this is not the case and causes a stream of EVT_PAINT events
to be sent to the given window (until one
of PaintDC objects is destructed by
