Problem accessing .Rdata objects in a loop
Hi, I am trying to access many .Rdata objects and do some operations with them using a loop. I can load the files but can't access them. The files' names are stored in a character vector called "names". After loading the objects, I can view each one using ls() and see that two objects are present for each. I am trying to access the one with the name which is the same as the

Best way/practice to create a new data frame from two given ones with last column computed from the two data frames?
Dear expeRts, What is the best approach to create a third data frame from two given ones, when the new/third data frame has last column computed from the last columns of the two given data frames? ## Okay, sounds complicated, so here is an example. Assume we have the two data frames: df1 <- data.frame(Year=rep(2001:2010, each=2), Group=c("Group 1","Group 2"), Value=1:20)

rbind: inconsistent behaviour with empty data frames?
The rbind on empty and nonempty data frames behaves inconsistently. I am not sure if by design. In the first example, first row is deleted, which may or may not be on purpose: df1 <- data.frame() df2 <- data.frame(foo=c(1, 2), bar=c("a", "b")) rbind(df1, df2) foo bar 2 2 b Now if we continue: df1 <- data.frame(matrix(0, 0, 2)) names(df1) <- names(df2)

Conditional operation on multiple columns from two data frames
Hi- I have two data frames for which I wish to conditionally subtract the values of one dataframe from the other. I want to subtract df1$x from df2$x when their id is equal and the absolute value of difference between the dates is 12 hours or less. If there is no match of equal id's and dates less than 12 hours apart I want it to return "NA". Note that df1 has missing values in x

Subassignments involving NAs in data frames
I'm seeing some inconsistent behavior when re-assigning values in a data frame. The first assignment turns all of the 0s in my data frame to 2s, the second fails to do so. > df1 <- data.frame(a = c(NA, 0, 3, 4)) > df2 <- data.frame(a = c(NA, 0, 0, 4)) > df1[df1 == 0] <- 2 ## Works > df2[df2 == 0] <- 2 Error: NAs are not allowed in subscripted assignments Checking an

a newbie seeking for a simple problem
Dear Experienced R users, I have a looks-like simple but complicated problem urgently needed to be solved. Below is the detail: I have two dataframes, df1, df2. df1 contains two column and many thousands rows: column 1 is a "gene_name", column 2 is "value". df2 contains only one column which is "gene_name" with couple hundred rows. I want to change "value"

covariance matrix: a erro and simple mixed model question, but id not know answer sorry
Dear list I need your help: Execuse me for my limited R knowledge. #example data set set.seed (134) lm=c(1:4) block = c(rep(lm,6)) gen <- c(rep(1, 4), rep(2, 4), rep(3, 4), rep(4, 4),rep(5, 4),rep(6, 4)) X1 = c( rnorm (4, 10, 4), rnorm (4, 12, 6), rnorm (4, 10, 7),rnorm (4, 5, 2), rnorm (4, 8, 4), rnorm (4,7, 2)) X2 = X1 + rnorm(length(X1), 0,3) yvar <- c(X1, X2) X <- c(rep( 1,

assignment operator saving factor level as number
Hi all, I have a dataframe (df1) that I am trying to select values from to a second dataframe that at the current time is only for the selected items from df1 (df2). The values that I am trying to save from df1 are factors with alphanumeric names df1 looks like this: 'data.frame': 3014 obs. of 13 variables: $ Num : int 1 1 1 2 2 2 3 3 3 4 ... $ Tag_Num : int 1195

vertically concatenating data frames
Hi, what is the recommended way to vertically concatenate 2 data frames with the same column names but different number of rows? My problem is something along these lines: df1 <- data.frame(var1=var1,var2=var2,var3=var3) # nrow(df1)=1000 df2 <- data.frame(var1=var4,var2=var5,var3=var6) # nrow(df2)=2000 I tried df <- c(df1,df2), no success. stack does not seem to be appropriate

difference of two data frames
Hello I have 2 data frames DF1 and DF2 where DF2 is a subset of DF1: DF1= data.frame(V1=1:6, V2= letters[1:6]) DF2= data.frame(V1=1:3, V2= letters[1:3]) How do I create a new data frame of the difference between DF1 and DF2 newDF=data.frame(V1=4:6, V2= letters[4:6]) In my real data, the rows are not in order as in the example I provided. Thanks much Joseph [[alternative HTML version

merging data frames with matrix objects when missing cases
Hi, I have faced a problem with the merge() function when trying to merge two data frames that have a common index but the second one does not have cases for all indexes in the first one. With usual variables R fills in the missing cases with NA if all=T is requested. But if the variable is a matrix R seems to insert NA only to the first column of the matrix and fill in the rest of the columns by

problems saving and loading (PLMset) objects
Hi I'm running the latest R on a presumably up to date Linux server. 'Doing something silly I'm sure, but can't see why my saved PLMset objects come out all wrong. To use an example: Setting up an example PLMset (I have the same problem no matter what example I use) > library(affyPLM) > data(Dilution) # affybatch object > Dilution = updateObject(Dilution)

operations between two aggregated data frames?
Hi All, I've come up with a solution for this problem that relies on a for loop, and I was wondering if anybody had any insight into a more elegant method: I have two data frames, each has a column for categorical data and a column for date. What I'd like to do, ideally, is calculate the number of days between all pairs of dates in data frame 1 and data frame 2 (*but only for members

duplicate data between two data frames according to row names
Hi everybody. I'll first explain my problem and what I'm trying to do. Admit this example: I'm working on 5 different weather stations. I have first in one file 3 of these 5 weather stations, containing their data. Here's an example of this file: DF1 <- data.frame(station=c("ST001","ST004","ST005"),data=c(5,2,8)) And my two other stations in

Merge two data frames and find common values and non-matching values
Hi, I am trying to find a function to match two data frames of different lengths for one field only. So, for example, df1 is: Name Position location francesca A 75 cristina B 36 And df2 is: location Country 75 UK 56 Austria And I would like to match on "Location" and the output to be something like: Name Position Location Match francesca A 75 1 cristina B 36 0 I have tried with

How to intantiate a list of data.frames?
Hello, I am newbie to R and I want to do this: for(i in 1:6) { ds[i] <- list(df=data.frame(oilDF[,1],oilDF[,i+2]), df2=data.frame(oilDF2[,1],oilDF2[,i+2])) } #oilDF and oilDF2 are 2 data frames with several columns. They have different number of rows #I want to have for example ds[1]$df, ds[1]$df2 with the respective data.frames. #How can I instantiate a list of data.frames pairs

Adding data.frames together
I have a series of data frames that are identical structurally, i.e. - made with the same code, but I need to add them together so that they become one, longer, data frame, i.e. - each of the slot vectors are increased in length by the length of the added data frame vectors. So if I have df1 with a slot A so that length(df1$A) = 100 and I have df2 with a slot A so that length(df2$A)=200 then I

Building a package with an existing dll
I have setup a package directory structure with all the relevent files in the src, R, man and data directories. Also have the correct DESCRIPTION and NAMESPACE files in the root directory. I don't wisk to recompile the .dll file in the src directory as it currently works fine if I locate it in the same workdirectory as my R source code that calls it. This is a little tedious having to move

RData loading weirdness
I've just had an interesting thing happen to one of our students. He's using R 1.9.1 on Linux, and so I dont expect bugfixes, I'm just reporting this out of interest in case anyone else has had this happen. Starting R caused a seg fault shortly after "[Previously saved workspace restored]". Running "R --no-restore-data" worked fine so I suspected a corrupted
