tcltk window freezes when using locator( )
Hello useRs Using the following code: library(tcltk) win<-tktoplevel() ff<-function(){ plot(1:10,1:10) pol<-locator(1) print(pol) } button<-tkbutton(win,text="test",command=ff) tkpack(button) makes the win panel stop responding when the plot is closed before choosing a location. Usually, the windows task manager has to be used to

Testing for empty result of which
Hello R users When using the function which to get matches, I usually do w<-which(x==y) length(w)==0 to determine if there are matches or not. Is there a base function that can do the thing more directly by returning a logical value if the result of which is empty or not? Thanks Francois Rousseu [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

strwidth and strheight for rotated text
Dear All, I would like to plot text with a box around it. I used strwidth and strheight to compute the size of the box which is plotted with rect: z <- rnorm(10) # horizontal text works plot(rnorm(10)) x1 <- 5 y1 <- 0 label <- "Label" cha <- paste(" ", label, " ", sep = "") xh <- strwidth(cha, cex = par("cex")) yh <-

Building package/DESCRIPTION file not existing?
Hello useRs I am trying to build a package for personal use and for making easier working with other people but I keep getting the same error message about the DESCRIPTION file not existing. when trying to install from a source tar.gz file: Error in .read_description(dfile) : file 'C:/Users/PropriƩtaire/AppData/Local/Temp/RtmpHFMONb/R.INSTALL647a3535/mypkg/DESCRIPTION' does not

Wishlist: strwidth allow for rotation of text (PR#7931)
Hi, This is not a bug, but an enhancement suggestion. "strwidth" only gives the width of the text according to the x-axis user coordinates, and similarly for "strheight". Even if the par setting "srt" is changed to rotate the text, the resulting width (resp. height) is in terms of the non-rotated text. Currently, if I want to know how much space to leave for

text at the upper left corner outside of the plot region
Hi, is there a way to place text at the upper left corner (or another corner) of the plot? I want to place it really at the upper left corner of the whole plot (the file I get), not at the upper left corner of the plot-region. I tried text() and mtext(), and corner.label() of the plotrix package but it didn't work out. thanks!

Getting the list of lines evaluated in a function call
Hello useRs I am looking for a function that can give the list of lines that were evaluated or used to generatethe last output from any function, whether an error message was generated or not. For example, let's say I have a function like this: foo <- function( x ){ if( x>10 ){ ans <- x+100

Text in Boxes?
It's probably a beginner's question: How do I show text in boxes? That is, can I specify a background color for text output with text() ? The following doesn't work as I would expect: text(labels="123", 50, 0.5, bg="green") I've experimented with legend(),which will make the box too wide, and also with rect(), which doesn't know the extent of the text

naming vectors
Hello R users I was trying to find a less annoying way of naming vectors than: x<-1:10 names(x)[1:length(x)]<-"A" So I tried: x<-1:10 names(x)<-"A" #but this gave only the first element named (as described in the help files) and x<-1:10 names(x)[]<-"A" #but this gave all elements named NA The curious thing with this last option is

Text position in Traditional Graphics
R 2.4.1 on Windows XP. Question: In traditional graphics, is it possible to find out the height of a line of text in units that can be used in arithmetic and then in calls to text()? Context: I have written a function that draws a plot and then, depending on whether some arguments are TRUE or FALSE, draws various lines of text in the plot. The text lines may be turned on or off individually

Barplot+Table
I am trying to automate a report that my company does every couple of years for the state of Maine. In the past we have used SPSS to run the data and then used complicated Excel template to make the tables/graphics which we then imported into Word. Since there are 256 tables/graphics for this report, this work flow is a little painful. I would like to automate the process and I think I can do

legend in R plot
Hi all, I am have some difficulty with the legend function. I need to add a legend to describe the different line types in a plot. The legend box is small. It did not include sufficient length of each line type to help distinguish the differnt line types. Is there a way to fix this. Thank you Hannah [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

How to get legend outside of plot?
I am creating a CDF plot function more user-friendly than any default r function. Depending upon the bimodality of the data (it is often bimodal), or any other strange data trends, the points can end up gathering in just about any corner of the plot. So, when I add a legend, whether I choose to add it in the bottom right, top left, or wherever, it will sometimes end up putting the legend right

Automatically adjust text size in plot
Hi all, I'm writing a function that will automatically generate a report based on answers to a questionnaire. The exact questions and answers to the questionnaire can vary. One of the question types is in a "matrix" format, where the agreement to several statements can be indicated on a scale. I'm planning to plot this on a multilevel barplot, and only labeling each "bar

text bubble (rectangle)?
Dear R wizards: sorry to bug everyone twice in one day. I would like to annotate my graph by putting text strings into rectangle boxes with a little cartoon-like bubble with a lid pointing to a specific location. I can draw some sort of bubble-with-lid using the R primitives. (has anyone done something like this already?) the problem where I am stuck is that the width of the rectangle must
