Calculate monthly means
I am trying to calculate monthly means by year of phosphates and nitrates from a multi year data set. Can anybody help me out with the most effective way to do this? My data looks like this: Collection_Date                   Test.Name              Value 2000-01-24 17:00:00            Phosphate               0.108 2000-01-24 17:00:00            Nitrate                     0.037 2001-11-12

Problem with Slope.test function
Hi all, I need to test the significnce of difference between slopes of two regression lines and regression line with theoretical line. I try to use Slope.test function from emu package, but an error occured... library(emu) d1<-data.frame(P1=c(1,2,3,5,7,8,9,13,14,15), P2=c(1,2,5,8,11,13,15,15,18,24), R=c(2,7,8,9,16,21,27,31,33,36)) # First data set m1<-lm(R~P1+P2+P1*P2,data=d1) # Regr.

iterated lapply
Hi everybody, with the following code I generate a list of functions. Each function reflects a "condition". When I evaluate this list of functions by another lapply/sapply, I get an unexpected result: all values coincide. However, when I uncomment the print(), it works as expected. Is this a bug or a feature? conditions <- 1:4 test <- lapply(conditions, function(mycondition){

iterated lapply
Would introducing the new frame, with the call to local(), cause problems when you use frame counting instead of <<- to modify variables outside the scope of lapply's FUN, I think the frame counts may have to change. E.g., here is code from actuar::simul() that might be affected: x <- unlist(lapply(nodes[[i]], seq)) lapply(nodes[(i + 1):(nlevels - 1)],

precompiled ode with spline input
I tried to use lsode with precompiled C code instead of an R function defining the derivatives. No problem so far. However, now I need to implement an ODE that contains spline functions, i.e. the derivatives at given time points depend on the value of a spline function at this time point. What is an efficient way to implement this in precompiled C code? -- Daniel Kaschek <daniel.kaschek at

wrong calculation of R-squared in summary.lm
Dear all, I just stumbled upon the fact, that when I perform a regression on multivariate responses, that are not centred, I get a ricilulously high R-squared value. After reading the code of summary.lm, I found a bug in the function summary.lm: mss is calculated by: mss <-sum((f - mean(f))^2) - where f are the fitted values. This works only for a single response variable, because

Cross-checking a custom function for separability indices
Hi list! I have prepared a custom function (below) in order to calculate separability indices (Divergence, Bhattacharyya, Jeffries-Matusita, Transformed divergene) between two samples of (spectral land cover) classes. I need help to cross-compare results to verify that it works as expected (since I don't know of any other foss-tool that will give me quickly some results). Does anybody

Multiple CPU HowTo in Linux?
Hello all, I upgraded my R workstation, and to my dismay, only one core appears to be used during intensive computation of a bioconductor function. What I have now is two dual-core Xeon 5160 CPUs and 10 GB RAM. When I fully load it, top reports about 25% user, 75% idle and 0.98 short-term load. The archives gave nothing helpful besides mention of snow. I thought of posting to HPC, but this system

C_LogLin (stats/loglin)
Hi everyone, I have a question regarding a C function of the "stats" package in R. I tried to understand the ?loglin? basic function of the ?stats? package implemented in R. The implemented function itself runs without any problem (perhaps see sample). When I ran it line by line it stopped at the lines 23-24 of the loglin-function; (the following line): z <- .Call(C_LogLin,

ANOVA between & within variance
hi, is there an option to calculate the 'within' & 'between' group variances for a simple ANOVA (aov) model (2 groups, 1 trait, normally distr.) ? or do I have to calculate them from the Sum Sq ? thanks for your time and greetings, gregor -- Gregor Rolshausen PhD Student; University of Freiburg, Germany e-mail: gregor.rolshausen at biologie.uni-freiburg.de tel. :

A question about stepwise procedures: step function
Dear all, I tried to use "step" function to do model selection, but I got an error massage. What I don't understand is that data as data.frame worked well for my other programs, how come I cannot make it run this time. Could you please tell me how I can fix it? ***************************************************************************************************

Unknown internal error
Hello, I just found this message in our dovecot logfiles: "Disconnected: BUG: Unknown internal error" Should I worry about this ? There are no complaints yet (although it is not limited to one user). It seems to occur with different clients (Apple/MacOS mail, Windows/Thunderbird, Pine). We're running dovecot 1.0.10 on Solaris 10 with mboxes (NFS) and local index storage. There are

svm regression in R
Hallo, I have a question concerning SVM regression in R. I intend to use SVMs for feature selection (and knowledge discovery). For this purpose I will need to extract the weights that are associated with my features. I understand from a previous thread on SVM classification, that predictive models can be derived from SVs, coefficiants and rhos, but it is unclear for me how to transfer this

How to reuse my self function?
Dear all, I wrote a function test1 in test1.R. Right, I am writing another function test2 on test2.R and trying to use test1 function. How can I do? Is there any similar way like including test1.R in test2.R file? Thank You Very Much. LLVM FunctionType cannot be returned as VectorType?
Hi Joshua, Thanks for your great comment. I made up a ConstantVector in IR. Then I successfully use AVX intrinsics to retrieve the returned vector data. The remaining thing is that how to pass the vectors to LLVM function using intrinsics. Do you have any suggestions? Please forgive me if the question is too naive. I pasted below two IR I used. The first one works. The second one doesn't.

multiple plots in a function()
Dear all, I have the following problem: I have written a function genereating to plots, eg myfunction <- (data, some.parameters) { #some calculations etc . par (mfrow=c(1,2)) plot1(......) plot2(.....) } which works fine. But for analysing several variants, I tried a slope, eg: par (mfrow=c(5,5)) for ( i in 1:10) { myfunction(data, i) } Off
