Help Need with aov()
Hi there, I'm using R1.0.1 Windows 98. This file contains some inputs and an aov function code. Can someone check it for me? Somehow I got completely different answer when typing them in R and in Splus. Splus gives me this: > summary( Turnip.aov ) Error: Blocks Df Sum of Sq Mean Sq F Value Pr(F) Residuals 3 163.7367 54.57891 Error: Plots %in% Blocks

lme( y ~ ns(x, df=splineDF)) error
I would like to fit regression models of the form y ~ ns(x, df=splineDF) where splineDF is passed as an argument to a wrapper function. This works fine if the regression function is lm(). But with lme(), I get two different errors, depending on how I handle splineDF inside the wrapper function. A workaround is to turn the lme() command, along with the appropriate value of splineDF, into a text

lme: null deviance, deviance due to the random effects, residual deviance
A maybe trivial and stupid question: In the case of a lm or glm fit, it is quite informative (to me) to have a look to the null deviance and the residual deviance of a model. This is generally provided in the print method or the summary, eg: Null Deviance: 658.8 Residual Deviance: 507.3 and (a bit simpled minded) I like to think that the proportion of deviance 'explained' by the

contrasts with an imbalance in a factor
Hi everybody, I have an experiment examining risky choice behavior where two groups of subjects were unevenly divided across two different MRI scanners while they performed a task. Each subject's data was recorded once and only once on a particular scanner. The table describing the distribution of subjects across the scanner (3TE and 3TW) and groups is below. 3TE 3TW Group1 10

Error in eval when using contrast and nlme
Hi everybody, I've written a function to run an LME model on data derived from functional magnetic resonance images. When I run the function with contrasts included I get the following error Error in eval(expr, envir, enclos) : object 'inModelFormula' not found I think it has something do do with the way contrast evaluates arguments, but I've got no idea how to fix it. The code

using metafor for meta-analysis of before-after studies
Hello, Dr. Viechtbauer. I am trying to perform a meta-analyis on a group of before-after studies using Metafor. I read your webpage including your correspondence with Dr. Dewey (https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-help/2012-April/308946.html), who also conducted a similar study. These information is very hepful, but I have one additonal question which I wonder if you can give me some instruction.

problem in simple saving and loading data frames
Dear all My dataframe has > 80,000 variables which I can not everytime load into R using *.txt files (read.table option), cost me time and sometime computer decomes not responsive. So I need a way to save my dataframe in my workdirectory as such. Execuse me if the problem is too simple. I tried the following, I do not know what is wrong with it: Example data: x <- 1:10 y <- 21:30 z

R-alpha: keep.order in formulae
[ I'm teaching log-linear models at present, and looking at Agresti's book. ] Often when producing analyis of variance or analysis of deviance tables it is important to get effects fitted in a specific order. At present in S / R this is done as follows: anova( glm( terms(formula, keep.order=T), ...) ) Can anyone think of a reason why keep.order should not become an argument to

help need on working in subset within a dataframe
Dear R-experts Execuse me for an easy question, but I need help, sorry for that. >From days I have been working with a large dataset, where operations are needed within a component of dataset. Here is my question: I have big dataset where x1:.....x1000 or so. What I need to do is to work on 4 consequite variables to calculate a statistics and output. So far so good. There are more vector

malloc: vm_allocate(size=381886464) failed (error code=3)
Hi all, I am having memory allocation problem with my R 2.2.1 for Mac OS. The following is the error message that I get. I do not get this message if I break down the large dataset in to sub datasets. I think breaking up the dataset is not a sustainable solution in the long run. The data that I am analysing is essentially big, and it would be reasonable to do the analyis on the whole dataset

discriminant function analysis
My objective is to look at differences in two species of fish from morphometric measurements. My morphometric measurements are head length, eye diameter, snout length, and measurements from tail to each fin. I want to use discrimanant function analyis to determine if there are differences between the two species. I am familiar with R but new to discrimannt function analysis. I want to learn

InductiveRangeCheckElimination and BranchProbabilityInfo
Hi, extractRangeChecksFromBranch uses BranchProbabilityInfo to decide whether its worth trying the InductiveRangeCheckElimination transformation. For the following example: void split() { for (int i = 0; i < 100; ++i) { if (i < 99) do_something() else do_something_else() } } But the reported BPI is reported as 50/50 to whether do_something will be called, but we
