PATCH for Symbios/LSIlogic scsi and isolinux
Attached patch allows isolinux to boot from a CDROM attached to
a NCR/Symbios/LSIlogic SCSI controller (bios version 4.19).
It appears this bios can't read more than 1 sector at the time using
the ah=42h int13 call. The isolinux boot was failing early on when
4 sector are read. (bios returned error 0 !)
I'm not sure if the same 'getlinsec' routine is called upon later to
load

Poweredge 2850 with LSI Logic / Symbios Logic 53c1030 PCI-X Fusion-MPT Dual Ultra320 SCSI
Did anyone manage to have xen (3.0.1 stable) run on this config? (this
is on FC4 if it matters).
I''ve tried recompiling the xen0 kernel with the Fusion options from my
current kernel added, but it keeps removing some of them (maybe some
that didn''t exist yet in kernel 2.6.12), and it seems I end up without
the correct driver.
If someone has this running, I''d be

Best CentOS to install on *old* laptop?
I've found an old IBM OmniBook 800 and am curious whether I can get it
going again. (Currently it boots either Windows 95 or some
then-contemporary version of Slackware.) The CDROM is external (SCSI,
I think) and the machine won't boot from it, so it'd require a boot
floppy. Any suggestions? Or is CentOS entirely the wrong Linux to be
thinking about for this?

Problems installing 5.1 on a Tyan Thunder HEsl with a SCSI controller
Hi,
I'm trying to install 5.1 using the onboard LSI Symbios 53C1010, and I'm
running into some trouble. When the computer first boots, the SCSI BIOS
sees the three HDDs, but when I go to install, the installer hangs for a
while at inserting the sym53c8xx driver and if I go over to the screen
on F4 it shows that it is trying to scan the SCSI bus and is resetting
all of the IDs. Once that

KDE and mounting CD's / DVD's without noexec
Hi e,
I am normally use gnome and would do the following to make my CD / DVD
mount with exec
gnome-mount --write-settings --device /dev/sdc0 -o exec
What is the equivalent in KDE ? My initial research suggests that I
actually have to write a custom udev rule to achieve this.
This has led me as far as running
udevinfo -q path -n /dev/scd0
udevtest /block/sr0 (the output is below)

dvd rw not recognized
I installed Centos 5.2 on a brand new computer the other day. It has an Asus
DVD RW drive in it which I used to boot the netboot disk off of to install the
operating system so it found the dvd at that point.
Now k3b tells me that it can't find any drives.

Inquiry:Problem in mounting external cdrom
Dear All
I tried to mount an external cdrom on my CentOS 5 server but un-successful .
I attached the device to my USB port and then the followings have been added
to my /dev folder :
"cdrom -> scd0
cdrom-sr0 -> scd0
cdrw -> scd0
cdrw-sr0 -> scd0
cdwriter -> scd0
cdwriter-sr0 -> scd0"
To this end , I tried to mount it as the followings (but it didn't get
through) :

centos: infinite loop at boot using mptspi scsi device
hello, i am very new to centos and experienced some trouble yesterday
when installing centos 5 onto our workgroup server. Our Server is
equipped with an external RAID-array using an LSI Logic / Symbios Logic

Unfortunately the Server won't boot with the array connected, but gives

Problems with SATA DVD+-RW drive
I just got a Dell Dimension e521 (AMD 64 x2, nVidia MCP51 chipset) and
so far it has been fine. Today I tried to burn some CD-R and DVD-R
disks and have been able to do nothing but make coasters. The drive is
a TSST TS-H653a (Samsung OEM) and does have the current firmware.
Playing back data, audio, and video disks work just fine, but recording
is a different matter.
The drive shows up as

Boot USB:SATA:Partition4 from USBstik?
I want to be able to make a USBbootStik for my laptop, as I repeatedly
did for the now stolen PC.
I've got a copy of the required 2009, Slackware13 partition, saved to a
USBdisk. And I've located the 175-line: <make bootStik script> .
Of course just "chroot"ing Slak13, won't allow <make bootStik>.
But why can't someone here, provide the info to make an

syslinux / antique computers
Hi,
is there an easy way to circumvent the SYSLINUX novice protection thing?
intended users don't know about CTRL key to circumvent it.
I'm trying to make a generic bootdisk for systems of 8086 - Pentium4.
however the bootdisk is slow, so I'd like to use Syslinux + Memdisk to load a diskette image.
then the text displayed to user will be:

Pxelinux/memdisk with Universal TCP/IP Network Bootdisk floppy
Just for the record, I want to let the list know that I succeeded in
booting a modified Universal TCP/IP Network Bootdisk floppy from
http://members.iinet.net.au/~bdriver/bootdisk/
I started with a Win98 Bootfloppy from http://www.tobs.uku.co.uk.
Then I made a disk image from this, using dd.exe from cygwin.
Then I converted this disk image from 1.44MB to 2.88MB with winimage.
Then I copied

Where is the proper place to set the group ownership of devices under /dev/ in Centos3.
Dear list members,
I have a DVD writer /dev/scd0 which after reboot has the following ACL:
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 11, 0 Sep 9 2004 /dev/scd0
However I want to set this device group to "Domain Users" in order to
enable its members to burn DVDs.
If i invoke: #chgroup "Domain Users" /dev/scd0
the next reboot will override the group back to "disk".
