limit results to specific IDs
How would you go about searching only a specific set of IDs in acts_as_ferret? Should I just create a huge "or" query or is there a more stylish way? Thanks, Winton -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

stop words and /''s
Hi new version of ferret and acts as ferret have sorted out the scary glibc *** linked list pointer errors, thank god! New version are good but some searches are still not working. It is mostly the stop words ones. For example the "For Sale/Free/Swap" fails but works when "for" is stripped out. I have read all the recent posts regarding this issue and failed to get it to

Search scoping in acts_as_ferret
Hello, I am exploring acts_as_ferret, and the first question that pops to mind is scoping, i.e. how to restrict searches in various ways. For example, I have a Post model with title, content, and user_id as attributes, and I want users to be able to search through their own posts only. Normally, of course, I would do Post.find(:all, :conditions=>["user_id=?", current_user],

acts_as_ferret choking
Hi all, I''ve ran into a problem with Ferret on my rails app, and I don''t really have a clue about why. When running the unit tests, I get the following error output: > Exception raised: > Class: <NoMethodError> > Message: <"You have a nil object when you didn''t expect it!\nThe > error occured while evaluating nil.version"> >

NameError uninitialized constant Ferret::Index::FieldInfos
Hi Everyone, I''ve a RoR application. I am trying to build full text search capability into it. I installed Ferret. After that I installed the act_as_ferret plugin. I''ve also put the acts_as_ferret inside the <model>.rb file . I''m using the find_by_contents to get the search results. I''m getting the following error. I''ve no clue and I

acts_as_ferret for Ferret 0.10
Hi all, the current acts_as_ferret trunk is now ported to Ferret 0.10. Get it while it''s hot at svn://projects.jkraemer.net/acts_as_ferret/trunk/plugin Nearly everything works, besides this: - all queries are ORed (no way to tell the QueryParser to build AND queries by default) - more_like_this is broken I''m working with Dave to fix these things soon. The last Ferret 0.9.x

Ferret failing to rebuild_index - occasionally unable to del
I''m switching all my fulltext searching over to ferret using the acts_as_ferret plugin on windows (for development, will be deployed on linux). In my tests I have a setup method as follows to ensure the index is reset for each test: def setup Item.rebuild_index end This works fine for the initial few tests but then suddenly fails for the last few tests when it seems to be failing

acts_as_ferret transactions
acts_as_ferret does not handle transaction aborts properly. If a model is modified but something latter causes the transaction it was wrapped in to abort, the ferret index will not revert to the original record data. I have included a klunky patch to defer modifying the ferret index until after the current transaction commits. It would seem prudent to resolve this issue, though I

The ferret logs
Hi. We''ve had some problems with ferret not being able to load our classes (stack trace below for the curious). I nailed it down to a deployment issue, where an old instance of ferret drb was running. I don''t understand the details quite yet, but the result was the the old ferret was never shutdown during redeployment, and attempts were made to start up a new one. Anywho,

problems after gem update
Hi, I had ferret working wonderfully but i am regretting doing a gem update today. I had alot of trouble first installing it and was really happy to have it working. The upgrade was from 0.3.1 to 0.4.0. The problem is; in the rails console, >> @results = Book.find_by_contents("peter pan") => #<ActsAsFerret::SearchResults:0x487040c @total_hits=0, @results=[]> Its indexing

more_like_this not working?
Hi all, using ferret 0.10.13 and aaf trunk, i cannot get more_like_this to work. I read other posts on this forum related to that, but that did not solve it. I have a model Question with a field question_text. I do: ----------------------------------------------- >> q = Question.find(:first) >> q.more_like_this NoMethodError: You have a nil object when you didn''t expect

Disable search match on model id
Hi, Given a numerical search term I want to avoid matching the model id as this has no real world significance when returned in the results (in this instance). For example the user may enter ''13'' when looking for a product code. Presently they will also get back the product that has id 13. I have tried: acts_as_ferret :fields => {:id => { :index => :no },
