[newbie] failure to plot a RasterLayer with raster::plot or fields::image.plot

plots the converted output, apparently correctly. However attempts to

Changing ownership of a file or folder from within windows?
Hi everyone,
I have a Redhat 8 server running samba 2.2.8a and have configured samba
to use winbind so that I can control access to the file shares using
user and group accounts that have been set up in our windows NT domain.
This all works fine on the shares I set up from within the smb.conf
file. Windows 2000 users can access the shares just by logging into our
domain. But what I would

[newbie] how to find and combine geographic maps with particular features?
SUMMARY:
Specific problem: I'm regridding biomass-burning emissions from a
global/unprojected inventory to a regional projection (LCC over North
America). I need to have boundaries for Canada, Mexico, and US
(including US states), but also Caribbean and Atlantic nations
(notably the Bahamas). I would also like to add Canadian provinces and
Mexican states. How to put these together?

map axis on projected shapefiles
Hi,
I have overlayed 2 projected shapefiles using the "plot" function.
When I plot them the numbers next to the x-axis ticks are printed in
scientific format (e.g. -4e+05, -3e+05,...,), and the problem is these dont
match up to the projected point locations I also wish to overlay from my
dataset. For example, according to the x-axis ticks the prime meridian (0?)
is in totally the

ggplo2: fixed extent greater than data?
Hi everyone!
I'm digging into ggplot for some while now, I must say it's great! But - as
some others have posted before, and hadley knows very well himself - the
documentation is lacking some bits...
So I have to pose that question directly:
I'd like to produce a series of maps with different data on, but exactly the
same extent in each plot. Is there a way of switching the

Does anyone know what the units are for projected coordinates obtained
using mapproj's mapproject function with an Albers projection? Thanks for
any and all help!

max.print
Dear all.
I wanted to read in a 20,000 row X 60 column matrix (called "table") into R.
i did this:
>R
>table <- read.table("table", header=TRUE)
>table
it prints out the start of my table (~10000 rows by 7 columns) and then
this error:
[ reached getOption("max.print") -- omitted 5465 rows ]]

species projected in a ordiplot
Dear all,
I'm performing a detrended correspondence analysis on vascular plant
community data (296 species), and I have a question on the species scores
projected in the ordination diagram. When I run a ordiplot all species are
projected in the output graph, but I'd like to restrict the number of
species plotted in the final graph. Some species are so rare in the data,

converting lat-long coordinates to Albers Conical Equal Area coordinates

plot the location of weather stations or other point locations on the
maps. The data

[lattice] display a projected map on a layerplot
summary: I can display a lon-lat map on a lattice::layerplot, and I
can display a Lambert conformal conic (LCC) map on a spam::image, but
I can't display an LCC map on a lattice::layerplot. Example follows.
What am I doing wrong?
details:
I've been using `lattice` (via `rasterVis`) successfully to display
global atmospheric data, which works well enough (though I am

Map using projection
Hi list,
I have a real problem with plotting US state map. When I try to plot the
northern state, there will be some blank space in the top of graph (see case
1 example), and when I plot southern states, there will be a blank space in
the bottom of plot (see case 2). I spent almost 2 days to figure out a
solution, but could not. Would you help me if you know what the problem is?

plotting points to a map
Dear R users,
I have a city map in shape file (polygon). I also have some points that I
hope to plot them to the city map. The only information I have about those
points are their relative longitude and latitude to the city center by
miles. Is there a way that R can help me to do this? Thanks.

Ignorant lack of bliss : summarise table by column attribute
Having read the list posting guidelines I fear my first post is about to
break the rules. Apologies in advance.
We have been asked to produce some graphs of relative performance of 3
groups of people in relation to the trend of their previous performance.
I am neither a mathematician or a statistician, but wondered if R (which
I have been using as a desktop calculator!) and some knowledge from

date Axes and formats in lattice plots
All,
I have some data of animal movements that I'm plotting using xyplot() from lattice. I want to have the date (class POSIXct object) on the Y-axis and the animals longitude on X-axis.
Eg.
xyplot(date ~ longitude, groups = animal, data = my.data)
with data like:
animal ptt year month day lon date
