Labeling points with xYplot
Hello R-Users, I am trying to label points on an xYplot. I can label the points, but then I lose the error bars. I suspect that I should be using panel.xYplot rather than panel.xyplot, but that didn't work either... Can anybody help me out? Example code is below. First xYplot has error bars, second tries to label the points and the bars disappear. Thanks, John a=c(1:4)

plotting curve in xYplot -- using panel.curve
Hello, I am trying to plot a curve over points plotted with se's in xYplot (see example below). I can get Figure 1 below to plot the data with error. However, I keep getting a the error message "Error using packet 1 object "y" not found" Can anyone see what I am doing wrong? Thanks! John ------------------------------- a=0.002; b=31.7; c=0.51

add trend line to each group of data in: xyplot(y1+y2 ~ x | grp...
Although this should be trivial, I'm having a spot of trouble. I want to make a lattice plot of the format y1+y2 ~ x | grp but then fit a lm to each y variable and add an abline of those models in different colors. If the xyplot followed y~x|grp I would write a panel function as below, but I'm unsure of how to do that with y1 and y2 without reshaping the data before hand. Thoughts

glmmBUGS: logistic regression on proportional data
Hello, I am trying to run a logistic regression with random effects on proportional data in glmmBUGS. I am a newcomer to this package, and wondered if anyone could help me specify the model correctly. I am trying to specify the response variable, /yseed/, as # of successes out of total observations... but I suspect that given the error below, that is not correct. Also, Newsect should be a

Labeling lines in xyplot
Hello, I apologize in advance as this example seems really elementary. Below I have created a simple scatterplot with lines. I would like to label each line with the name of the village, instead of using a legend. Can someone please let me know how to do it. Thanks in advance -- John Pop=c(1406,1862,2333,2664,2685,2521,2726,0,0,0,0,214,289,365,900,952,1002,1205,1041,942,1004,

xyplot problem
Hi all, I am trying to produce some panels with dots in an X/Y plane where the diameter of the dots indicates a Z value (like e.g. earthquake maps where dot sizes indicate magnitudes and X/Y the location). This works fine with xyplot, e.g.: xyplot(1:3~1:3,cex=1:3,pch=16) However, when I do this with a panel variable, e.g.: x<-rep(1:3,5) y <- rep(1:3,5) sz <- rep(1:5,each=3) grp

xyplot, overlay two variables on one plot with group factors
All I want to overlay two variables on the same plot following their appropriate grouping. I have attempted to use subscripting in panel with panel.xyplot, but I can't get the grouping to follow into the panel...here is an example... dat<-data.frame( y= log(1:10), y2=10:19, x=1:10, grp = as.factor(1) ) dat2<-data.frame( y= log(10:19), y2= 20:29, x=1:10, grp = as.factor(c(2)) )

layers in xYplot of Hmisc
In the "filled bands" part of xYplot of the Hmisc package, is there a way to have multiple bands with multiple lines? or does it just allow one for now? So I had an example bit ago had a made up line and CI, now if I wanted to make a second line with a CI filled in can I put them on the same plot? x<-seq(1,10,1) y<-seq(1,10,1) ci<-y*.10 ciupper<-y+ci

Lattice xyplot multipanels
Derar Rxperts, I have a strange situation.. I see curly brackets around "strip.levels" in multipanel strips while using lattice::xyplot. .How do I get rid of the curly brackets? For some reason, I am not able to reproduce the problem using an example below... Any suggestions are highly welcome! Thanks, Santosh q <-

multiple lowess line in one plot
I'm using this code to plot a smoothed line. These two columns of data really represent 4 groups and I'd like to plot a separate line for each group but have them all in the same plot. The R-Docs for lowess do not seem to indicate some type of "GROUPS=var_name" option. What would be the syntax for this? plot(AWGT ~ lipid ) lines(lowess(lipid , AWGT, f=.8)) -- Dean

Filling symbols in xyplot
Hello, I am using xyplot and am happy with my graph, *except* that I cannot get the symbols to be filled. I tried using bg=c("red3","red","black","lightgrey")) in both the key and the xyplot function, that that was obviously not the answer. I would like the sybols to be filled with the same colors as the lines. Does anybody have an answer? In case

Second y-axis in xyplot (lattice) where y1 and y2 have different ranges
Hi all, I realize this is asking a lot of lattice, but I want to add a second y axis inside a xyplot and have y1 and y2 have different ranges. Given dat below, I can add a second y axis by overlaying a new plot with par(new=T) and label axis 4 with standard graphics. I've seen an example for doing something similar in xyplot even though Deepayan has indicated that lattice isn't the right

lattice::xyplot() with one factor for points and another for lines
Hi: In lattice, how does one handle separate graphical behavior for two different factors? In the xyplot below, the objective is to use the levels of one factor to distinguish corresponding shapes and colors, and the levels of the other factor to perform level-wise loess smooths. # Illustrative data: d <- data.frame(time = rep(1:8, each = 6), val = rnorm(48), gp1 =

xYplot customizing y-axis scaling
Dear list, using the packages Hmisc and lattice i produced some nice xYplots. However, since the data range of the conditioning variable is very big, i need to define more than one y-scale for the plot (in some panels you just see a flat line of data points very close to the x-axis), e.g. different y-axis scales for the different rows of the plot. Is there a way to do so? Thanks, Henning

Jitter in xYplot?
Hello, The simple example below plots three species by year and site. However, I would like the points to occur in groups horizontally, rather than on top of each other. I thought jitter might work, but haven't been successful in getting it to do what I want. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. John wt=rnorm(27,5,0.6) yr=rep(c(2000,2001,2002),each=3)

xyplot() does not plot legends with "relation=free" scales
Hi all, I have this problem with lattice that xyplot() won't draw some of my axis labels if the type (i.e. the relation argument) of scales is set as free. For example, in the plot below, I would want it to also show: 1. the labels E1,...E6 below the 10th panel (i.e. 3rd row, 2 col)....just as it is now done below the 12th panel.... 2. as well as the labels (2,4,6,8) on the top of panels 1

Custom axis function in lattice:::xyplot
Dear List, I have been writing a Lattice function to draw what we call stratigraphic diagrams, these are diagrams with a panel for each species showing a time series of abundance, but drawn vertically to represent time passing from bottom of plot towards to top. I am most of the way there with this now, but I want to do away with the strip on each panel and instead draw a custom top axis with a

Removing characters and periods from character strings
Hello R-users, I have code that gives me the important variables from an analysis. I need to input these variables into a different analysis. To do this, I need to modify them slightly... 1) remove all numbers at the end of the variables, 2) remove all periods. I tried to do it with the awkward code below. It works to remove all the numbers, but when I try to remove the period everything

superpose.polygon, panel.polygon and their colors
Dear R-helpers, the problem I'm facing today is to convince lattice to paint some areas in gray. The areas I would like to have in gray, are confidence bands I've googled around in the mailing list archives and eventually find some clues. This link is my starting point http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/e2/help/07/04/15595.html I'm reproducing here the code for your convenience est

Using Lattice, LatticeExtra - Hide right and top axes in multipanel plots
Dear Rxperts, How do I hide the top and right axes in multiple panel plots? A couple of examples are provided below.. Would highly appreciate appreciate your assistance.. #Example 1 library(latticeExtra) xyplot((1:200)/20 ~ (1:200)/20, type = c("p", "g"), scales = list(x = list(log = 2,alternating=0), y = list(log = 10,alternating=0)), xscale.components =
