Substituting inside expression
I am having following problem: I?m constructing model for calculation of area of triangle. I know sides a, b, and gamma angle. I wish to calculate the area using heron?s formula: S <- sqrt(s*(s-a)*(s-b)*(s-c)) where s <- (a+b+c)/2 and c is calculated using law of cosines: c <- sqrt(a^2 + b^2 -2*a*b*cos(gamma)) since i am calculating a regression model, i need derivation of this

Incorrectness of mean()
I have found following problem: I have a vector: > a <- c(1.04,1.04,1.05,1.04,1.04) I want a mean of this vector: > mean(a) [1] 1.042 which is correct, but: > mean(1.04,1.04,1.05,1.04,1.04) [1] 1.04 gives an incorrect value. how is this possible? thanks, zbynek -- View this message in context: http://r.789695.n4.nabble.com/Incorrectness-of-mean-tp3327701p3327701.html Sent from the R

How to use lm() output for systemfit() 'Seemingly unrelated regression'
I am having problem using output of lm() function for further analysing using systemfit package. Basicaly, the problem s following - I generate several formulas using lm() > fo1 <- lm(r98[,2] ~ f98[,1] + f98[,2] + ... + f98[,43]) > fo2 <- lm(r98[,1] ~ f98[,1] + f98[,2] + ... + f98[,43]) and than I want to estimate a general model using package systemfit. > fitsur <-

How to optimize function parameters?
Hi, I have a dataset and I want to fit a function to it. The function is variogram model (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variogram) The variogram model is defined by three parameters and I want them to be automatically optimized for real time data. I tried to use gafit {gafit} for this, but there are some data configuration, where optimal results given by gafit() are negative, which is not correct

Plot problems: xlim
Hi, Still fresh in R, tried to figure this out, now on my second day running with no luck (and a pile of hair on my desk) so I have thrown in the towel and would like to ask for some help. Here is what I am trying to do. I am trying to plot a distribution, I have 99 points, bound in the range xlim.min: -0.0173 xlim.max: 0.02103 However, I have a value outside this range (0.2454959) which I

winbind - frequent high CPU utilization
Hi. I use winbind + squid on Debian Buster to authenticate users + authorize them based on groups they are in. It all works, well, good, but winbind's CPU utilization peaks can reach up to 100%. The same solution ran OK on Debian Jessie with up to 20% CPU utilization at most. The configuration of Buster must have been updated based on the samba version leap/shift compared to Jessie. On

Hello, 1) Thanks - shorewall save me a lot of time! 2) I try - exactly: I must :-) - configure a VPN server behind 2 NATs. My situation: RoadWarior - INet - ISP Router (NAT+PortForwarding) - Inetranal Router (running Shorewal, NAT+PortForwarding) - Inetranl VPN Server If RoadWariror try to connect Internal VPN Server then connection failed with "GRE: Bad check chcksum from pppd"

R-alpha: Logarithmic scales
Here are another three problems with logarithmic scales: 1) segments() does not work with logarithmic scales. I suggest to change lines 962-973 in "plot.c": for (i = 0; i < n; i++) { if (FINITE(xt(x0[i%nx0])) && FINITE(yt(y0[i%ny0])) && FINITE(xt(x1[i%nx1])) && FINITE(yt(y1[i%ny1]))) { GP->col = INTEGER(col)[i % ncol];

problem installing packages from source on win2k
Dear R-helpers, I'm having trouble compiling R packages from source on Win2K. I installed R 1.7.1beta [1] on my win2k machine [2], downloaded the fields package as source [3] and tried but failed to install the package [4]. I get the same problem with other packages, so it doesn't appear to be limited to fields. Installation of precompiled packages seems to work fine. I've been

ctree
Hello, I plotted a nice tree with "ctree" . It shows 3 nodes with the prediction of my 2 groups. (see picture) Unfortunately I need a larger scale to read the exact prediction of my groups to get the specificity and sensitivity. I tried to change the scale with "axis" but it didn't work, my guess because it's not a normal graph with x and y axis. Has someone an idea

glusterfs on 32 bit - experiences?
I was wondering about general stability of glusterfs on 32 bit x86 Linux. I have it running without problems on some lightly used 32 bit systems, but this scares me a bit if I decided to use it in production[1]: While the 3.x versions of Gluster will compile on 32bit systems we do not QA or test on 32-bit systems. We strongly suggest you do NOT run Gluster in a 32-bit environment. I was

problem installing fields package 3.5 on R 1.8.1 on linux
I am returning to using R after a little time away. Saw some great new functions in the fields package and decided to upgrade. Everything seems to go fine until I tried to actually load the package, when I get an error: >library(fields) Error in parse(file, n, text, prompt) : syntax error on line 227 And (of course) I am unable to access any of the functions in the fields package. mob(party) formula question
I try tu use mob() with my data.frame ('data.frame': 288 obs. of 81 variables; factors, numerics and ordered factors) My response is a binary variable and I should use for modelling a logistic regression (family=binomial). I read in the "MOB" Vignette that I could use a formula like this if I would like to have only partitioning variables apart from the response.

Missing values in argument of .Fortran.
I wish to pass a vector ``y'', some of whose entries are NAs to a fortran subroutine which I am dynamically loading and calling by means of .Fortran(). The subroutine runs through the vector entry by entry; obviously I want to have it do one thing if y[i] is present and a different thing if it is missing. The way I am thinking of proceeding is along the xlines of: ymiss <- is.na(y)

I'm deeply impressed by the work you have done in the coding and decoding of speech signal.But when using speex,I encoutered a bug,that is when in 32K mode,the window size is still 200 samples,but not 400 samples,the bug will bring the problem of

Why 95% "quantile" empty in R or why 95% "quantile" = 1 with data values between 0 and 1?
I am calling quantiles as follows. I don't understand why sometimes the columns (data values) above 95% are returned as "NULL"!! When I drop the percentile down to 92%, I see colums appearing. Why would any quantile be empty? I see sometimes that 95% percentile is being chosen as "1" for my data between 0 and 1, where obviously there's no column value equal to 1. But
