Error in calcCurveGrob(x, x$debug) : End points must not be identical
Hi All... I haven?t found mention of this error anywhere. I'm trying to
draw spline curves using grid graphics. Most of the time, I have no
problems, but I have some data sets that give the error in the subject line.
I'm not sure which end points are identical, but the end points passed to
the function are definitely not identical.
Any assistance appreciated! Bryan

Grid newbie: aligning & scaling viewports
Oh Knowledgeable Ones:
I'm working on a project using grid graphics (for the first time). A toy
example is given below, run it simply with >foobar() I am wondering why the
pink dot and concentric circles are not centered on the 3-color axis system.
Further, I feel like the concentric circles don't have the intended radius -
if my math is right, the outmost circle should touch the

Package build/check OK, install looking for irrelevant function
Hello R Users:
I have 3 packages that I authored and they build and check just fine locally. However, when I try to install the local source packages (from the .tar.gz), I get the following message:

R and Matlab
Dear Group,
I am looking for ways to use R and Matlab. Doing the data transformations in
R and using the data in Matlab to analyze with some pre-defined scripts.
Any good ways to transfer the data into matlab in its most recent version?
I tried using R.matlab but the writeMat output is not readable by Matlab.
I just need to output a data.frame and read it as is into matlab where I can

vcovHC and arima() output
Dear all,
how can I use vcovHC() to get robust/corrected standard errors from an
arima() output?
I ran an arima model with AR(1) and got the estimate, se, zvalue and
p-value using coeftest(arima.output).
However, I cannot use vcovHC(arima.output) to get corrected standard
errors. It seems vcovHC works only with lm and plm objects?
Is there another way I can get robust/corrected

Rectangle height in lattice xyplot key
Dear All
I have a problem with the height of the boxes in the key in the following.
(The text is over 2 lines to accentuate the problem of no space
between the rectangles.)
Is there an easy way to put a space between the rectangles; size
controls the width but there appears to be nothing for the height?

nanosleep() replacement
I put together a nanosleep() for systems without it.
Please review/test before I commit.
It sems to make UnixWare and Open Server 5 happy.
My SCO Open Server 3 box broke so I can't test it there.

R crash
Dear users,
By running the script below, R crashes systematically at the last
command, namely dev.off(), on Windows 7, but not on Windows XP.
I therefore don't provide a reproducible example and do not really
extract the relevant parts of the script because it has most likely
nothing to do with the script itself. I can do it though if you think it
might be relevant.

How to infer default width and height for a device?
Hi.
GENERAL:
Is there a general method for inferring default device settings,
particularly 'width' and 'height', that works for all devices? AFAIK,
the answer is no, but there might be functions out there that I don't
know of.
POSTSCRIPT SPECIFIC:
If not, I'm considering implementing such a method myself. Is it
possible for R to infer the default 'width' and

boot with strata: strata argument ignored?
Hello All. I must be missing the really obvious here:
mm <- function(d, i) median(d[i])
b1 <- boot(gravity$g, mm, R = 1000)
b1
b2 <- boot(gravity$g, mm, R = 1000, strata = gravity$series)
b2
Both b1 and b2 seem to have done (almost) the same thing, but it looks like
the strata argument in b2 has been ignored. However, str(b1) vs str(b2)
does show that the strata have been noted

Hi
rgl crashes my R session, when resizing the rgl graphic window.
I am using Ubuntu Maversick, with dual monitor setup. If I disconnect

enlarge it to much.
I assume that the problem has to do with allocated graphic memory in the
kernel, but why is R crashing

Passing data to aov
Hello Again Gurus and Lurkers:
I?m trying to build a very user-friendly function which does aov without
having the user type in a formula (which would be tedious in this case).
The idea is to take the response from a PCA score matrix, and the factors
from a list. A simple example is the function given below, along with test
data and a sample call to the function.
I'm certainly having

What is mclust up to? Different clusters found if x and y interchanged
Hello All...
I gave a task to my students that involved using mclust to look for clusters
in some bivariate data of isotopes vs various mining locations. They
discovered something I didn?t expect; the data (called tur) is appended
below.
p <- qplot(x = dD, y = dCu65, data = tur, color = mine)
print(p) # simple bivariate plot of the data; looks fine
mod1 <- Mclust(tur[,2:3])

Gathering different data types for aov etc
Hello List Folks. I?m trying to do manova using a function which assembles
the response (LHS) and factors (RHS) from different sources. When I do so,
the model routines complain that I'm passing a list for the RHS when I don't
think I am.
Here's a toy example:
r <- matrix(rnorm(30), ncol = 3) # toy data
td <- list(d = rnorm(10),

Layout of mulitpage conditioned lattice plots
Dear latticists,
I would like to spread a lattice conditioned plot over multiple pages,
keeping the same layout as if I had only one page as shown in the code
below.
My workaround is to divide the dataframe into subset that fit on one page,
but the code is ugly.
Is there a build-in way to achieve this?
